Had quick dinner at Baba Low, Bangsar. The place is packed with diners during meal time hence might need to wait a while for a table. Manage to grab a small table for 2 during my visit.Tried their Asam Fish with white rice - full of flavour on the gravy and just perfect to go with the white rice. Ordered the pai tee which served crispy shell with fresh vegie. For a change we ordered their Mee Sejuk to try - something new which taste quite flavourful.Overall a good meal. Will return for try some other food on menu which is unavailable during our visit. continue reading

My friend asked me, Do you want to eat Chendol? My immediate response was a strong "NO" because I dislike chendol at the roadside especially since I saw him rounding the corner near the Indian shop. Luckily my friend did not hear my objection and still proceeded to his initial intention and when I asked again when he parked the car about our whereabouts, he said we are going to eat chendol. I thought I should stop rejecting and being so fussy so I walked out of the car and try to see what is the fuss all about. My friend ordered  1 Chendol (RM 4) for both of us. It was truly Malaccan chendol! I was so surprised that hidden in the urban area of Bangsar, there is genuine Peranakan cafe whereby the owners and cook are from Malacca itself. Even seeing the name with the number 486 inside already depicted the Malaccan origin. The Chendol has a lot of Gula Melaka and also shaved coconut inside. The best part is that the chendol is not frozen like those used by the supposedly 'famed' chendol lorry at Kelana Jaya LRT station. My eyes were stuck at the Nyonya Laksa (RM 5.50) which turned out to be exactly what I have expected. The gravy was so thick and coated the bihun nicely. There were so much fresh ingredients inside from shredded cucumber to tau pok, half a hard-boiled egg, a big fresh prawn, tauge and fishcakes. When I saw the price later, I was so surprised. My friend ordered Ayam "O" with a choice of either rice or bihun. He chose rice. It came with tender chicken cooked with ginger like what most Peranakan styled chicken is cooked in. It also came with fresh green vegetables. The soup or gravy is so smooth and clear, and not a drop of oil can be seen. This dish looks like something mum would cook at home.I am definitely making a comeback for the mee sia, ayam pongteh and pai tee which is next on my list. After all, it is not that far.  continue reading

continue reading

Looking for a food that is strong and shocking, but yet simple. And my friend suggesting to goto one of my usualy place, the Baba Low's in Bangsar for the Sambal Prawn. He said that he tried once, and the food is rocking good. We went there and I ordered the Nyonya Sambal Prawn with a plate of Steamed white rice. The taste is very good and can taste the spices and herbs that used in making the sambal. The sambal is not too spicy, therefore we can taste the flavour for the sambal and the prawns. It mix well to be eat with the hot hot steamed white rice. Even it is just the plain sambal and prawn, but it is so sastisfied. The Baba Low's always uses the fresh ingredients and real recipe from the ancient Baba Nyonya cookbook. continue reading

continue reading
