Last week my first time coming to Melaka! After dinner at the mall, then I shop a while and then saw for this shop! I saw quite a lot of people dining in here! So I just come in and have a look for the Mille crepe cake! And the staff recommended me for the premium blueberry cheese and royal milk tea cake! So I bought for this 2 cakes as take away! They also gave for the little ice pack inside for the take away box ! It tasted so creamy and not so sweetie! The blueberry cheese and royal milk tea are so fresh And it is worthy for the price ! 😋😋👍

Ordered Nyonya Asam fish cost around RM45, portion for 1-2 pax. Not sure what type of fish is it but smelly taste.

大份。材料很足，很入味。非常好吃。 停不下来。如果不爱猪油渣的朋友可能会觉得太油腻，很不健康。但不时常吃其实OK的。薄饼采很薄，不会太厚吃下去很难嚼的感觉。 值得的。

昨天来到马六甲的时候遇到这家在KL已经没有市场的餐厅。我今天就来了尝尝，不只是普通的一家香港的餐厅。我点了一个虾饺，烧卖皇和招牌的奶皇炸煎堆。虾饺和烧卖皇都蛮不错吃。炸煎堆就不是很好吃，因为里头的奶皇不够香和好吃。价格方面，我个人认为还好平民的价钱。

Hoe Kee Chicken Rice is one of the popular chicken rice shop in Melaka for Hainanese Chicken Rice Balls. Had passed by Hoe Kee a few times but it was always closed and I had never gotten the chance to enjoy their Chicken Rice even though there are a few players out there like Famosa, Chung Wah etc about 100m apart in Jonker Street. Hoe Kee is easy to locate as it is just located right next to San Shu Gong Shop (if you are looking for Malacca traditional biscuits, candies and stuff you should know where it is).

Even looking at the queues, we did not surrender the idea of having their chicken rice. We joined the queues and not soon after, we got our seats. Service was impeccable and perfect team work was seen in the restaurant.

While in the queue, we were looking into the kitchen observing staff preparing the orders and at the same time deciding what we should order. We noticed that many had ordered their cabbages and Asam Fish Head.

Since it is very crowded, some exceptions were made up front but Hoe Kee, example, taking away service is not available and during busy times, they may not have enough rice ball, thus they will serve loose rice too.

Throughout the session of queuing and dining, this uncle had never stopped concentrating on his continuous chopping of chicken.

Menus were all pasted along the corridor and had gave us a good average calculation of how much we can spend in a meal.

 For chicken rice balls and meat, this menu serves a very good guide base on how many one should order.

And if you have specific chicken portion and parts to order, this menu is quite handy to you.

 Orders were make during our queue and even for big groups, I would say the staff did a very good job by allocating seats well. As soon as we sat in, orders came. Communications are efficiently and fluently pass down to servers and kitchen.

I love its interior as it had portray a very traditional feel like those ancient Chinese shows we watched through the television programs. It looked like a walk back into the olden dynasty but in our modern clothing.

Interior Before the dishes arrived, we took some chilli and black sauce. Chilli was fiery but come with a tad of sweetness within.

Loose rice was fluffy and fragrant, my perfect craving on and empty stomach.

Comparing the Rice Balls to the loose rice, they are stickier and packed with lesser fragrant. According to the chart written by the restaurant, the guide for 1 pax will be 5 rice balls. Each rice ball is small like Ping Pong size.

There are no other vegetables except for the small plate of Beijing Cabbages with carrots. It tastes sweet and ordinary if you want to have some greens. The portion paid is based on the number of pax you ordered.

We ordered half a poached chicken to share among 3. It was drenched and soaked up with fragrant light soy sauce, delectable with crunchy cucumber slices. Chicken was succulent and taste was to die for.

Being in Malacca for a few times, having chicken rice balls is a must have in my meals but beating the crowds, queuing up for the staples food of Malacca can be time consuming too. Unlike Famosa, there is only one Hoe Kee Chicken Rice shop, I guess queues are inevitable. However, I'm glad that we do not have to make advance reservations like those Nyonya Restaurant to enjoy such chicken rice meal.

