Haven't had a good sushi meal for a while, so while wifey and I were at Paradigm Mall yesterday, we decided to stuff our faces with some sushi. We were contemplating between Sushi Q for a fast food version, or splurge at Sushi Zanmai. The long queue and the filled-to-the-brim restaurant almost made the decision for us. Barely 10 minutes later, we were shown to our table. Yaay! A little bit disappointed that we didn't get to sit at the conveyor belt section, but I guess that can't be helped. The restaurant can easily sit about 80 people. However, service was quite quick despite the crowd. So we took our time to browse the menu.

While waiting for our food, we prepared our utensils, which were convenient located on the table itself.

The chopsticks were nicely kept in a rectangular box for hygienic purposes. There was a jar of the all-important soya sauce, as well as a jar of wasabi in a metal container. Another jar sweet sauce was there as well. It was a good thing that it was labelled properly. Some toothpick and a metal container of chilli powder completed the set.

My entree, chawan mushi. Egg custard steamed to perfection, the concoction was soft and delectable. I usually put a few drops of soya sauce in it, as I like my chawan mushi salty. A couple of mushroom slices were on top. I always wonder how they manage to get any ingredients to float on top, as my homemade chawan mushi's ingredients always goes at the bottom.

Anyhow, after digging in, there are some pieces of juicy chicken, a whole piece of shrimp and half a naruto hidden in the chawan mushi. Very nice indeed.

I asked for some pickled ginger to clean my palate before moving on to the next dish. Well pickled, they were eye-squintingly sour, but I like the super awesome taste.

My main came at last. Niku udon, or udon noodle with sliced beef. I like the fact that the beef is more thinly sliced this time, hence it is not so tough to chew on. Sometimes, the quality differs somehow. The noodles were cooked to perfection, chewy as they should be. The soup is slightly brackish, but that suited me just fine. Tiny brown mushrooms, pieces of seaweed and some spring onions completes the set. I was more than satisfied with my meal. Wifey had other stuff, but that is a story for another time.
