They always say that no one knows you more than your own parent. Which was why my mom brought me to Busaba for lunch with a friend of hers because she knows how much I love having Thai food. And she's given super great reviews of this place, plus after dining there a month or two ago, I can't stop thinking about the food there. So she brought me back there for lunch as a treat again. A mandatory order whenever we could is the Meng Kiam starters. Usually you would have to wrap the little bits of

A mandatory order whenever we could is the Meng Kiam starters. Usually you would have to wrap the little bits of food in the leaves ourselves, but not here. At Busaba, each portions are individually wrapped for you. So all that we had to do was add the bean paste sauce as much as you like then eat it all in one bite. This is simple but really good.

Then again, based on good reviews by the mom, she also ordered these Thai fish cakes. I usually turn away from these whenever I see them because they are never something I like to eat. However I took one piece and found them really good, flavourful plus bouncy and chewy rather than soft. I liked this but would not immediately order it as a first choice.

Another thing that we like to order is Mango Salad. No where I have dined at ever make such good mango salad like Busaba does because they are very generous with all the crunchy toppings and there's super good spice & tangyness. Then as an added bonus for me, it also comes with this giant prawn's head which I always take the liberty to slurp up all the goodness from it. Yummy with a capital Y.

AND MY ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE OF THE DAY! The squid steamed with garlic, chillies and garlic sauce. Although the squid was really good and crunchy, I also really loved the soup that it was swimming in. I kept going back for more and more, even after my mouth was burning from the heat.

Although the price tag on the food is rather high, the quality of food that we get is very much worth it. Sometimes it is worth to splurge and treat ourselves to a good meal every now and then.

Being a lover of thai food, I usually roll my eyes when people suggest a 'fine-dining' thai restaurant because the food they serve is usually only mediocre. But with a really steep price. For appetisers we ordered a plate of Meng Kam. I honestly do not know what is in the red and dark sauce but I do know that it is absolutely amazing, especially eaten with the condiments which have already been wrapped up nicely in the leaves for you. There's a little bit of kick in there with the chillies but mellowed out beautifully by the slightly sweet sauce.

The portion is quite generous as a starter especially for three people. So I commend Busaba for their beautifully presented and absolutely delicious tasting Meng Kam.

According to my mom, they have the best Mango Salad which was a must order. However when it arrived at our table I was quite shocked to see that it came with a prawn and lots of fried bits plus nuts on top of the shredded mango.

She was right, this was so so so soooo good that we ordered a second plate as if it were our main dish. The nuts and fried bits gave such a good crunch to the juicy but sour mangoes. Just the thought of it is enough to make me salivate.

We also had an order of the Seafood Otak-Otak. Now this is actually a very simple food and could easily be gotten at pasar malam for like maybe Rm1 a piece so I was shocked to find out that mom had ordered it.

Though I was once again proven wrong because it wasn't the measly fish cake size otak we usually get in the street. The flavours of it was just so good that I coudln't help but eat another piece and just went 'mmmm' the entire time I was chewing it.

Safe to say that Busaba proved me wrong about how fine dining thai food is over-rated. I would most definitely be back to try the rest of the menu without going too crazy with their starters first.

Another week, another insanely beautiful restaurant opens at BSC. Busaba exudes a calm splendor that makes it ideal for a memorable meal. Fish maw salad. Steamed sea bass with garlic, ginger & onions. Firm, fresh and fleshy fish; not as piquant as some might expect, but we still devoured everything except the bones.

Southern-style beef curry with peanuts & potatoes. Tender meat in a curry that wasn't as creamy as we might have preferred. Still, it struck a nice balance between being spicy enough to titillate our taste buds and mild enough to keep our digestive systems calm.

Evan & Tate Salisbury Cabernet Merlot. A fair selection of wine is available by the bottle, but there are too few choices by the glass.

The drawbacks: iced & warm water isn't served for free, so customers have to order mineral water. Also, the food seems laden with MSG, since we were thirsty for hours.

Busaba: Round Two. Keen on enjoying an egg-ceptional meal? Read on. Oyster omelet. Soft, fluffy and expertly prepared with no excess oil. Desserts were decent, though eggs had no role in them. Prices were predictably high, of course _ this mango & sticky rice with luk chub (sweet green bean paste wrapped in jelly) cost around RM20 (including government tax and service charge). Steamed tapioca topped with coconut cream. Warm and sweet, but stodgy. Chinese tea & hot chocolate.

Fish maw soup with chicken, crab meat & quail eggs. Seemed wholesome and nutritious, brimming with plenty of ingredients _ except quail eggs, of which there were only two.