We chanced by the corner of the street and notice there is a long queue outside Pin Pin Hiong. We joined the crowd and waited for about 20 minutes before getting a table ourselves. The reason for the queue perhaps is due to the precise cooking method of the chefs who insist to cook order by order, bowl by bowl instead of "mass producing".

Their Menu is rather limited but still attracting a good crowd.

 The interior looks like our (Singapore) Coffeeshops in the 90s with old school kind of ceiling fans and switches. Even their tiles were so old school.

The kitchen is very open and you can see that the one who standing beside the stove is an elderly man who cook in rhythm and his son. They were very focus on the dishes. Besides that, the elderly woman (assuming the wife of the man) is helping on the miscellaneous. Taking orders and serving dishes were done by their 2 maids.

Mee Sua is something that most diners had on their table. Soup was tasty topped with fried lard to perk up its aroma. As most Mee Sua Soup will turn salty due to the nature of the noodles, the combination of ingredients in the bowl and noodles make things sweet. Cooking Mee Sua is quite tricky as timing is quite important. If it gets a little over cook, these Mee Sua will turn soggy.

Ingredients in the bowl of our breakfast includes lean pork meat, liver, prawns, pig's stomach, vegetables and mushrooms.

We ordered their "Wah Tan Ho" aka fried Kway Teow with egg. Gravy was quite ordinary and ingredients used were similar to what we had in the Mee Sua soup.

 The chinese version of oyster egg is fluffy but a tad oily. Taking a closer look into the kitchen, the chef beside this fluffy plate will be the young chap - the boss's son. Oyster Egg is tasty and the use of oysters were generous. To add on, I got to enjoy pieces of them on every bite I had.

I would say their food is Asian's comfort food, heart winning. It reminds us of a childhood taste even though food was simple and homely. It might not be the most delicious in the streets but at least it had given our stomach a good warming up for the morning. I can say its definitely not a tourist as everything there looked humble.

In Malacca,besides hunting for Nyonya Food & Chicken Rice Balls, the other must eat will be Satay Celup. No trip will be complete without trying their signature dishes.

Given its popularity, many locals as well as tourists flocked to Restoran Capitol Satay and they are opened as early as 4pm. Even so, one is expected to wait in the queue.

Service of Capitol Satay is efficient. As soon as we got our seats,they are fast in replacing the bucket of peanut sauce from the previous diners. Soon other the replacement, you can see how these guys work in team to ladle up scoops of peanuts and sugar from the side benches and into our serving bucket.

Capitol Satay has an open buffet concept for diners to pick out their skewers to their tables. It's not very hygienic but that's the nature of satay celup. I noticed that the food's very fresh though, no stale, fishy smells or sour tastes.

Satay Celup's concept is buffet style and allow diners to pick out their skewers. There are a good varities of skwered seafood, vegetables and meat.

Each stick is charged at RM 1.20 each, while Orange plate at RM 3.50 and Purple Plate at RM 4.00

The gravy is thick and sweet. We dip all our skewers into the hot pot and over the fire waiting for it to be cooked. On a side note, i remembered the last round in Malacca, we had Satay Celup at another place and they will ask if we will like to reuse the peanut sauce or top up money for new peanut sauce. However in Capitol Satay, we were not sure if this bucket of peanut sauce is brand new.

With our seats so near their kitchen, we have peeped into the kitchen on how they prepare their food. Perhaps after one round and observing their surroundings, I find it hard for me to make a return.

