I am glad to be invited to join the latest MakanVenture organized by OpenRice. We enjoyed the delicious steamboat meal and mingling with other OpenRicers. We picked Soya, Herbal Chicken and Tom Yam. The soya has a light bean fragrance and taste, with a little salty taste. Quite an interesting soup base, I can't stop sipping it especially after the ingredients were boiled inside to contribute flavour. The only complaint is it had a light burnt smell towards the finishing of the boiling process. If you don't like heavy herbal taste in your soup, Herbal Chicken is for you. The tom yam was appetizingly sour and spicy, very nicely prepared. Nice soup base- checked. Let's see the types of ingredients were offered during the day. Fresh seafood ranging from prawns (2 types), clams (at least 3 types), squids (at least 4 types), mussles, crabs, fishes (at least 4 types), all nicely arranged on bed of ice. The red colour chilli sauce (second left on the bottom) has a balanced of spicy and sour taste. Went very well with steamboat ingredients. I enjoyed this very much, which explains why I had 4 plates of them Thai Style Fresh Oyster Clams- must order item from the BBQ pit. Although they were large, succulent and juicy, it was a little too salty and the chilli sauce did not contribute significant flavour. Fancy some chicken wings like other buffet steamboat restaurants provide? Fret not, you can get 2 types of cooking method here- fried then coated with sweet sticky sauce and BBQ version. Both suited my tastebuds well, especially the sweet sticky sauce, which is close to marmite texture sprinkled with generous sesame seeds.
Another plus point here is the fruits, drinks in cups and jelly are nicely arranged in a separate refrigerator. Diners can instantly pick their desired items with easy viewing. Don't forget to end your meal with some ice cream and the ever traditional ice sticks. Reminds me of the days in primary school There were sushi and salad counters as well. So many choices of food, I have nearly lost my direction on which food to start with
