Steamboat is always my all time favourite whenever the weather is chilly or if it rains. Being in Malaysia, that would mean 2-4 times a month all through the year. So that makes me quite a frequent steamboat-er. In Hong Kong, steamboats are known as hot pot instead of steamboat and people rarely calls it hot pot here. It is actually rather strange cause steamboat is actually a boat powered by steam engine. There are many ways to eat this, some like to dip and cook the raw ingredients as they eat and that of course takes a longer time. Some likes to throw everything into the pot and have everything cook all at one time.I like the first, but considering the bacteria and that goes into our stomach from undercooked ingredients (thanks to my obsession for food microbiology), I would go with the later. There are add on in the menu and I love this particular ingredient called the QQ seafood tofu. I have yet to find this ingredient in other places. It makes a good steamboat meal because the ingredients are always fresh and the chili sauce is definitely quite some impression. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…it’s HOT!Lastly, the awesome finish with ice umbra juice to cool the heat and temperature from the pot of boiling soup. continue reading

continue reading

If talk about steamboat, most people must recognize this chain outlets. They said they are originally from pulau ketam which is famous for fresh seafood. But this time I would like to concentrate to talk about the chilli they have here. Everytime I come here, I will definitely request for a personal bowl of chilli. Their chilli is quite spicy and I would say very spicy. But it worth everything. You can buy a whole bottle of chilli back too. continue reading

The standard set consists of yam, dumpling, fish balls, clams, fish slices, fu chuk, beancurd, tao fu pok, and loads of vegetables. The ingredients were stacked till mountain high. The yam slices and dumplings were nice. The fish balls, clams and prawns were fresh. Ho Ho only offer one soup base – clear soup. The soup base was so addictive, we kept on drinking non-stop. It has the essence of the ingredients boiled.Another thing worth mentioning is the chilli. Ho Ho chilli does not taste like the typical chicken rice chilli, it has their own unique flavour. It was not super spicy and it has some tangerine taste in it. continue reading
