Basically, K3K is an abbreviation of Kwai Sam Kee, literally translated as K3K Kopitiam. "Sam" means three in Cantonese, by the way. The idea of setting up K3K Benta Kaya came from Ho Kwai Sam, a man who used to tap rubber and operate a grocery to earn a living. It was inspired by the strenuous efforts of the rubber tappers in getting a good cuppa and bread to go with before work. After 50 years of history at Benta, Kuala Lipis, Pahang, K3K Benta Kaya opened its first branch in Damansara Perdana, and expanded its business to Subang Jaya, Bukit Tinggi, Klang, Kuchai Lama, and etc. – Edited from K3K Benta Kaya, Malaysia (http://k3kbentakaya.blogspot.com/)

I don't usually do this. I was completely insane to order a cup of Hot Soya Honey Ginger with extra sugar. Needless to say, I regretted. It tasted so bitter that I had to mix almost every mouthful of it with some kaya in my mouth before I swallowed.

Halfway through our dinner, Don decided to order another cup of drink consisting of coconut milk, sago, and red beans if I am not mistaken. Both of us couldn't quite remember its name, and it was nowhere to be found on the worldwide web. I guess it was good, or at least better than Hot Soya Honey Ginger, judging from my recall of intention to jokingly exchange our drinks.

Kaya Char Kuih! Just by looking at the picture shown on the menu, we pretty much drooled. Prepared and tasted similarly to our traditional You Tiao, K3K Benta Kaya served it together with their homemade kaya. Although the combination of sweetness and saltiness may be weird, I thought it was unique, and it could have been perfect if the amount of sugar used for their kaya could be reduced.

Apparently, Penghulu Fried Chicken with Rice was listed as one of the chef recommendations on the menu, and I have seen plenty of positive comments from several bloggers as I went through the internet for more information. Fried to perfection, the fried chicken was crunchy on the outside, and tender on the inside. Dip it into the bowl of curry that was not spicy with strong taste of coconut milk, and it will be perfect.

It is, nevertheless, not advisable for people who concern about weight and health.

My Curry Chicken Rice was very ordinary, to be frank. Still, I loved how K3K Benta Kaya served their meals with a small bunch of Mamak Style Fried Cabbage each to sort of balance the nutrition.

I know I will definitely return one day, perhaps another brunch, because I have yet to try their side dishes that tempted me so badly during my visit. Price wise, it's similar to other cafes like PappaRich, In House Cafe, and etc. Be sure to give it a try!

Face to Face Noodles House at Taylor's University is not a good example of the saying, although inaccurate, that goes, "Good foods are never found in restaurants with multiple outlets." Their Pan Mee was not disappointing after all, even though incomparable with Kam Kei Noodles House in Selayang. Personally, it seems like a restaurant that sells overpriced Pan Mee, crowded only during peak hours.

I have only visited this particular outlet at Taylor's University for not more than five times, to be frank, and another outlet located somewhere within the country for merely once. I have tried their Creations Minced Pork Pan Mee, House Specialty Hot and Spicy Pan Mee (Dry), and Sichuan Piquant Pan Mee (less spicy), so I decided to challenge myself with their Vegetarian Hot and Spicy Pan Mee (Dry). I ended up eating it regretfully. I was about to be able to spout some flame and lava, I swear!

My overall experience with their Pan Mee was quite ordinary. In fact, I tend to take this restaurant as a backup, in case my original plan is somehow ruined.

This is something that I would never want to order ever again. I was craving for a cup of Soya Bean with Longan, and I mistook this cup of Longan Fresh Milk as what I thought it was. It was not too bad as a cup of milk, but I never like milk, that's why.

Apart from Pan Mee, Face to Face Noodles House sells Sarawak noodles, rice noodles, rice, side orders, breads, and desserts, and each of them come with various choices. As I review about the restaurant, I have come to realize that Face to Face Noodles House also specializes in the local fare with excellent fusion of Sarawak's homemade noodles, widely known as "Kolok Mee". I should give it a good try soon!

Dinner at Formosa, Sunway Pyramid Smile Apr 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Noodles | BBQ

Taiwanese cuisine seems to be something rather uncommon in Malaysia. Even if it is, the food quality may not be guaranteed, the portion size may be disappointing, or they may not offer anything that I truly fancy. For instance, I would never suggest XXL Crispy Chicken by Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks for its disgusting, weird, and smelly taste. Formosa, though, is so far the only one that I would highly recommend to give it a good try apart from Arisan at Taylor's University. Despite being operated by a group of foreigners, the food and services never fail to satisfy me during every visit.

On a side note, I have recently found out that Taiwan was historically known as "Ilha Formosa" by the Portuguese, which it literally means beautiful island.

On that particular night, Don and I did not choose our usual set meals, but we wanted to have more than what our tummies could handle. Formosa offers a very wide selection of choices of set meals to be picked. Some of them may come with or without a cup of drink of your choice, and some may or may not include a bowl of rice. It's totally flexible in a way!

