this is truly a gastro miraclethis pizza makes this restaurant true to its namethe morrocan pizza has a lamb meat ball on each sliceon top of that it has pomegranates which gives it some sweetness and pine nuts which gives it an added crunchthe pizza is thin crust which makes it more enjoyable to eatthe pizza takes about 20 minutes to bake but trust me it is worth the wait continue reading

The Gastro Project also has a few really interesting pizzas to offer and we got to try 2 of them. The TGP Pizza and The Indian. The TGP Pizza RM28I love this one with squid and prawns on their special garlic pesto with Parmesan and a little bit of chili padi. Great depth of flavours with a nice kick. The Indian (RM28)This was also a clever fusion, with spicy chicken perratal topped with cucumber raita, chillies and paneer. Moreish.God's greatest creationOne thing of note is that they have a pretty extensive wine list so you will have something to pair with whatever you order. My favourite is this Grand Burge Chardonnay, from Barossa Valley. Crisp and suitably dry, very easy to drink. To help refresh our palate for dessert, they have thoughtfully brought out a sour and sweet lime, mint, and peach “sorbet”. Although can you call it a sorbet when you can drink it?Nevertheless it did what it had to do. And we were ready for desserts!English Strawberry Trifle (All desserts are priced at RM15 for full size)A trifle is created with layers of fresh cream, custard, strawberries (or other fruits) and some sort of coulis (strawberry, in this case). It’s not my favourite dessert so this was just ok. Maybe a tinge of citrus would help me like it more.Chocolate Cake BallsDark chocolate, that looks promising. The rum cocoa sauce was rich, and the centre was suitably bittersweet. Decadent indeed. Chocolate lovers must order this.Cardamom Pannacotta with fruit coulisSo apparently, the Pannacotta was just as tipsy as I was. The addition of cardomom was interesting and I’ll say this was my favourite dessert for the night, although the coulis was a little bit too sweet to tell what’s in it exactly.I still want the recipe for the buttercream sauce (see previous post). *hint hint* In all seriousness, the owners have definitely put a lot of thoughts into their new venture and I can see it becoming a popular neighbourhood hangout. At the risk of sounding terribly cliche, there’s something for everyone here when it comes to food and drinks, and movie buffs will definitely feel at home (check out their facebook page for the movie line up). continue reading

Food, film & friends form the foundation of The Gastro Project, unveiled in Section 17 this week to offer a hangout that's somehow both elegant & economical.Portraits of ultra-cool Bogart, Nicholson & Depp peer over diners' shoulders at The Gastro Project's ground-floor space; upstairs, a work-in-progress bar will soon start screening movies (we're crossing our fingers for a Maggie Smith marathon!).Comfort food with tiny twists steal the show: pies stuffed with lamb & apricot, pizzas topped with sausages, baked beans & eggs, plus steaks paired with avocado bearnaise.Roasted tomatoes filled with minced lamb. Prices here won't break the bank, with most starters capped at RM15++, pastas at RM20++ & pizzas at RM25++.Pumpkin ravioli. Portions feel fair; a three-course meal should suffice for most customers.Chocolate balls with rum-cocoa sauce (RM15++). Flavor-wise, whatever we ordered was OK; reasonably well-executed, without serious flaws that warrant nitpicking.Cocktails may be the true star here; love the AC Martini, mysteriously described on the menu as a mix of butterscotch, dark rum & "something else." That turned out to be apple with burnt sugar, making this a cool concoction that tastes like Apple Crumble. Most cocktails cost only RM15++: the very nice Hmmmm (midori, dark rum, fresh strawberries, brown sugar, almonds) & Bellini (sparkling wine, peach puree, peach liquor). continue reading
