Sometimes you just have to go for a close up. Finally here to give their molten lava cakes a go and this time I had the dark chocolate and salted egg yolk molten lava cakes.a slice through the soft exterior cake with a spoon reveals an overflowing goodness of the fillings. The sweetness of the ice cream is balanced with the saltiness coming from the salted egg yolk fillings but I reckon that it could be saltier I had a fair share of both lava cakes and I preferred the salted yolk molten lava cake over the dark chocolate counterpart. Nevertheless, I'll be back to give the other flavours such as peanut butter, matcha, dark and spicy, salted caramel and many more, a try! continue reading

My friends and I came here after dinner to have some deserts. The café was quite empty. Softcore has a variety of molten cakes for their customers to choose from. As a result, we took quite some time to decide on one because we were full from dinner and wanted to share one molten cake.We wanted to order the Matcha molten cake at first, but I’m not a fan of red bean, so we decided on the Salted Caramel molten cake (RM 15) instead. Although the café was quite empty, it took the 15 minutes for the molten cake to be sent to us – the time required for the cake to be served is stated on the menu.I had to mix the Salted Caramel with the vanilla ice cream as the salted caramel was too sweet for my taste bud. The popcorn given tasted like my favourite popcorn - Garretts popcorn.Besides the molten cake, we also order drinks. We ordered Hot Vietnamese Drip (RM 10) and Ice Vietnamese Coffee (RM 11). It is rare to see café to serve Vietnamese Coffee. The coffee was so good, in terms of aroma and taste! I would definitely go back for it again. continue reading

Lately, it has been a trend to incorporate egg yolk into food. Firstly, it was the molten egg yolk croissants that took the world by storm. Probably in the future there will be more food with salted egg yolk in it. And I even heard that Burger Lab created a new salted egg yolk burger just to keep up with the trend. Enough with burger lab, this post is dedicated to the best egg yolk food I’ve tried so far – salted egg yolk molten cake!!!!Since Softcore is just a few footsteps away from my university, I decided to have tea there the other day. I ordered their unique salted egg yolk molten cake which wasn’t in their menu!! I’ve realised its existence only after seeing this small sign on the counter. So make sure you keep an eye out for small signs that leads you to great food. The combination of sweet and savoury flavours were on point! The Belgium white chocolate molten cake paired with vanilla ice cream topped with crumble and rice puffs was really genius! The thick, creamy salted egg yolk really blends well with the vanilla ice cream and the soft, fluffy cake. The flavours were bursting in my mouth.I highly recommend all of you to try it!! Even if you’re not a fan of salted egg yolk, you should give this dish a try. I bet after trying this dish you will fall in love with salted egg yolk and crave for it every single day.Apart from ordering the salted egg yolk molten cake, I’ve also ordered the black lychee drink which was a combination of blackcurrant and lychee. The drink was just okay and the flavour was quite bland for me.The price for the egg yolk molten cake is quite pricey but really worth the money. I would definitely come here again for their molten cakes. continue reading

located a row behind Garage 51 cafe, this place has a white overall concept. clean and simple with a variety of tea on display for tea junkies. First visit and i had the matcha molten lava cake which was just average. found that the vanilla ice cream’s flavour was slightly bit too overpowering especially when having it with the matcha cake. i tasted more of vanilla flavours than the green tea and the lime pieces though it was just for decoration purpose but i felt that it didnt taste too good with it too. the whole combo could have been better. still have room for improvement nevertheless. continue reading
