Kin San Kichi has been one of the very first Japanese restaurants I have been visiting ever since I could remember, or at least a Japanese restaurant with the most authentic good-tasting Japanese restaurant that my family and I have been very loyal to ever since our first visit. This japanese restaurant is located in one of the small shop lots in Sri Hartmas among tons of Korean restaurants and supemarkets. Kin San Kichi offers a very nice and oriental dining atmosphere. Kin San Kichi gives off a very true Japanese restaurant vibe, small and cramped but yet spacious at the same time. Every piece of furniture there is placed tightly together avoiding any waste of space but definitely does NOT leave you with an unpleasant dining experience. Like most Japanese restaurants in Japan, Kin San Kichi allows customers a slight view of the kitchen where you can see the chefs busy cooking up your meal at the back of the restaurant. For most malaysians, yes, the toilets here are very clean. Like I said earlier Kin San Kichi who offers one of the most authentic Japanese food in town (of those that I know), serves the one of the BEST cold sobas in town. Their cold soba is definitely affordable where if we're talking about you get what you pay for. Here's a tip, you MUST crack the Pigeon egg into your broth and add a tiny bit of wasabi. The next best dish that I adore from this restaurant is their sashimi, truth be told, I first started to learn how to eat sashimi in this very restaurant! Their sashimi set comes with a sashimi platter with salmon, tuna, butterfish, cuttle fish and other stuff, each a few slices and a bowl of aromatic Japanese calrose rice. Again, this sashimi set is one of the cheapest and most fresh sashimi sets I've ever tasted. When visiting kin San Kichi, it's like landing your foot in Japan for a meal and leaving after that. And, let us not forget about desserts, like what Japan is famous for, matcha, their matcha (green tea) ice cream here is definitely BOMB! It's not just it's wonderful creamy and icey texture but also the wonderful strong green tea taste unlike cheaper green tea ice creams that have barely any green tea taste. As for drinks, if you are not underage, then go ahead and try their sake. For those underage, you can stick with the good old Japanese green tea. All in all, I definitely recommend all Japanese food lovers to drop by this awesome and affordable Japanese restaurant. continue reading

I had my belated birthday treat by my best friend, Stephanie who is also my schoolmate. We were searching for a suitable place with fantastic ambience but not too expensive as I do not want to spend her money too much. It was my first time coming to this area of Desa Sri Hartamas and stumbled upon many restaurants here. We took a drive around the area to survey to see which restaurant looks interesting and went back to the first one we saw which is this, especially since there were many patrons here including 2 Westerners. The place was so crowded with people on a Sunday night that we had to wait for a table but that was very fast as we took time to choose our food.We ordered the D Bento (RM 31.50) which consists of the freshest salmon sashimi ever, grilled salmon, stir-fried thinly sliced beef, chawanmushi, miso soup, rice and also two pieces of honeydew. The price is more worth it than Sushi King or Sakae Sushi especially since it came together with 2 pieces of salmon cooked in different styles and also beef. The grilled salmon is so succulent and juicy where each bite was a bite in fish heaven. According to the owner, fresh salmon will be juicy and not hard. I am very particular about grilled salmon wherein most of what I have tried are very hard and not juicy enough. The chawanmushi is very smooth. The salmon sashimi is so fresh, thick and tasty. The owner said the freshness of the seafood and sashimi draws many loyal customers here and they need not do any promotion. We also ordered the BBQ Lamb Tenderloin (RM 23.50) and also the BBQ Cuttlefish (RM 19.50) which were quite cheap compared to Korean BBQ. It is my first time trying Japanese BBQ and my friend said usually it is Korean restaurants which has BBQ. The cuttlefish was so thick and fresh and one only needs to BBQ it a while and it would be ready for eating and not even taste rubbery at all. The tenderloin is thinly sliced and immediately cooks when placed in the fireplace. We ended the dinner with a matcha homemade ice-cream (RM 5) for Stephanie and a black sesame ice-cream (RM 6.90) for me. I felt that the matcha is too creamy and the green tea taste is not strong enough whereas the black sesame is totally flavourful and I loved it so much. We had both ice-creams with red bean which was amazing as  it did not come in bean shaped as I hate beans but came in a dry paste. We are definitely coming back with our respective families to try the many varieties of food here. The menu is quite thick for a Japanese restaurant that offers sushi, sashimi, sukiyaki, bento, Rice Sets, teppanyaki, BBQ, teishoku etc.  continue reading
