Brunch at iKar Restaurant, Kepong Smile Sep 10, 2013

Creamy Pumpkin Soup Noodles with Garoupa Fish Fillets. My first experience with this soup wasn't good. It was almost tasteless. Surprisingly, they have further improved by enhancing the taste by adding more pumpkins. Certainly, certain amount of milk was added into the soup as well. Halfway through enjoying my meal, I would even happily pick a few pieces of pumpkin from the soup to mix the slight natural sweetness with my noodles. Knowing that they’re improving themselves from time to time in order to satisfy their customers, I admit that I was indeed delighted, because such kind of business person can rarely be found elsewhere.

I enjoyed my meal. I love my creamy pumpkin soup to the extent that when I returned again on the next day for brunch, I ordered the same bowl of soup again.

Black Pepper Ban Mian and Hot Green Tea. I have never ordered anything with soup at this restaurant. This is because fried ban mian can rarely be found, or it can only be found at Hometown Ban Mian, which makes me prioritize the different types of fried ban mian available at this restaurant. Despite so, it was merely my second visit over here, and I ordered the same thing as my first visit.

Anyway, I like it. I would love it if it didn't worsen my throat's condition. It was filled with the fragrant of black pepper. As I put a few pieces of ban mian into my mouth, I could slowly feel the slight spiciness. The level of spiciness was still acceptable. At least my tongue never went numb even after I finished my meal. Also, I love the fact that they cooked it together with capsicums, which have recently become one of my favorite food, and my all time favorite prawns. I totally enjoyed it.

Although I couldn't quite recall the name of this snack, it is recommended. It's sweet lotus seed paste covered with thin layers of crispy skin, perfect to be eaten after your meal, as a dessert. The filling was thick as well, unlike many other restaurants that tend to be too stingy to provide more, destroying the entire texture of the snack.

P/S: I am a person who loves most of the food made of flour. Thus, my review may not be applicable to anyone who does not really prefer food with thick flour.

Tokyo Gyudon. Beef rice with hot spring egg in Tokyo style. I don't eat beef, so I had my boyfriend to give comment, and he said that it was good.

Roast Katsu. Deep fried pork cutlet. This was an additional order with 50% discount if the following set dinner for two was ordered. It was harder than expected, which I guess I would love it if a little improvement is made. I was hoping it to be juicy and tender, yet it was so dry and indeed, I got tired of biting.

Onsen Tamago Caesar Salad (Half). Caesar salad with hot spring egg and pork bacon. Since it came with the dinner set, it was supposed to be smaller than the normal portion, but I thought it was still the normal portion. I have never ordered the one with normal portion. Such saying occurred because honestly, almost half of my stomach was filled with these vegetables although I shared it with my boyfriend. Nevertheless, it was delicious. The egg yolk could have been too raw for me if I were to consume it alone. By mixing it together with the vegetables, it became surprisingly yummy.

Salmon and Maguro Carpaccio. Mix salmon and tuna carpaccio. This was entirely for him. He commented that it was nice as always, except that he couldn't tell the taste of the greenish sauce. He thought that it was weird.

Tonpeiyaki. Pork, cheese, cabbage, egg. Compared to Roast Katsu, this was so much better, softer, juicier, and it's definitely fattening as well. Its texture felt like a meaty and cheesy version of takoyaki, if you get what I mean. It's difficult to explain. You must try!

Ten Zaru Soba. This is mine! I got addicted to soba ever since my previous experience with the same outlet, so I ordered it this time and had it all by myself. The level of me loving it is definitely not explainable!

Maccha Ice.

Chocolate Ice.

I thought their ice-creams would be the usual Japanese ice-cream. It was such a turn-off when they were served on our table. Instead of serving them on a glass container, they were served in plastic containers. Anyway, the sides were filled with ice whereas the ice-creams were found in the middle of the container. Personally, I didn't quite like the Maccha Ice because of its lack of maccha taste. If I were to be required to choose one, I would go for Chocolate Ice instead, although it was slightly too sweet for my liking.

We got a discount of RM30 because his birthday is near, which explains the amount of food we had consumed that night. It was a mixture of disaster and happiness. My experience was still good though, in terms of environment, services, and food! I will definitely return again.

lol

This was my second experience with this cafe and its Hot Caramel Macchiato. Although I always left the cafe with a body full of the smell of cigarette due to its smoking area located on the upper floor, as long as I am not inhaling it directly, I would not mind returning to the same place again and again for a cup of coffee once every two weeks to a month.

I love the environment. It's simple, and decorated in the kind of style that I have always fancied. The services provided have always been satisfying and I have absolutely no issues with the friendly waiters. My friends and I enjoyed being in the cafe until midnight, when they were about to close.

I love the Caramel Macchiato too. The top was decorated with caramel and cream. I stirred it after sipping some coffee, so that the sweetness would melt and mix together with the hot coffee beneath the layer of cream, and drink it bit by bit until when we were about to leave. The coffee wasn't strong, but it wasn't light either. I thought it was perfectly fine for me to drink during night time.

I definitely can't wait to have my third visit again someday!

Tea Break with Mille Crepe Smile Sep 07, 2013

Original Classic Mille Crepe. Honestly, I love Arthur's Original Classic Mille Crepe more than the one at Nadeje, Petaling Jaya. I guess it's because Nadeje serves it with a layer of sugar, making it too sweet for my liking, whereas Arthur's tastes perfectly fine and heavenly. For each bite I took, the layers can be clearly felt. The taste was not the ordinary vanilla that could be found at any bakery shops. It’s just special!

This is also the only flavor that I would ever go for, after trying plenty of other flavors. I love it original!

Tiramisu Mille Crepe. My boyfriend always loves to try something new, so he ordered this. It tasted good, but the layers could no longer be easily felt due to the cakes that existed in between. It sort of killed the purpose of a piece of mille crepe, actually.