Road trip is make interesting exploring different places especially to Baba Charlie. With so many trips to Malacca, this is my first trip to their shop and it was an eye opener to me. It seems like converting the whole residential estate to a main central kitchen for their Nyonya Delicacies. We made a few rounds in the vinicity before locating the elusive location of Baba Charlie. Perhaps the main reason is the small road to the place was rather narrow and we didnt know it was meant for a 2 way traffic. The route to Baba Charlie maybe a little bit tricky even using GPS.  As soon as it opens, we went through the main door and observed the number of people rushing into Baba Charlie. I noticed a team of kitchen workers are still preparing the food. This is good as this tell us that food is freshly made. One of us was a little bit disappointed as Kuih Dadar was not available at the time of visit as they are still preparing it. As it seemed, everyone has its own dedicated duties and were well organised. Preparing curry, some cooking Ondeh Ondeh balls, some packing it into plastic boxes, some manning the shops and some at the cashier counter to receive payment. I went into the inner shop and was astonished by the wide variety of Nyonya Snacks, from dumplings, Kueh Bahulu, Ang Gu Kueh to Kaya And Chinese New Year Snacks were also available.  My friend is a fan of Ondeh Ondeh and I must admit, their box of Ondeh Ondeh was delicious. The skin was chewy and though it did not have much oozing effect of Gula Melaka bursting out (The portion of fillings and their skin is kind of proportionate.), I would say these are freshly made and fragrant with coconut as well as sesame seeds. We also bought a box of 3 Ang Gu Kueh which contain Mung Beans. The taste was pretty ordinary and cannot be compared to the nice ones I had back in Singapore. There was no rainbow Kuih Lapis but a 3 tone (Red, pink and white) Lapis here.Layers were soft and not too sweet. Besides having the cake shop, they do have their own cafe but we never visit it. If you need Catering for buffet, they also offer such service but since we are not local, we can only enjoy take away to fix our Nyonya Kueh cravings. Perhaps if I have chance to come here, you may want to try your luck to come abit later after their opening hours to avoid disappointment that the food is not ready yet.

Finally, we had visited Amy Heritage Nyonya Cuisine before leaving Melaka. This is one of the popular Nyonya Food that have good feedbacks on the media. It is Halal and just as what was written by everyone, reservation in advance is needed. Being walk-in customers, we were only offered one of the outdoors tables out of the two, non-airconditioned by there was a ceiling fan.

As we settled down on the outside seats, the servers were quick to service. Service was friendly and efficient when handling their menu as soon as we sat down.

We flipped through the menu and notice that there were only medium and large portions. As the dishes does not contain pork and lard, it is suitable for Muslim's consumption.

The crispy top hat with shredded turnip filling and served with chilli sauce. Glad that it was not too oily.

Each Was looking forward for a bowl of Duck Soup with Salted vegetable and sour plum but it was not available, thus we order their recommended Hee Peow Soup. It is noted as "Nyonya Wedding Soup" with dried fish bladder , quail eggs, fish ball and vegetable.

The Nyonya style mixed vegetables was indeed tasty with carrots, black fungus and cabbages..

Ayam Pongteh is a classic chicken stew with soya bean paste, chinese mushroom and potatoes. The portion was generously served with couple of chicken drum sticks and delicious. I love its gravy and perfect to go on our plates of fragrant white rice.

Amy's serving of rice was quite different from the rest of the Nyonya Shops we went in Melaka. Rice was kept in a traditional old hand held basket.

As the basket was quite big and space was rather limited at the outside seats, the servers placed the basket using another table.

Our finisher for the Nyonya feast was non other than the MUST HAVE dessert, Cendol. The green jelly has a soft texture soaked in gula melaka and coconut milk.

Amy Heritage indeed has a given a homely taste to all the dishes. Coming to its portion where minimum order is medium, its not recommended for small group to dine. In addition to things to take note, do make advance booking to avoid disappointment.

Nancy's Kitchen is one of the popular places to go for authentic Peranakan Food in Melaka. Looking at its crowd, walk-in customers need to have some patience in the queue.Today's Nancy's recipe has been passed down from generations and this is the 3rd generation. With the precision towards quality of each dish being served and practices strict cooking skill, it is no wonder that the authentic Peranakan dishes bring new and as well as returned customers.

