the first time i tried Lan Je's famous spicy fish was in their Damansara Branch, but this time i headed to their Subang branch instead since it was closer. originated from Rawang initially, Lan Je Steamed Fish has opened their second and third branches in subang and damansara respectively, and have now opened at Kota Kemuning too, which is even closer to me having been famous for their spicy, mouth-watering fish, i ordered one for myself too as most people who visit have one whole fish for themselves too. pricing at RM14-18 according to their seasonal fish size, there is only one style of cooking this fish, cooked with a generous amount of toppings with dashes of soy sauce, chili bean paste sauce, diced garlic, shredded ginger, chili padi, all which enhances the natural flavor of the steamed tilapia fish. in Lan Je, you can decide the range of spiciness according to how well you can take spicy food - i choosed mild spicy for the first time to play it safe but this time i ordered the usual spicy, which still got my ears ringing and eyes watering! despite so, all the seasoning and flavorful toppings made the fish sweet, as it was steamed well with just the right amount of soya sauce and soft fish flesh meat. continue reading

I tried Lan Je once many years ago in Rawang, and one day a client brought me to this restaurant for lunch, in which I did not know they had a branch here all this while. As per their signature tagline of 1 fish per person, that was what I and my clients ordered. We have a choice of 3 sizes (Small, Medium & Large). The fish also comes with 3 different levels of spiciness, ranging from not spicy, normal and extra spicy. The fish took around 30 minutes to arrive, which is as expected due to the huge crowd and the preparation time. The fish was very fresh, as I couldn't taste any smelly fishy taste. Its flakes of meat was very smooth, and it was steamed perfectly. Its ginger and soya sauce was amazing, coupled with the white rice and smooth fish, it was the perfect lunch. continue reading

Lan Je has outlets in Subang (the one we visited), Rawang, Balakong, Kota Damansara, Desa Aman Puri and Taman Lensen. Cuttlefish with celery, alongside gravy-soaked tofu, both respectable enough to order. Skip the non-seafood snacks though: the sui kow is OK but unmemorable, while the sweet-sour chicken balls are a little too starchy. Lan Je is a no-pork eatery. Wrapping up this comprehensive look at Lan Je's menu with greens, from kangkung with garlic and sweet potato leaves with bean curd sauce to bitter gourd with eggs and four-angled beans with belacan. continue reading

Restaurant Lan Je in USJ is one of the few places to visit for lunch when I am back in the office. It is renowned for its steamed tilapia fish, which is famous for its 1 person 1 fish concept. The fish isn't very big, and when dining as a group, we will usually will go for a steamed fish each, together with a plate of fried vegetables.Be warned to visit this restaurant earlier during lunch or be prepared to wait for a table and food to arrive, as it can get quite packed. You can order the fish to be cooked in 3 levels of spiciness, which is not spicy, medium and added chilli. As mentioned earlier, it may take some time for the dish to arrive, but it is all worth it. For a decent price of RM15 per pax, it is not too expensive considering you are getting a fish for yourself. The fish is steamed to perfection, never too raw and never overcooked. The texture is smooth with a layer of chopped garlic and ginger. continue reading
