This modern coffee shop prides itself in its specialist coffee blend and its seasonal selection of single origin beans, all roasted and ground fresh in-house daily. Apart from the usual styles, the cafe also offers alternative brewing methods such as siphon, French Press and Pour Over.

Plan B's modern "Aussie meets New York deli" menu boasts hearty breakfasts, contemporary salads, wholesome sandwiches made with freshly baked breads; pastas, and a variety of rustic cakes and desserts.

I am always tempted by their pouched eggs that come together with several dishes, and I was expecting to order something with a pouched egg to satisfy my craving, only to realize that they are only available until 6.00pm daily. Such a disappointment!

Somehow, I found myself being impressed by the fact that Plan B uses some of the appliances that are commonly found in a laboratory or a surgical suite, including trays and the glass bottles for plain water. Not knowing initially what it was, I had a little shock when our plain water was served. Personally, I thought it was a brilliant and economical idea without having to waste anything.

By the way, here at Plan B, refillable plain water is always served upon placing your orders.

Ezy, who was not planning to have a proper meal, ordered Almond Toffee Bar to be shared among us.

From the photo above, you could clearly see that the almond pieces were compressed to a certain extent and mixed with toffee. It was ridiculously sweet, to be frank, but as a person who never fancies nuts or almonds, it tasted extraordinarily good, so good that I am already planning to order it again during my next visit.

This is highly recommended! Out of curiosity and greediness, we ordered a Flourless Chocolate Fudge Cake. Its texture was so different from any other cakes. It was extremely soft and it wasn't too sweet for the girls who have very sensitive sense of taste. Really flourless, I would say!

Nevertheless, do not try to inhale as you eat it, because the chocolate powder topped on the cake might choke you accidentally.

Kah Mun ordered a Rocky Road Bar and sort of regretted it later on. The upper part was filled with marshmallows and chocolate, while the bottom part was merely a piece of chocolate cake, made of cereals, according to Kah Mun. I had one without marshmallows, and stopped eating the second piece of it ever since. Get it?

Here comes my meal of the night! I had Wild Mushrooms under the category of pastas. Using linguine, it was cooked together with different types of mushrooms and scented with truffle oil and thyme. I was surprised to see lemon in it, making it a unique kind of pasta. Despite so, the chef did not cook it well enough. The mushrooms hidden underneath were too salty to be eaten, although I ended up forcing myself to finish everything on my plate. If you are never afraid of the saltiness, then you should go for it.

Adding the two sandwiches ordered by Rou Han and Kah Mun, namely Rare Roast Beef Sandwich and The Loaded Club Sandwich, we had paid a total of RM99.75, which was equivalent to approximately RM24.94 per person. Considering the food quality and the environment provided, the money was certainly worth every penny. We were shooed though, merely because it was approaching their closing time, and we didn't quite like it because no one loves to be rushed. I will definitely visit the one at Publika one day, because of the positive comments I have been receiving all the while.

How about you?

Don and I were hunting for a place for steamboat on that very night when we decided to stick to our previously ruined original plan to visit Onepot in Kepong, where it's known for its paper grill steamboat, only to realize that it no longer exists. Therefore, we searched for Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ Buffet to give it a try, and tadaaa, we got ourselves settled and ready for the amount of meats.

Started its operation by a Korean on 14th of July 2012, the name of the restaurant, Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ Buffet, has stated the obvious. It is an air-conditioned barbecue buffet restaurant with casual atmosphere, serving some of which could be found in any other Korean barbecue restaurants of a certain level, such as Daorae Korean BBQ Restaurant. If you were to question about the price difference between lunch and dinner, it is related to the food selection available.

During lunch time, they only serve Sesame Beef, Soya Beef, Soya Chicken, Spicy Chicken, Soya Pork, Spicy Pork, Korean Pancake, Korean Glass Noodles, Kimchi (lettuce), Kimchi (radish), Kimchi (cucumber), Fish Cake, Crab Stick, Chicken Sausage, drinks, and desserts. Whereas during dinner time, they serve everything they have to offer during lunch time, and Wine Pork Belly, Pork Belly, Pork Shoulder, Pork Ribs, Beef Ribs, Seafood (prawns, clams, squids, octopuses), Rice Cake with Spicy Sauce, and Korean Sushi.

What is a Korean restaurant without their typical Korean alcoholic beverages? Definitely, they have Soju at RM16 per bottle, Makgeoli (contains 7% alcohol) at RM16 per bottle, Hite Beer at RM10 per can, and soft drinks at RM3.50 per can. With the prices stated, an additional amount should be paid if you order any of these. Unfortunately, they do not offer Shik Hae, a traditional Korean sweet rice drink.

We were greeted with a smile by a waitress before entering the restaurant. As soon as Don and I were seated, the staffs immediately prepared all the necessary materials, including a non-stick grill pan, cooking tongs, scissors for the meats, dishes, and utensils. Here at Ssikkek Korean Grill BBQ Buffet, oil is never needed, because the pork could easily provide you with more than enough oil. Seeing that we did not know how to start off, the waitress approached us and voluntarily cooked for us a piece of Pork Belly as a demonstration. When we attempted to cook some Spicy Pork and Soya Chicken, the boss snatched away my cooking tong and showed us the correct way to cook them. Being violent is the key!

