I celebrated my birthday with my other half at Bubba Gump last week at Citta Mall as it was a good cozy place for a quiet dinner.The staff were friendly when we approached the restaurant, greeting us like friends. One of them kindly ushered us to a quiet corner and promptly explains to us the concept of the store.When we need a waiter, we would need to change the sign on the table to STOP FORREST STOP. The staff were friendly when we approached the restaurant, greeting us like friends. One of them kindly ushered us to a quiet corner and promptly explains to us the concept of the store.
When we need a waiter, we would need to change the sign on the table to STOP FORREST STOP. If we would not want to be bothered, we just need to display the sign RUN FORREST RUN.
The restaurant was full of memorabilia from the movie Forrest Gump. Many old school American decorations were present around the restaurant. The ceiling of the restaurant resembles a fishing boat, which is what exact Forrest Gump used to fish the shrimps out. There is also few TVs around the restaurant showing the full movie itself. I find the TV itself distracting as I tend to look at the TV every now and then, even though I have watched the movie before.
The first to arrive was the drink, which is the 'Run Forrest Run'. It is a smoothie which is blended with oranges, bananas and raspberry yoghurt. It was rich, thick and filling because of the many ingredients used, along with the yoghurt. Some fruits can still be chewed, as they did not blend it completely. As this smoothie has oranges and raspberry, it had a hint of sourness to it, which is great as an appetizer.
The cajun shrimp arrived next, as our starter. It comes with 2 slices of freshly toasted garlic bread and a slice of lemon. After squeezing some lemon juice to the shrimps, we started dining. The shrimps were fresh and cooked to perfection. It was juicy, and springy! The shrimps has been deshelled so we can eat it easily. The cajun taste was strong and it compliments the sweetness of the prawn.
Our first main course arrived, and it is the 'Bucket of Boat Trash'. It was a bucket (literally) filled with fried seafood such as shrimps, lobster tails and fish fillets. It is served on a fictionish newspaper, which was printed during the era of the Cold War, faithful to the movie. There were articles such as the landing of the moon and JFK's victory, which is very amusing and a good read.The food itself was delicious. Served hot, all of the seafood were crunchy! The prawns were not 100% peeled, but they were fried to absolute crunchiness that you could even eat the shell. This was the same for the lobster tail. The fish was fresh, as you could see the layers of the fish meat once you bite into it.
This dish is served with cajun sauces, and coleslaw, which is a great compliment to the fried seafood.
The second main course arrived next. It was called 'Of Course We Have Scampi!'. It is a shrimp fettuccine cooked with in lemon garlic butter sauce. As a pasta lover, this pasta did not disappoint. The pasta was cooked al-dente, which is soft but firm on the inside. Perfectly done.The sauce has a tinge of lemon taste, with the aroma of garlic and sweet butter. My only complaint is that at the end of this dish, the pasta was a little too oily for my liking.
The entire meal cost around RM135. It was a satisfying and filling meal, so filling that we could not finish the pasta. The environment of the restaurant is generally quite laid back, and the staffs are friendly. Service was fast as we did not need to wait long for the food to be served.
Definitely coming back, but only for occasions as it is quite costly.
