EAT @ J'S  Smile Sep 29, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Café | Steaks / Chops | Sweets/Snack

Nestled in the neighborhood of Taman Sea is where Eat @ J’s located and has been greeting the patrons nearby for 3 weeks now by the time we visited it.

A soothing and calming ambiance oozes through the contemporary atmosphere upon stepping in the vintage yet artsy decorated interior.

Savory dishes are mainly helmed by Nicholas himself, whilst the pastries side are left under the good hands of Sue, a devoted gastronome who enjoys food and baking at the same time. The passionate baker has actually purposely gone to Australia for 2 years, to master and get herself certified in baking professionally, wow!

From the farm, enjoyed the crafted poultry plates that easily conjure up gemütlich memories

HONEY BALSAMIC CHICKEN WITH MASH POTATO AND ROASTED PUMPKIN AND GREEN BEANS ON SIDE (MYR 19)

The complementing chemistry that works best between honey and chicken meat has seen them collaborating even better with balsamic vinegrette, further unleashing the sweetness of the poultry meat, served atop the nicely cubed pumpkins that are fragrantly pan-fried till a medium-soft nuance.

GRILLED STEAK WITH GREEN BEANS AND CARROTS, PAIR WITH HASSELBACK POTATO (MYR 28)

Sirloin grilled after brushed with house special seasoning oil that creates that luscious thinly caramelized layer on the meat exterior while remaining juicy and tender within.

Sauce upon request but I think the meat is already good by itself. Sometimes, I think it’s better to uphold the legacy of enjoying true and honest food au naturel, rather than smothering it heavily with other gravy which at times might drown its veritableness.Nevertheless, the accompanied black pepper sauce is aromatic as the peppercorn is freshly grounded, together with mushroom sauce crafted with shitake and demiglaze.

From the sea, we have this juicily grilled salmon.

GRILLED SALMON ON BED OF SAUTÉED SPINACH, ROASTED POTATO, PEARL BARLEY AND CHERRY TOMATOES (MYR 24)

Salmon is nicely pan grilled with skin intact, rendering uber juiciness packed within the toothsome fish meat that is rich in Omega-3. Albeit I might prefer a crispier and slightly browned fish skin, can’t deny the fact that it’s actually equally healthy and mouthwatering dish showcasing simplicity as its best. Holland mashed potato has also undergone straining process for a finer texture, enriched with some unsalted butter, served with sautéed aragula, cherries tomato and barley.

Now let’s make way for some delectable home baked pastries!

BANANA CREAM PIE & KEY LIME PIE (MYR 10.50 each)

Pies are lovesome here, namely Banana Cream and Key Lime. Contrasting with the tartness of the calamansi themed confectionary, I personally love the former one as the banoffee-like pastry is house-crafted just nice, not overly sweet nor soggy, which more often than not, is kinda saccharine after the banana got caramelized as encountered elsewhere. So whenever now am craving for some sweet fix, I’ll literally ‘Eat @ J’s’! (✿◠‿◠)

And little Jayden is seen enjoying his favourite lime pie mirthfully. The toddler is also the gem of the café’s owners, hence the significant and meaningful name given to the shop, J’s!

With that happy face behind, it’s already a beautiful mass but a yummy one smile

To wind down the scrumptious night, what’s better than to sip some decent cup of joe?

LATTE (MYR 10) Greet your palate with a robust flavor

COLD BREW LATTE (MYR 12)

Clean nicety and sleek aftertaste.

Each coffee beverage here is served double shot, using 100% Arabica beans from the blend of Brazil and Columbia, dark roasted for the nutty but smooth finishing.

All food here is priced nett and lunch set is available on weekdays only from 12pm – 3pm from MYR 9.90 onwards, so what are you waiting for? But it is advisable to reserve earlier as limited portion is available daily while stock last to ensure the optimum quality and money-for-value meal are served.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

FOOD CLANS Smile Sep 29, 2015
Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant

Too much food to try but too little time to spend? Then Food Clans has got you all covered gladly under one roof!