Cooked and uncooked foods were both served during our visit, and they are served every single day and night. Unfortunately, although it was merely a few minutes past 8pm, the Korean Rice Cake was left with merely two pieces and a small piece of Korean Fish Cake. I guess they were mostly taken by the working adults who came earlier than us. Darn!

By the way, most of the cooked foods were cold. I didn't mind that. I believe some of you do not mind consuming cold food. Still, I think it is my responsibility to warn you in advance, as I review the restaurant.

Don loved the Marinated Beef Ribs so much that he could not stop getting more of them until his stomach was bloated. According to him (I don't eat beef, for your information), he overcooked the Sesame Beef and Soya Beef so he didn't quite like them. Ahah!

I felt exactly like a chef as I grilled my Pork Belly and fried the meat. Surprisingly, they were all perfectly done! I loved how tender and juicy the outcomes were, but the amount of fat was also directly proportional to them.

Just like what we do when we dine in at a Korean barbecue restaurant, once the meat is grilled, wrap it with a piece of lettuce, add some spicy sauce and sesame oil, and stuff it into your big mouth. We did. It was heavenly great. Yuuummmmmmm!

The food selection may seem to be limited; in my personal opinion, it is very affordable if you are a meat eater for the tagline "EAT ALL YOU CAN". It would be a heaven to you. Definitely, it could be a waste if you aren't. When I looked through the bill, I was pretty surprised by the fact that no tax was charged at all. It is worth a try, I would say!

Nevertheless, I guess I would visit only once every few months. I felt sinful. :|

Brunch at iKar Restaurant, Kepong Smile Sep 10, 2013

Creamy Pumpkin Soup Noodles with Garoupa Fish Fillets. My first experience with this soup wasn't good. It was almost tasteless. Surprisingly, they have further improved by enhancing the taste by adding more pumpkins. Certainly, certain amount of milk was added into the soup as well. Halfway through enjoying my meal, I would even happily pick a few pieces of pumpkin from the soup to mix the slight natural sweetness with my noodles. Knowing that they’re improving themselves from time to time in order to satisfy their customers, I admit that I was indeed delighted, because such kind of business person can rarely be found elsewhere.

I enjoyed my meal. I love my creamy pumpkin soup to the extent that when I returned again on the next day for brunch, I ordered the same bowl of soup again.

Tokyo Gyudon. Beef rice with hot spring egg in Tokyo style. I don't eat beef, so I had my boyfriend to give comment, and he said that it was good.

Roast Katsu. Deep fried pork cutlet. This was an additional order with 50% discount if the following set dinner for two was ordered. It was harder than expected, which I guess I would love it if a little improvement is made. I was hoping it to be juicy and tender, yet it was so dry and indeed, I got tired of biting.

Onsen Tamago Caesar Salad (Half). Caesar salad with hot spring egg and pork bacon. Since it came with the dinner set, it was supposed to be smaller than the normal portion, but I thought it was still the normal portion. I have never ordered the one with normal portion. Such saying occurred because honestly, almost half of my stomach was filled with these vegetables although I shared it with my boyfriend. Nevertheless, it was delicious. The egg yolk could have been too raw for me if I were to consume it alone. By mixing it together with the vegetables, it became surprisingly yummy.

Salmon and Maguro Carpaccio. Mix salmon and tuna carpaccio. This was entirely for him. He commented that it was nice as always, except that he couldn't tell the taste of the greenish sauce. He thought that it was weird.

Tonpeiyaki. Pork, cheese, cabbage, egg. Compared to Roast Katsu, this was so much better, softer, juicier, and it's definitely fattening as well. Its texture felt like a meaty and cheesy version of takoyaki, if you get what I mean. It's difficult to explain. You must try!

Ten Zaru Soba. This is mine! I got addicted to soba ever since my previous experience with the same outlet, so I ordered it this time and had it all by myself. The level of me loving it is definitely not explainable!

Maccha Ice.

Chocolate Ice.

I thought their ice-creams would be the usual Japanese ice-cream. It was such a turn-off when they were served on our table. Instead of serving them on a glass container, they were served in plastic containers. Anyway, the sides were filled with ice whereas the ice-creams were found in the middle of the container. Personally, I didn't quite like the Maccha Ice because of its lack of maccha taste. If I were to be required to choose one, I would go for Chocolate Ice instead, although it was slightly too sweet for my liking.

We got a discount of RM30 because his birthday is near, which explains the amount of food we had consumed that night. It was a mixture of disaster and happiness. My experience was still good though, in terms of environment, services, and food! I will definitely return again.

lol

This was my second experience with this cafe and its Hot Caramel Macchiato. Although I always left the cafe with a body full of the smell of cigarette due to its smoking area located on the upper floor, as long as I am not inhaling it directly, I would not mind returning to the same place again and again for a cup of coffee once every two weeks to a month.

I love the environment. It's simple, and decorated in the kind of style that I have always fancied. The services provided have always been satisfying and I have absolutely no issues with the friendly waiters. My friends and I enjoyed being in the cafe until midnight, when they were about to close.

I love the Caramel Macchiato too. The top was decorated with caramel and cream. I stirred it after sipping some coffee, so that the sweetness would melt and mix together with the hot coffee beneath the layer of cream, and drink it bit by bit until when we were about to leave. The coffee wasn't strong, but it wasn't light either. I thought it was perfectly fine for me to drink during night time.

I definitely can't wait to have my third visit again someday!
