When I first came to this complex of Jaya 33, I was enchanted by this particular bar at the ground floor which looks spectacular from the outside, even through the glass. I vowed to myself, that one of these days, I would like to come here for a few drinks. Today, I finally fulfilled my wish with my friend, partly because there were not many places open at this hour of 9 pm.The decor was amazing. The walls of the bar area are artfully decorated with umbrellas, steel flowers, fragments of wine bottles. The main bar counter where the bartenders are located, are made of green bottles stacking on top of each other. There is also a pool table. The decoration is completely different in the restaurant area which is brightly lit with traditional thai cravings on the wall of the private rooms. The outside area has Thai traditional photos hanging on the wall and some have traditional carvings. Usually diners are taken to the secret room that is brightly lit and is probably a non-smoking zone. However, you can always opt to eat in the smoking bar area. I ordered the Som Tam Soft Shell Crab (RM 48.97) which came in very huge portion. The soft shell crab was quite delicious and still maintains the crisp yet one could cut through it. There was a generous portion of som tam to be eaten together to minimise the guilt of eating oily fatty fried food. I really love the som tam salad. The only problem was that I accidentally bit my lower lip three times in a row and had to live the rest of the week onwards with a swollen lip and 3 big ulcers on the same spot. I love the crispy raw cabbage, long beans, cherry tomatoes, carrot, peanuts and papaya salad. The portion was so big that it could feed two but if you are just eating salad for dinner, then the amount is just right. The Seafood Red Curry (RM 44.31) with white rice (RM 1.75) were quite alright but nothing much to shout about. I still preferred the red curry in the Green Curry Recipe cafe in Kuchai Lama. The red curry had a tad too much santan(coconut milk) and to my friend, tasted more like the one at the nasi kandar stall. The curry comes with prawns, octopus, fried fillet fish, brinjals and a lot of big round peas. The ingredients and the  rich sinful gravy makes for great pairing with white rice. Basically, you need to have money to dine here but if you have that, then do come as the ambience is amazing. The waiter told me that they are changing the menu so most of the cocktails listed are not available so I could not have the bomb type drinks. The bartender kindly made me Red Candy from Greedy (RM 64.13) which was fantastic. The drink was not bitter and not too sweet or sour. It has a healthy mix of sourness  and sweetness. However, when I saw the price, I almost fainted at the price when the bill came. Maybe it is named "greedy" for a reason. This is definitely a fantastic place to order wine by the bottle at RM 165  ++ which is more worth the money than ordering only cocktails. Lesson learnt for now. Oh ya, never come here without making a customary visit to the washroom and be amazed by the decoration. There is a set of bench and 2 single seats and a coffee table and some side shelves inside the washroom whereby the walls are made of shiny green tiles. There were phoenix at the corner of the room. Even the door knob has a special statue. There is even a dressing table at a corner where there is a hair dryer. The washroom speaks volumes of being the washroom of a king. Near the glass, there are 2 sets of purplish velvet sofa sets which were so comfortable and befitted a queen.  continue reading
