Moist beancurd skin, filled with sushi vinegar rice and topped with mashed eggs. the tofu-filled pouch is actually quite small in size compared to sushi king. but their mashed eggs tasted very good, and was very evident in flavor. i could taste the starchy potato flavors in the sushi as well. mixed with the sweet sushi rice, it makes a very good snack to be eaten.

The Ocean Idako Maki in Sakae Sushi is pretty good. I wasn't about to order it, but apparently there is a weekly promotion which includes this dish to be priced at RM1 only. Since it was very worth the money, we decided to order, even though we were quite stuffed already. The dish came in a jiffy, and it was quite pleasing to the eyes. The difference between Ikura Chawanmushi and the Sakae Chawanmushi is that the former has a spoonful of salmon roe as part of the topping together with some Japanese mushrooms. The egg is nicely steamed, soft and wobbly. There are juicy chicken bits, a gingko nut and a piece of crabstick all hidden in the delectable steamed egg. One cup of the chawanmushi can be quite filling, so it is recommended to share.

The honey ebi sakura in Sakae Sushi looks pretty interesting when it passed us by on the conveyor belt, hence the next plate of it was plucked out and sampled. The seaweed wrapped around the sushi rice was crunchy and fresh, indicating that it had just been made. The filling, honey ebi sakura, is essentially tiny little prawns with its shell still intact. Wifey and I were quite intrigued by the Hokkigai Gold from the menu, hence we decided to order some to try. The rice is fluffy as usual, with a bit of vinegar taste. The Hokkigai is apparently surf clam, which is lightly boiled until the tip turns reddish in colour. The yellowish meat looks a bit bubbly, and it also had the crunchy texture of bubbles. Quite interesting, albeit a bit fishy. Probably not our most favourite item as it is an acquired taste, but it is worth a try.

The Hana Maki, a special creation from Sakae Sushi cannot be found in any other sushi shops, at least the ones that I have patronised. The rice is soft and fluffy, with a tinge of vinegar. A big piece of juicy salmon wrapped around the ball of rice, just good enough for a mouthful. The best part is the dollop of mayonnaise on top, sprinkled with some prawn roe. The mayonnaise goes very well with the entire ensemble, and the prawn roe gives it a brackish tangy flavour. Definitely recommended!

Sakae blooms with lovely Sakae Blossom. Grilled salmon rolled to blooming flower on top of sushi rice coated with shrimp roe and mayonnaise. The trick is not to pick this from the belt, instead ask for new ones from the kitchen. I seriously do not know why they allow this item to be on the belt as there are salmon in it, tendency to spoilage can be rather high. Since salmon made impression to representing Japanese dishes, I supposed they figured other seafood could do the same. The new menu features many amazing seafood ingredients. I enjoy the Crispy ocean fiesta at RM12.80 although I do think that there are definitely rooms to improve the deep fried outer coat. The breaded coating appear a little hard in texture to me. The fillings however were delicious. There is a mixture of seafood like squid, prawn and some crab stick.

Let’s not stop the seafood maniac with this Avocado ebi. I really like avocado but I find this combination a little peculiar. Inari and prawn itself has strong flavor and avocado didn’t quite appeal in flavor to me.

I also tried the Grilled Ika Maki and which is a sushi roll with tuna mayonnaise topped with grilled squid. The squid was nicely grilled with some slight burnt flavor roaming with the rice when tasting it.

When I ordered my usual Kimuchi soup, this Nabe comes with amazing assorted seafood including prawns, squids, salmon fish, scallop and vegetables. The soup was slightly spicy but amazingly satisfying.
