Last weekend, we have decided to give this new restaurant in Kuchai Avenue a try. Most of the shop at Kuchai Avenue is still vacant but this restaurant is bustling with peoples.Their menu is very reasonably priced. Their chu cheung fun is overloaded with char siew wrapped in really thin noodle. For Char Siew lover, you must be loving in this dish. Overall, their dim sum is quite good and I would definately come back again. continue reading

Honestly, I have to admit that there are way too many dim sum restaurants around Kuchai Lama area. But most of them taste more or less the same, with similar prices too. That day I was impressed with the 'golden sand' bun, which is filled with salted egg and pumpkin paste.Immediately after I first bite it, the pumpkin lava oozes out of the steamed bun. The salted egg is very rich here. Even when the bun is tasteless, I can feel the tastiness from just the paste alone! Best served while piping hot! continue reading

I first saw this place on Ho Chiak, a local television programme that introduces food around town. Some are hits and some misses. But when I came to this place the first time around, I was appreciative of the decor and the interior. Tastefully yet boldly splashed in red, toned down by the warm yellow lights, green plants dotted the areas and they opened up enough of the building for it to be airy. The food is also quite fresh and this in itself exceeded my expectations of a neighbourhood dim sum place. The Siu Mai was fresh with crunchy shrimp and pork feeling, the skin not too thick, the red roe nicely balancing out the taste. The Yu Mai were nice and springy, not too bland. The Gou Bu Li Bun were filled with a tastefully marinated pork filling, not quite as "bad" as the name suggests! The Mango and Shrimp were artfully wrapped in filigreed pastry. This had to be eaten when it's hot and crunchy otherwise the oil just spoils the taste of the wrapping, soaking it in oil. The Kwai Fa Gou is a traditional dessert of the palaces in China. There are not many places who serve this. Delightfully refreshing, it was jelly like and the fragrance of the flowers permeated my nostrils. The taste of this jelly was not cloyingly, artificially sweet like some but really gave me such a nice perk-me-up! I am quite picky when it comes to dim sum. And I have been back quite a number of times since my first time there. There are some items I MUST order when I go.The Scallop and Shrimp Dumplings, the Wo Tip and Salad Prawns, absolutely a delight when fresh! I really enjoy the sipping of tea and picking up the delightful little morsels with chopsticks here. continue reading
