Mado might thaw the hearts of city dwellers seeking cold comfort amid the afternoon heat and others intrigued by this cafe's inimitable inventory of ice cream."Dondurma" is Mado's specialty _ ice cream originating from the Turkish region of Maras, made of goat's milk and "salep," a flour obtained from the tuber of mountainside orchids. Flavors include pumpkin, fig, persimmon and pomegranate, all supposedly natural, formed with real fruits and plants. Might be an acquired taste, far less saccharine than most ice cream, with a fascinatingly chewy-sticky texture that's worth trying at least once. Handmade baklava and sarma pastries, showered with chopped walnuts and honeyed and sugared to a system-shocking extent, accompanied by ice cream slices known as "kesme," a denser version of dondurma that some recommend eating with forks and knives. Complimentary kitchen-made lemonade at the end of the meal, gently tangy. Service is speedy and smothered in smiles. Note though that tables are limited. continue reading

When I was in India some years ago, I had tried fig flavoured gelato and I loved it. After coming back to Malaysia, I couldn't find fig flavoured anything. Apparently, it's not a popular flavour here. When Mado opened and offered fig flavoured ice cream, I was excited. I wouldn't say it's fig "flavoured", but really very much "fig ice cream", as in, there was a high proportion of actual figs in the ice cream!Fig fiber abundant and flavours were rich and sweet (sort of like dates, except lighter and a little more honey-like). The ice cream was very milky and sweet (which is typical of goat's milk, which they use in their ice creams).Perhaps the best ice cream I've ever had; and certainly not the cheapest. continue reading

Where else serve fig ice cream besides Mado? As far as I know of, Mado is the only one. Fig is a type of fruits common in the middle east region. The texture of ice cream was heavenly; creamy and sticky. The stickiness is due to the process of "beating" or "training" the ice cream paste, which requires a man with great strength to do so. We were standing at the front of Mado and looked at the staff fiddling with a dough, which was happened to be the ice cream! Gosh, this was a strong man's job! Fig flavour was very sweet and intense. Good for sweet tooth like me. You could see and taste the fiber in the ice cream as well. The use of goat milk further enhanced the intensity of sweetness, which I find it appetizing continue reading

A new dessert store in town, all the way from Turkey!Located just beside Sg Wang.various flavor of turkish ice cream, all made from goat milk! Cay Tea, traditional tea from Turkey. Not bad. best if you are having sweet ice cream, drink this the mild up the sweetness in your mouth.four scoops. we had honey (super sweet), strawberry (a bit sour but still sweet), hazelnut and the original goat milk vanilla flavor. I love the original one the most!ice cream on plate, have to eat it with fork and knife! it won't melt fast so you can slowly enjoy it. the pastry beside are traditional turkish dessert pasrty, love the baklavas (the puff thing) the most! the dolama (green sausage made from Pistachio) is too sweet for me.the Pistachio ice cream slice are very special, I do not know how to describe the taste but it is definitely something different. However, I must say I love the original flavor the most!other than those very very sweet ice cream, Mado Cafe also serve some sweet dessert like waffles and parfaits, also some turkish dishes. The price are on high range though.http://mystyl3mylif3.blogspot.com/2012/04/bukit-bintang-mado-cafe-from-turkish.html continue reading