Looking at the lunch crowd on the lower level, we waited for quite a while before getting our seats.

 Interior was homely and air conditioned. The reason why we visited Nancy's Kitchen is because of its popularity and that it is non-halal.

 Being Non-Halal, we get to choose more variety to certain dishes like with pork than chicken.

With the lunch's crowd, we only managed to get seats on the upper level. The kitchen transfer all cooked food using a elevator from the ground level to the upper level.

Steamed Spring Roll aka Popiah is served with turnips , cucumber, fresh bean, coriander leave, eggs, garlic and many other vegetables. It is one of the popular starter before meal and is a must try.

 Kueh Pie Tee came in crispy hat cone form and filled with vegetable. The fillings are similar to what we have in the spring roll but in a different serving.

Having their last appetizer on the menu, they have this pork fried with bean curd skin on the menu which we often called it Ngoh Hiong. The pork is wrapped with bean curd skin and deep fried to obtain its crispiness on the outside with sweet tasty juicy pork on the inside.

Chap Chai is anohter classic Peranakan dish that we will often order. Its a combination of black fungus, lily bubs, cabbage, glass noodles, bean curd sheet and cook with preserved fermented soya bean. It is a stew mix vegetables filled with natural sweetness of the vegetable simply irresistible for young and old. However we find that the style of Chap Chai was too dry for us and was not soaked with gravy.

 Ayam / Bak Buah Keluak is a truly Peranakan classic dish. The black nut (Buah Keluak) is sold at additional cost of RM 2.00 each. Buah Keluak is originally from Indonesia and taste like truffle. Nut is cut open allowing the dish to have a sweet spicy and sourish taste.

Ladies fingers can be served 2 ways, either boiled of fried with chilli. We had chosen the steamed version and it was served with lemony chilli paste.

This is scrumptious! Duck soup was cooked on slow heat with salted vegetable and white wine, giving the taste of sourish to the dish. The dish has been passed down for 3 generations.

Last but not least, we had the classic dessert, Cendol for a sweet ending touch to the meal. Savour with Gula Melaka, coconut, green bean and coconut jelly.

Overall, Nancy's Kitchen has a home style Peranakan Food with reasonable pricing. To be honest, I am impressed by most of their dishes and will recommend to anyone who goes to Melaka and looking for Nyonya Dishes.

A must try place for food lover, love The Curry Leaf Pasta down to the earth. 9/10 for the food taste & the passion of the Chef which he cooked every dishes with full of passion. I’m truly surprise that there place that cooked such a nice food at Malacca Looking forward for my next visit Malacca to taste the Curry Leaf Pasta again. Thumb Up

满满苦瓜，肉片和猪杂的苦瓜汤，住家似的菜肴，非常适合家庭、朋友情侣来享用晚餐。虽然一坐下来老板就拿着菜单在旁直接等着我们点餐，有点压力的感觉😥，菜单没看完就匆匆点了几样，一盘盘都迷你的份量，点的时候不用怕吃不完😂最推荐的当然是苦瓜汤、炸肉、酸甜鱼片、泰式豆腐。菜式份量超小份，点过的有马来风光，肉碎多过菜，两人餐平均一人RM10-15Closed on Monday.Open from morning around 9 or 10am til 3pm and reopen at 5pm til 9.30pm

3rd visit to the shop on Thursday Night  just for the bbq hot wings, and i also order 3 plate wan tan mee from the lady boss. Abit crowded in the shop but still manage to find our seat. Normally the WanTanMee will come before the bbq chickens but end up the lady boss had forgotten my order. Quite  fed up of waiting around 45mins and saw the latecomers got their order already. Then, we order the oyster,waiting time around 15 mins and the same things happened, they give to the late comers before us. We never ask for 2nd order anymore. I know it's peak hour for dinner time, lady boss please note down customer's order and follow the sequence.