Joining the food hive at GTower building, foodie clans especially busy expatriate and tourists alike literally save up a whole lots of time by being able to savour signature dishes of Malaysia without the hassle having to go up all the way to its respective states, just to sample few of them, if time is not at your side. Over here, only the best culinary maestro recipe and freshest ingredients are showcase. This explains why this café-cum-bistro ambiance is usually packed during lunch hours.Embarked on a chic and modern enclave unlike the usual chattering food court arena, Food Clans provides a more cozy place for pleasant dining moment while enjoying your fragrant cup of joe paired with your favorite chuck. The cafe starts as early as 7am during the weekdays to cater for the office crowds.

Breakfast set available from MYR 7.50 onwards, 7am to 1030am throughout.

TOAST BREAD WITH KAYA AND BUTTER (MYR 3.20)

A popular snack in both Malaysia and Singapore

COFFEE (MYR 3.50)

An aromatic cup using local house blend of 100% Robusto, rendering a much fruitier and acidic palate.

ICED COFFEE (MYR 4)

Personally I enjoyed the cold version more as the engaging coffee flavor still remained robustly throughout without getting too diluted by the iced cubes.

ICED LIME JUICE (MYR 3.20)

The ideal thirst-quencher during such sultry weather.

HOT CHAM (MYR 4)

Essentially coffee mixs with milk tea for a smoother nuance, just like how our locals love it!

Soon, we were served some of the best sellers in the house, get ready to be teleported on culinary trip from Penang to Sarawak (=

Let’s first start off with Sarawak Noodles stall, shall we? ^^

SARAWAK KOLO MEE (MYR 8.90)

Springy homemade noodles that are flavorfully paired with minced chicken meat, fried wanton, sturdy siew pak choy and fragrant fried chopped garlic. A fairer rendition from Sarawak than our common dark sauce wantan noodles.

SARAWAK LAKSA (MYR 11.90)

A toothsome bowl of laksa that is much heavier on the spice taste, contrary to the more piquant Penang’s version. Prawns are delightfully fresh and chewy, along juicy laces of chicken breast.

CHAI KUEH (MYR 6)

Bounteous filling that comes with assorted veggies and also Chinese sweet turnip in each dumpling, giving our taste bud a tickle of bursting flavor in the mouth.

Rice set is also available from 13.90 onwards on weekdays.

Now, it’s time to whet the palate with some mouthwatering and famous Penang hawker food delivered authentically from the Pearl of the Orient.

Lorong Seratus Tahun- Authentic Penang cuisine, am sure this brand is already widely known among us (=

PENANG CHEE CHEONG FUN (MYR 7.90)

An epitome serving of your slurpy-licious chee cheong fun that comes accompanied with the pungent prawn paste (some might not like it as it’s more of an acquired taste) as well as chili relish for added spice!

LST CURRY MEE (MYR 10.90)

Strands of silken noodles swimming brightly in the saporous curry gravy, together with tasty companion of prawns, chicken meat, cockles (depends on availability), and not forgetting its homemade chilli paste that enhances the overall flavor. Slightly thinker than the Sarawak Laksa as the former has been added with coconut milk.

Oh, did I just heard “Where is Penang famous staple, Char Koey Teow? Hehe..

Fret not, as Food Clans has it covered under its belt too.

LST FRIED KOAY TEOW (MYR 12.90)

A plate of translucent noodles stir-fried till fragrant and dished up full of ‘wok hei’ to titillate your tummy more.

Also remember to cool down with a bowl of chilling PENANG CENDOL (MYR 7.90) too.

Comes with slight saltiness form the coconut milk, but indeed a delish signature, served originally with gula Melaka to distinct itself from the sweeter version at Klang Valley.

Lunch set starting from MYR 16.80 onwards and also available on weekdays.

