Dancing Fish or Ikan Goreng Joget is one of the signature dish from Little Jakarta Waroeng, Pearl Point Shopping Mall. They use fresh tilapia fish deep-fried until golden brown and creatively display the fish beside the white rice and served with onion crackers, acar, soto soup, Indonesian sweet black sauce and sambal terasi. The fish served was a medium size, mild salty and very crispy, can even eats up the fish fin and its small bones. The flower-shaped onion crackers was crispy, the acar was sourish and the soto soup was quite nice, but slightly salty. Sambal terasi is the Indonesian style of chili sauce which is extremely hot. continue reading

A friend recommended this place to me stating the food here taste very Indonesian. So decided to try what they have, I went to this shop. The way they present the food reminds me of how they serve it in Medan already, although its suppose to be serving Jakarta food.I ordered the signature crispy ikan joget and when it was served, I was pleasantly surprised! The fish looked like it was still alive! It was in a 'swimming/dancing' position and looking at you with it's eyes. Yea, I guess that's how it got the name ikan joget right? Taste wise, it was quite good. Although the whole thing was a bit dry, it was crunchy and goes well with rice and the slightly spicy/sourish vege. I was also given a small plate of sweet black sauce to go with the fish. It left me wanting for more fish in the end because the meat was a bit little for me. Luckily I was provided with some soup soto to make it less dry. The soup was not too bad. A bit thirsty afterwards though. continue reading
