I was extremely happy to know that Din Tai Fung has opened a new outlet in 1 Utama Shopping Mall, now I don’t have to travel all the way to Midvalley to have their delicious "Xiao Long Bao". I planned to have dinner at Din Tai Fung when I went to service my phone. Din Tai Fung is located at ground Floor, 1 Utama Shopping Centre (Next To Madam Kwan). We were welcomed by the staff at the entrance before seating us in the 4pax table. You have to write your own order in the order sheet and once your done, call the staff. He will repeat your order again to check before passing it to the kitchen. Systematic ordering system which was I am quite impressed with. A couple of people occupied the restaurant when we arrived around 7.15pm but it was filling up after that. The ambiance of the restaurant was simple. We ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp Dumpling, Spicy Vegetable Pork, Golden Custard Bun, Cha Jiang Noodle and Red Bean Xiao Long Bao.Pork Xiao Long Bao was simply delicious but if you are looking for Xiao Long Bao with more meat compared to the soup then this is definitely not our cup of tea. It just melted in my mouth. It has generous amount of soup compare to some other restaurant. Pork Xiao Long Bao @ RM 19.62 Shrimp Dumpling was tasty and flavorful. Shrimp Dumpling @ RM 7.16Delicious vegetable and pork dumpling with a nice spicy kick. Spicy Vegetable and Pork @ RM 6.50Cha Jiang Noodle was tasty but I feel the portion was rather small for the price we paid especially for guys. I think they need 2 bowls to make them feel full and my boyfriend felt hungry within an hour. Cha Jiang Noodle @ RM 17.08The molten custard oozes out from the bun once you peel them apart. Yummy!! Golden Custard Bun @ RM 2.83Red Xiao Long Bao is my favorite Xiao Long Bao now. It was so yummy and cute. Red Bean Xiao Long Bao @ RM 4.52It was a good dinner with my boyfriend and sister. Good service and nice foods. Sure drop by again for their Xiao Long Bao and Dumplings. It is a best place to have something light for me.Service Charge : Nil GST : 6%Din Tai Fung Lot G343A, Ground Floor 1 Utama Shopping Centre 47800 Petaling Jaya Tel : 03- 7732 0027/ Fax: 03- 7726 3292 continue reading

The last time I came to Din Tai Fung was at Mid Valley during my university days with my parents. I last remembered the food to be not that special and not having so many varieties. Anyway, since my friend spoke highly of this Din Tai Fung in 1 Utama and that every time he comes here, he never fails to dine here, I thought there was no harm giving this a try. Din Tai Fung is well known for Xiao Long Bao so obviously that was the first dish ordered. We ordered the Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao (3 pieces for RM 9.33 after GST) which was quite tasty. The juice that exuded out was not as fiery hot as most xiao long bao. But most importantly though they are small, the skin is soft enough. The Spicy Assorted Wantan (RM 13.21 for 6 pcs) were the best wantan I have ever eaten. I am not a fan of the ubiquitious wantan we eat with wantan mee but I definitely like this as the handmade wantan are made in very silky skin and have the filling full to the brim of the spinach and also shrimps.  The Plain Vegetable La Mian Soup (RM 9.34) was very delicious. The soup is clear and did not have a drop of oil, which is a refreshing change from the unhealthy soup noodles outside that is full of bubbles, indicating oil traces. There are a few Xiao Pai Chai too. Seaweed and beancurd and also glass noodles in vinegar dressing (RM 7.64) came in a small portion, smaller than I imagined. There is no overload of vinegar to the extend that the whole dish taste like vinegar only. The seaweed and vinegar were finely chopped to make it pleasing for the eyes and tastebud. I have finished every single strand of seaweed. It goes well with plain La Mian. We were supposed to order wine steamed chicken or spicy sichuan chicken but did not do so because the chicken would be served cold. The beverage is the most expensive, even more expensive than price of food. In fact, the Chrysanthemum Pu Er tea, at RM 16.51, was even more expensive than the rest of my food. I think the lesson learnt is to not order any drinks if you want your bill to be worthwhile.  continue reading