Last but not least, a quick glimpse of the popularly recognized dish from Indonesia- Ayam Di Penyet.

AYAM PENYET (MYR 11.90)

Authentic Indonesian smashed fried chicken specially relived from East Jawa. Chicken thigh is still tender even after deep-fried till golden brown, decently marinated with herbs and served up with the challenging belacan past. Seriously, if you have a faint tongue, do go easy on this seemingly unintimidating sauce, as it can get really spicy to the level of numbness at times, haha. So be prepared to sweat!

Ayam penyet value meal and lunch set available from MYR 6.90 and MYR 10.90 onwards respectivelyRelishing in good food has never been easier at Food Clans, a one-stop food kiosks featuring Malaysia’s signature hawker food together with some neighbouring recipes. For me who enjoy more laid-back atmosphere without much noise from the crowds, I prefer to visit this place during the weekend where more relaxing ambiance is exuded. Come and check out this contemporary establishment soon!

** Pork-free

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

SOFTSRVE ICE-CREAM & DESSERT BAR  Smile Sep 29, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Café | Ice Cream / Froyo / Gelato

What kind of snack first comes to your mind when facing such sweltering weather recently?Does an ice cream parlour sounds appealing enough? (=

Softsrve Ice Cream sets out with a bright and sleek environment, with mostly theme is revolving around white and pastel hue, backing on a frolicsome atmosphere. I especially love its simplistic yet stylishly projected interior, with abundance of natural light enlivening up the whole enclave. Indeed a perfect hideout for any passionate shutterbugs.

The welcoming soft tints and soothing designs of this relaxing place immediately puts you at ease. Casual yet swanky in its own way, the wooden design and natural lighting personify a verandah-like ambiance that literally invite you over to unwind the day within the little oasis.

Emblazonment is kept simple with only its brand name. Simply neat and clean.

Currently, there are 3 main flavours to choose for the base. Guests can then opt to have it plain or tad playful with its assorted toppings.

CEREAL MILK

For toppings, we go for the BREAKFAST (MYR 11)

Come with caramelized cereal and fresh strawberries, amusingly tickling our mind into thinking that we are really having cereal with milk! (=

Love the gratifying milkiness that is plainly toothsome and not overly doing it, but just at the right level of milk-sweetness ratio, and paired with the addictive crunch of the caramelized cereals. Otherwise, plain cereal milk soft serve is available at MYR 8.

DEEP CHOCOLATE

This round, we opt for more nutty bites, hence we pair it with NUTS (MYR 12)

Assorted nuts which includes pumpkin seed, crushed pistachios, almonds and many more. Accompanied by a quick drizzle of chocolate sauce to spice it up further.

Otherwise, plain Deep Chocolate soft serve is also a joy by itself with its chocolaty nuance and available at MYR 8.Wanting some hot grubs to go along too? Worry not as Sort Serve has gotten it ready for you.

CHURROS WITH DIPPING SAUCE (MYR 9)

4 sticks of freshly prepared churros comes dense palatably with dipping sauce to choose from; cinnamon caramel sauce for the classic one or dark chocolate sauce.

And here comes my favorite pick of them all! Japanese roasted green tea (-=

HOJICHA (MYR 12)

The subtle fragrance and aroma of this roasted tea is very gentle yet pleasurable enough to tickle your taste buds joyously on a hot day. The unique taste from The Land of The Rising Sun somehow reminds me of my favourite Matcha-inspired food, especially matcha gelato. Both are daintily milky but filled with their respective tea fragrance, with hojicha on the smoother side while matcha more on the rawness of the green tea itself.

Options to cheer it up more with caramelized sunflower seeds and pineapple flower. Wow, now; that’s double the fun, double the joy!

Or decide to make it into a cone for additional MYR 2

Otherwise, plain Hojicha soft serve is also available at MYR 9.