However, unless I need some cold drink to calm myself, I wouldn't prefer to have their Grass Jelly Milk Tea. It tasted like a cup of drink filled with flavoring essence.

Each of us had a bowl of Braised Sauce Rice as usual, and added Braised Egg and Braised Taufu at RM3.00 in total. The first bite had indeed helped to make a life changing decision ever since; I will be sure to order all three of them every single time!

Don preferred their Hot Crispy Chicken while I opted for Taiwanese Salted Chicken to save hassles. Both of them came with soft, tender, and juicy chicken meat covered with crispy outer layer, but cooked in different ways. They're definitely finger licking good! lol

Well, not to worry. The Hot Crispy Chicken wasn't too troublesome to be eaten, in fact. YOU MUST TRY!

Dim Sum at De Templer Restaurant Smile Apr 27, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Malay | Restaurant | Halal | Dim sum

In the afternoon right after Farah sent her mum back home in Cheras, she drove me to this restaurant with Muslim and Chinese cuisines, namely De Templer Restaurant, to fill up our tummies before we headed to Batu Caves. She said she wanted to bring me there and she said she felt good that she did it today. smile Thanks a gazillion, Farah. It's indeed a good recommendation to me, to be frank. All we had were only dim sums instead of other ala carte dishes but the dim sums were kind of huge that our tummies were bloated.

This was a kind of transparent dumpling with awesomely fresh prawns and fresh scallops inside that cost me RM5.80, which was actually the most expensive dim sum among what I had ordered.

I bet you have heard of Siew Mai, since it's the most famous kind of dim sum, but they're usually filled with pork. Nonetheless, this one that I had was filled with purely fresh prawns only. Yes, their prawns were all fresh and well-cooked.

This was another kind of transparent dumpling with only fresh prawns inside, similarly to the Siew Mai filled with prawns above.

This was undoubtedly Chee Cheong Fun with prawns inside. So many dishes with prawns within an hour! Oh yes, I love prawns but the fried onion on top sort of ruined the original taste of it, and it's slightly saltier than usual.

My fried dumplings with more fresh prawns inside! In my opinion, it tasted better without the mayonnaise because I always prefer it to be original. Yes, this kind of fried dumplings seems to be one of my favorite dim sum but unfortunately, most of the dim sum restaurants mix the fillings with meats instead of purely prawns. After the only restaurant that has the yummiest fried dumplings with prawns back in Bandar Menjalara, De Templer Restaurant has definitely become my new love. lol

Seeing this makes me think of announcing good news to all my readers, especially the Muslims. This is definitely a halal restaurant, so you need not worry about anything. All you have to do is step into the restaurant, get a place that you like, settle down, order whatever you want, and enjoy your meal. It's easy! ;)

I rated 4 over 5 for the dim sum but I'm not sure about the other foods they served because I have never tried any of them. Whilst for the services, I rated 3 over 5 because it's only slightly better than normal. What are you waiting for?

Brunch at iKar Restaurant, Kepong Smile Apr 11, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

I was totally amazed by the fact that iKar Restaurant was once published on the newspaper, which the page was specially laminated and stuck nicely by the glass door at this particular brunch where I have been visiting repeatedly. It's my love for fish head noodles that brought me to this restaurant, and iKar Restaurant is the only place that serves the best fish head noodles I have ever eaten in my life so far.

Nonetheless, specializing in fish head noodles doesn't make their drinks significantly good. In actual fact, Don and I ordered a cup of drink merely to quench our thirst. Get it?

To be specific, it's a cup of Sugarcane Juice that tasted like some syrup.

As usual, with the number of flavors available on the menu, I was always in a hopeless tangle. I have always wanted to try some new flavors, yet I could hardly let go of my strong craving for my favorite Cheese Creamy Soup although oftentimes, my stomach would be pretty plump after meal. It's too heavenly delicious!

According to their website, the high content of calcium in cheese helps to strengthen bones and teeth, and prevent osteoporosis. It is also rich in Vitamin B, which is good for maintaining healthy and supple skin. High fat and proteins in cheese can help to gain weight.

Don had their Sweet Corn Creamy Soup, which was one of their new flavors introduced quite a while ago, other than Yam with Beet Root Soup, Tomato Soup, and Spicy Hot and Sour Soup. My first experience with Sweet Corn Creamy Soup was not really pleasant. It was almost tasteless. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the chef, or they have improved, Don's was really yummy with strong corn fragrance.

Other than the wide variety of soup flavors offered, another best thing about iKar Restaurant is that you can pick some of the main ingredients from the lists given. Don and I opted for thick noodles, and we would never love to get our dories fried for its original juiciness. Undeniably, iKar Restaurant serves all of my favorite in a huge bowl whenever I crave them all!
