Brunch at iKar Restaurant, Kepong Smile Apr 11, 2013

I was totally amazed by the fact that iKar Restaurant was once published on the newspaper, which the page was specially laminated and stuck nicely by the glass door at this particular brunch where I have been visiting repeatedly. It's my love for fish head noodles that brought me to this restaurant, and iKar Restaurant is the only place that serves the best fish head noodles I have ever eaten in my life so far.

Nonetheless, specializing in fish head noodles doesn't make their drinks significantly good. In actual fact, Don and I ordered a cup of drink merely to quench our thirst. Get it?

To be specific, it's a cup of Sugarcane Juice that tasted like some syrup.

As usual, with the number of flavors available on the menu, I was always in a hopeless tangle. I have always wanted to try some new flavors, yet I could hardly let go of my strong craving for my favorite Cheese Creamy Soup although oftentimes, my stomach would be pretty plump after meal. It's too heavenly delicious!

According to their website, the high content of calcium in cheese helps to strengthen bones and teeth, and prevent osteoporosis. It is also rich in Vitamin B, which is good for maintaining healthy and supple skin. High fat and proteins in cheese can help to gain weight.

Don had their Sweet Corn Creamy Soup, which was one of their new flavors introduced quite a while ago, other than Yam with Beet Root Soup, Tomato Soup, and Spicy Hot and Sour Soup. My first experience with Sweet Corn Creamy Soup was not really pleasant. It was almost tasteless. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the chef, or they have improved, Don's was really yummy with strong corn fragrance.

Other than the wide variety of soup flavors offered, another best thing about iKar Restaurant is that you can pick some of the main ingredients from the lists given. Don and I opted for thick noodles, and we would never love to get our dories fried for its original juiciness. Undeniably, iKar Restaurant serves all of my favorite in a huge bowl whenever I crave them all!

Pork Lovers Aglio Olio. It was a big portion of spaghetti with roasted pork (literally roasted in Chinese style), honey ham, smoked bacon, and a huge meatball, tossed together in garlic and olive oil. Personally, it tasted good, but could have been much better. Serving such roasted pork in western style seemed weird for me. Still, I would really love to return again someday to try out the other types of spaghetti!

By the way, be sure to be there earlier because it's always crowded.

Ribena Blended. Kah Mun ordered a cup of RM8.00 worth of Ribena Blended. It tasted like overpriced, sweetened Ribena, to be honest, but it sort of saved my life after I finished my cup of drink, just because I was too thirsty and I was too bloated to order another cup of drink.

Teh Tarik. This was mine. Personally, I thought it was a good cup of Teh Tarik, although I repeatedly became thirsty after a few minutes. It wasn’t too sweet, and it wasn’t anywhere close to tasteless either.

Triple H. Four of us ordered this sandwich and shared. Yes, it was a sandwich wrapped with a piece of fried egg, and it was filled with chicken meat. It may sound very ordinary and easy to be made. Still, I thought it was worth the price for its uniqueness. Or maybe not. The fragrance of the egg was really good, to the extent that we couldn’t help but to finish it before our own spaghetti were even ready to be served.

Carbonara Chicken Turkey Ham Spaghetti. This was my spaghetti, cooked together with classic bacon and egg with turkey ham in a super creamy sauce. Certainly, you can always choose between turkey ham, meatballs, or smoked duck. Compare it with the cup of Teh Tarik and imagine the size of the spaghetti!

One thing to be mentioned though, was their funny services. Rou Han ordered Olive Garlic Pasta with Beef, whereas my order was Carbonara Chicken Turkey Ham Spaghetti. The waiter actually reconfirmed our order prior to placing it at the counter. Yet, when the food was served, they got confused. They served me with beef and they served Rou Han with turkey ham. Hm.

Before Nadeje finally opened its outlet in Petaling Jaya, I had been trying different types of Original Mille Crepe from one place to another, and I concluded that Arthur's Hokkaido Mille Crepe Cake served the best one among all. Or should I say that its Original Mille Crepe is the only edible one compared to all that I have tried? Ever since I visited Nadeje, I now have two options for a piece of Original Mille Crepe!

As I put a mouthful of my Original Mille Crepe into my mouth, I could instantly feel the many layers of the cake, and I immediately fell in love in the cake. However, a layer of sugar was added on top, making it slightly too sweet for my liking. It’s actually the texture that I like, whereas for the one available at Arthur's Hokkaido Mille Crepe Cake, it’s the taste that attracts me.

Don, who always loves to be adventurous, had their Cheese Mille Crepe. Personally, I wouldn’t even recommend this because I would only go for Original Mille Crepe, but Don said that it was good. The feeling was there, and it has very strong smell of cheese.

We shared a cup of Iced Hazelnut Café at RM8.80. It literally burned a big hole in our pocket. I wouldn’t think it was worth the price, since it was merely okay as a cup of coffee.

During our visit, we had to queue for quite a while since it was a Sunday. The shop wasn’t spacious, so it was quite pack, and the tables available indoor are very limited. We eventually had to sit outside and dealt with the cigarette smell and hot weather. Hence, if you hate to be in such situation, I would suggest you to bring it back home and enjoy it in a better environment, unless if you’re lucky enough to grab a seat in the shop itself. Price wise, the cakes were priced similarly to the other competitors so I was fine with it.

It was waaaaaaayyy before I graduated from Diploma in Tourism Management that Don and I went to Backofen at Taylor’s Univerisy, which was still quite new in the campus. I still visit this restaurant with my girls today, and I have been in love with their Big Breakfast Set, even though it’s extremely filling.

This plate of Potato Salad topped with their homemade creamy mayonnaise was so delicious, partly due to my love for potatoes. We nodded our heads once we tasted a mouthful of it. Just a few days ago, I ordered myself a plate of Chicken Schnitzel that came together with a small bunch of potato salad. It was slightly less creamy than it used to be, but still tasted as great.

However, it is not recommended to be consumed as a side dish, because the portion might be too huge for most people.

Don ordered Spaghetti Carbonara cooked with thick, creamy sauce. The awesome smell assailed my nostrils upon serving. In addition, I had been receiving positive feedback all the while, from my friends who had given it a good try.

You be the judge!

I ordered Grilled Chicken topped with mushroom sauce, served together with grilled potatoes. I personally think that the boneless chicken could have been slightly bigger, but the sauce was yummy.

Just for your information, the comments are based on my opinion a few years back, and it does not mean that everything would be the same today, unless mentioned above. If you happen to be a big eater and would like to have heavy breakfast in the morning, go for their Big Breakfast Set. It's been a great meal when I only have an hour break in between. Also, they only serve breakfast in the morning, and only breakfast.