Now if you are wondering what’s the difference between the usual ice cream and soft-serve and perhaps even gelato, drop by one of these days to try it out yourself and I believe your discerning taste bud would reveal the answer to you.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

GRAND HARBOUR RESTAURANT  Smile Sep 29, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Dim sum | Business Dining | Group/Family dining

Frequent patrons of Fahrentheit 88 might have noticed that Grand Harbour has been docking at the mall for nearly 3 years now, offering a moreish array of Oriental cuisine with the menu ranging from Dim Sum to fine Cantonese gourmet delicacies, all under the seasoned hands of maven chefs. It first embarked as a private kitchen where exact menu is not available, but instead customers are encouraged to dine in with their favourite or special request conveyed to the Chef. He will then dish out accordingly at his best, presenting you the freshest homey dish as you wish. As time passed, menu is soon introduced for the convenience of all walks of life in case they have not much idea what to eat and would like to browse through some option.

The restaurant is set up with two concepts – Grand Harbour Dim Sum & Chinese Cuisine which has a refreshing contemporary and comfortable setting caters for different occasions with an elegant and sophisticated ambiance.

Opulent dining rooms with grandeur and bright, soothing ambiance. In a blink of an eye, another Mid Autumn Festival is going to greet us real soon. In conjunction with the celebration mood, Grand Harbour has come up with a range of mooncake series anchored to the traditional flavours offering between baked butter pastries skin as well as snow skin type. All mooncake fillings are freshly made inhouse, hence customers could be assured of preservative-free and healthfully delicious mooncake baked fresh from the kitchen of Grand Harbour.

But first, let’s sample some hearty recipes from the private kitchen of Grand Harbour, all skillfully woofed by experienced before relish in the scrumptious homemade mooncake.DOUBLE STEAMED ‘TIAN MA’ FISH HEAD SOUP (MYR 16/ BOWL)

Double-boiled soup using various herbs like ‘tong chung cho’, grouper and ‘long tan’ fish. Every sip is saporous and flavourful with the seafood sweetness

BARBEQUE PORK & SUPERIOR SOY SAUCE CHICKEN

Nicely glazed succulent char siew served together with tenderly juicy chicken meat. Just how the usual Chinese folks like it.

FRIED YEE MEE WITH ASSORTED MUSHROOMS AND TRUFFLE OIL (MYR 19.80- SMALL)

A marriage between East and West.

The moment it arrives to my gustation, the presence of the truffle oil is already discernible due to its unique raciness. A rather interesting idea to be incorporated here.

STIR-FRIED SOUR, SWEET, BITTER AND SPICY (MYR 18.50- SMALL | MYR 31.80 MEDIUM)

As the given name depicted, diners can expect a plethora of flavours hovering between harmonious sweet- bitter acerbities from the bitter gourd, spiced up by the pickled Chinese veggies. So let’s discover the health benefits of bitter gourd now!

STIR-FRIED KAILAN WITH FANG YU (MYR 18.50- SMALL | MYR 31.80 MEDIUM)

Love the crisp and crunchy greens bites of the kai lan, stir-fried till sturdy to the palate. This is my kind of toothsome and healthy veggies plate.

FRIED GLUTINOUS RICE WITH CRAB (MYR 85.80 FOR 5-6 PAX)

This dish need advance order as it’s depending on the stock as the crab is sought from India.

The Sri Lankan crab is rather huge and served atop a bed of texturized savoury glutinous rice and comfortably served up to 6 pax.

STEWED ‘KAMPUNG CHICKEN’ WITH CHINESE WINE (MYR 33.80- SMALL | MYR 65.80 MEDIUM)

Using free ranch chicken for the better meat texture and healthier choice, then cooked with rice wine and house special marinade and sauce, rendering a very flavorsome dish that easily goes well with a plate of white rice. The black fungus also adds some pleasant chewy bites too.

