On the second visit, I wanted something soupy but they don't have anything which is clear. So I settled with rice again, which deemed as a safe choice. The tomyam fried rice taste better than the normal fried rice. For one, I was given shrimps instead of anchovies. The fried rice was tastier but the chilli sauce remained sourish. The fried chicken was nice as before, fried but not dry. The fried egg was less oily and the keropok was a nice addition to the whole plate. continue reading

Food shops are abundance around the vicinity of Aman Suria and Tropicana area. We went to this humble one which is situated at the shoplots at Casa Tropicana for our lunch ordeal. We were greeted by the owner, who cheerfully guided us to our table. There were quite a few patrons although it's not at a very well-known spot. The interior of the shop is quite pleasing as it's decorated with bamboo and rattan, nostalgic steel chairs and lightbulbs, to symbolize a certain place in Penang. So I ordered the Belacan fried rice (RM9.90) and ice lemon tea (RM4) as I was quite hungry and was craving for something spicy. I was quite surprised to see the portion of the dish was quite big. The big plus was the extra belacan which is the REALLY spicy type! SYIOK! Nowadays it's quite hard to find quality belacan at shops like these. The down point is the fried chicken, they are fragrant but too bad, they are quite dry. Anyway, I still down them with a good amount of belacan! continue reading