Perhaps some space for several desserts first before ushering out the mooncakes? (=

TEOCHEW SWEET YAM PASTE (MYR 7.50)

CHILLED MANGO SAGO WITH PAMELO (MYR 9.80)

CHILLED MANGO COCONUT PARFAIT (MYR 7.50)

CHILLED COCONUT PUDDING (MYR 13.80)

The new delight to be introduced this year spicing up your festive month is none other than the floral Sakura Chrysanthemum.

SAKURA CHRYSANTHEMUM (MYR 18.80)

Traces of flowers petals are evident, adding subtle fragrance to the tea-infused mooncake paste. It greets your taste bud with some flower fragrance before leaving you with subtle tea aroma aftertaste. Thankfully, it’s not too sweet too (=

BLACK SESAME WITH WHITE LOTUS (MYR 18.80)

SHANGHAI MOONCAKE SINGLE YOLK (MYR 17.80)

SNOW SKIN YAM PASTE (MYR 16.80)

Limited edition of corporate gift box is also available at MYR 128.80 for 4 pieces of selections from Sakura Chrysanthemum, White Lotus Double Yolk, Fruits Nut Mixture, White Lotus Paste)Overall, the mooncakes range are delectable and not so sweet, perfect as a corporate gift as well as present to our beloved parents. Hence, health-conscious folks has no reason to hold back any mooncake craving (since it’s just once in a year thingy) and could enjoy them joyfully. For best merriment, remember to sip a cup of tea or two to complement the Oriental tete-a-tete session. Happy Mooncake Festival guys!

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

B & W CAFE PLT Smile Sep 29, 2015
Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches | Desserts

B & W Cafe is currently into its 8 months now since its opening last November, offering a variety of decent grubs to kick off the day nutritiously.

Embarking on a healthy lifestyle concept, most of the food served here are manifestly less oil, less fried, less sweet, less salty but still tasted comfortably. Breakfast and sandwiches menu are served all day here.

ENGLISH BREAKFAST (MYR 13.50)

Possibly the most copious Big Breakfast that you come across by far- poached huge sausage and ham, served alongside the common companion like sweet corns, baked beans, toasted wholemeal bread and an option of sunny side up or omelette. I especially enjoy the juicy and pleasant-tasting poached sausage as it’s packed with natural meat sweetness of its own and a lovely chewiness too.

CHICKEN MANGO SANDWICH (MYR 10.50)

This mango- enlivened grub is one good attester to this salubrity. First bite of the sliced mango strips kinda puzzle me for a moment, but immediately turn into a pleasant amusement palatably after a mouthful bite of all sandwiched ingredients at one go. Together they are surprisingly very refreshing and sapid in their own way, where the slight sour and not too sweet mango strips spiced up the chuck toothsomely, especially when paired with the decently grilled chicken meat and appetizingly light mayonnaise.

PIE WITH SALAD (MYR 8.50)

The mushroom pie simply stands out especially with its light and crispy puff, enveloping moist and flavourful shitake filling. Diners have the option to choose the pie filling- curry chicken, black pepper beef or creamy mushroom, served with lettuce and cherry tomatoes.

Coffee time!

Each coffee beverage is served double shot, from the nutty and chocolaty blend of Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala currently. That explains a stronger body aftertaste.

MATCHA LATTE (MYR 11.50)

AFFOGATO (MYR 11.50)

Served with double scoop of cornflakes vanilla ice cream, mellow out the mild acidic and spiky coffee palate.

And eventually complete our meal with some light desserts (=

WAFFLE WITH STRAWBERRY AND BLUEBERRY (MYR 11.50)

Just add on MYR 4.50 for a scoop of ice cream.

“Thank you, your waffle was delicious”, exhorted by a genial Japanese couple when leaving the premise after a quick dining. True enough, my fruity waffle fares as testified. I love the berries and salted caramel ice cream pairing atop the fluffy waffle that furnishes a refreshing nuance. It would be even better if the waffle is made crispier on the liege crust.

Tea time set is also available during weekdays only between 3pm to 530pm, with options from scones, waffle or muffins.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤
