It’s been some time ago since we last attended coffee appreciation class at Università delCaffè della Malesia (UDC). And upon hearing another session gonna be carried out at CAFFÉ CREAMA at Plaza Mont Kiara, we jumped on the invitation call and headed to the café albeit on an early morning over the weekend. After all, it fits the punch line, doesn’t it? (=

For that day, early risers like us were introduced to several specialty blends along with some info sharing of the respective beans origin by Elvin, the owner of Caffé Crema who
is a real passionate coffee lover, often travels to Italy to keep abreast of the region latest tech-savvy; Polaris of Coffee Machine- La Marzocco. Being in the coffee roasting scene himself, he’s glad to see the evolving interest on gourmet coffee among the community nowadays, catapulted from our childhood brand of US big brands to coffee aficionado of third wave boutique coffees. Indeed an interesting coffee journey right?

Hence, Caffé Crema was borned and cultivated into a nice, comfortable enclave that easily spurs anyone into merry mood by its vinyl disc melodious tunes playing at the background upon stepping in. The ambiance is further accentuated aesthetically with the redesigned work of the junkyard woods that turns out surprisingly really beautiful such as the cable drum that is made into a lounge-styled table for the skyjuice. In a nutshell, everything is kept to be simple and echt- epitome of a real coffee-centric establishment.

Signature Blend
Brazil, Papua
New Guinea, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe and Indonesia

Tasting notes:
smooth chocolate, raisins, dried figs, caramel and overtones of tangerine.

The profile is smoother due to Ethiopian, floral and fruitiness

Cappuccino

Macchiato

The second blend happens to my personal preference, Black Owl Blend.

Brazil and Columbia

Tasting notes:
delightful aroma of chocolate and honey. Sweet acidity, malty characteristics, deep balance and bold syrupy mouth feel.

This 2 region blend boast a more nutty and chocolaty aftertaste

Each cup of Joe served here are measured precisely for consistency in sizes, where each grinded coffee beans would be first weighted to that desired amount before start brewing you espresso shot. Once you have got these items in orderly checked; Skill + Grinder + Coffee Machine + Milk, you’re off to a good start!

Coffee drinking is a serious affair here, where it is encouraged to slowly enjoy and sip you coffee as it is, without any soya milk (as that kills the coffee aroma), skimmed milk or syrup. Of course, thorough appreciation of black coffee is not achieved overnight, so am still holding on to my milk-based latte if not cold drip at times (= Some 3D Kitty art for your latte perhaps? It's all imported from Japan

And pairing it with sandwich (whether toasted or original), is a good idea too.

The best time recommended to have coffee is between 0930 to 1130 in the morning for that’s the prime time for the coffee to help boosts up energy level, or 1330 to 1800 later of the day. However, it’s still very much depends on individual. Not advised to have it at night as caffeine needs up to 8 hours for it to digest properly, unless you’re prepared to guard throughout the night, haha…..

Do you know that Nordic countries like Norway, Finland and Iceland score one of the highest coffee drinkers in the world? Voila! ^^ Currently the most expensive coffee is crowned by Black Ivory which costs up to $50 for a cup, or two, if you’re lucky enough, due to its scarcity.

With passion, you’ll find good quality coffee that leads to your very own specialty coffee which eventually creates a memorable and personalized coffee experience.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤Location: E-01-02, Block E, Plaza Mont Kiara, NO.2, Jalan Mont’Kiara, 50480

SAN NAE DEUL BBQ BISTRO Smile Sep 29, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Restaurant

Anyeonghaseyo!

오늘 날씨가좋아!

It’s such a beautiful day!

Having been in operation for nearly 2 years now, San Nae Deul BBQ Bistro has been greeting the palates of the Klang Valley folks with enticing and scrumptious BBQ buffet set, especially those in the vicinity of Damansara Perdana. It’s the first outlet to introduce such concept of Korean ala buffet BBQ at a truly irresistible price!Currently, the Korean BBQ restaurant is maneuvered by two affable chaps, Sun and Sam, who both share a mirthful of palsy-walsy camaraderie over sumptuous food in particular. Indeed two great pals with unfeigned chemistry.  You might be wondering who are these two gentlemen seemingly enjoying their meaty feast al fresco way while relishing in each other’s chumminess. They are none other than the aforementioned gleeful souls of San Nae Deul, who are reveling in their delish array of repast of their hardwork while enjoying the beautiful day with Mother Nature. The lads with a cordial disposition are seen really enjoying the companion of each other.

Priced at only MYR 39++ for lunch and MYR 45++ for dinner, this is indeed a steal! Diners could choose from the relatively large menu options of various Korean traditional dishes as well as assorted meat cuts of different marinades. I particularly love their gochujang and special house sauce, simply executed with inhouse recipe but taste stellar! Recommended ways to enjoy the barbeque meat as suggested by SAN NAE DEUL:

Heat control is very important during the process of grilling the meat. Reduce the heat when both sides of meat are cooked in order to maintain its juiciness

Relish in the All-You-Can- Eat Korean ala carte BBQ buffet from ……………

LA GALBI (LA BEEF RIB)

SAMGYEOPSAL (GRILLED SLICED PORK)DAEPAE SAMGYEOPSA (BAMBOO GRILLED SLICED PORK)

GOCHUJANG SAMGYEOPSAL (GRILLED SLICED PORK IN KOREAN SPICY SAUCE)

DWAEJI GALBI (PORK SPARE RIBS MARINATED IN HOUSE SAUCE)

BUSUT SAMGYEOPSAL (GRILLED SLICED PORK WITH MUSHROOM)

Our friend here is doing a pretty good job, isn't it? (=

DWAEJI JUMULEOK (SEASONED PORK)

……… to

O-SAM BULGOGI (SQUID & PORK BULGOGI)

Further tantalize your taste bud with Korean snack and other side dishes.MODEUM CHICKEN (ASSORTED CHICKEN OF FRIED CHICKEN AND SEASONED SPICY CHICKEN- YANGMYEOM CHICKEN)

PAJEON (GREEN ONION PANCAKE)

One of the best and fuss-free nosh of the day, tastily flavourful and a hit among the foodies. The pairing dipping was very appetizingly tart that goes well in enhancing the subtle savory of the pancake.

TTEOKBOKKI (SPICY STIR-FRIED RICE CAKE)

In case you’re up for some hot challenges, take up this Mafia way for the extra hot version, hehe (Of course we requested ours one to be toned down version, keke)

JAPCHAE (NOODLES WITH SAUTÉED VEGETABLES)

DOLSOT BIBIMBAP (MIXED RICE WITH VARIOUS VEGGIES IN STONE POT)

KIMCHI JIGAE

HAEMUL SUNDUBU (SOFT TOFU WITH SEAFOOD)

Comes with loads of fresh myriad of seafood that help sweetened up the soup nutritiously. Recommended one! Yum yum! Not forgetting to top up a minimal amount for the chilling drinks too.

BOKBOONJA JUICE (MYR 5)

DEMISODA APPLE/ ORANGE (MYR 5 each)

Or some smoothies perhaps? ^^

PINA COLADA (MYR 13)

Pineapple and coconut smoothie

Overall, it was another notable Korean feast where meat dishes are of concerned. All poultry was thoroughly marinated and thoughtfully deboned for some cases, and the authenticity of a Hangul eumshik flavor ought have, was gladly preserved, hence satisfyingly toothsome. It’s a great place for meat lovers to enjoy and fix their carnivorous craving at such a bargain, with freshness and qualities are reassured. Drop by one of these days and don’t forget to try out the uber awesome Haemul Sundubu, jinnja masshisoyo! Loving it to the last sip, slurps……..

Cheers for now and Carpe Diem! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

SOP Smile Sep 29, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Bar & Pub

SOP which stands for Same Old Place, is one western bar-cum-restaurant that seemingly serves up a pretty wide range of toothsome hot dishes, apart from being more familiarly known for its premium array of exclusive beers, liqueurs and whisky labels among lounge aficionados.

Embarked stylishly like any other gastropub with the option to dine in comfortably within air-conditioned enclave or al fresco choice, SOP kitchen is currently helmed by Chef Hong together with a team of resourceful crews like Michael and KG-the inhouse mixologist, just to name a few.

Chequered table cloth is always an ideal choice when it comes to living up to the swank modishness and sleek lineament, with soothing green plants to mellow out the cement-wooden architecture. Imagine when your weary eyes also get to feast visually in a placid mood when sipping your favorite beer sensuously. How blissful is that!

For late risers, SOP breakfast or brunch is available from 10am to 2pm.

AMERICAN BREAKFAST WITH SCRAMBLED EGGS (MYR 9.90)

Served with conventional continental selections like bacons, flavorfully sautéed mushrooms and smooth scrambled egg, it’s certainly a hearty grubs offered at an unbeatable price!

Minus out the slightly briny eggs, the toasts are great, crispy and buttery, just like any homey breakie that you could look forward to, accompanied with some healthy garden salad.WILD MUSHROOM SOUP (MYR 13.90)

If you are looking for that thick and chunky bite of creamy consistency, you might want to give this a pass, unless soupy type is your cup of tea, or soup, in this case (= Nevertheless, the funghi aroma is tastefully palatable.

SEAFOOD AGLIO OLIO (MYR 23.90)

Extra virgin olive oil, chilli, garlic, tiger prawn, mussels, clams, fish and scallops.

Pasta is done al dente and springy to the tastebud alongside some zesty spices and fresh seafood accompaniment.

CRISPY PORK KNUCKLE (MYR 67.90- APPRX 1 KG)

Pork knuckle served with granny’s mashed potato, Bavarian coleslaw, homemade Bavarian sauerkraut and black pepper sauce.

An irresistible meaty cut that boasts a mighty 1000-gram serving of pork knuckle that takes centre stage between some truly delish homemade mashed potato and house own made sauerkraut- which we think would suit most local taste bud here compared to the traditional German recipe. The sourish pickled cabbage comes lightly tart with hint of vinaigrette-like fermented aroma and brilliantly paired with the peppery gravy.

ROSEMARY LAMB RACK SERVED WITH MASHED POTATO (MYR 28.90)

Juicy lamb rack grilled to right tenderness served alongside mushy potatoes. Would be better if the meat is much more thoroughly marinated with spice to subdue the gamey taste, unless you are the type who enjoys the natural lamb meat flavours.

CHOCOLATE LAVA (MYR 17.90)

Diners should not leave SOP without this noteworthy dessert, which is extremely well
executed with the prerequisite of dense from the inside to the softer exterior. The molten chocolate filling literally melts out liberally upon cutting in and goes remarkably good with the vanilla scoop. The exterior texture of this chocolate lava here is tad special as I find it bit thin and flaky, hence tastes light to the tastebud without feeling overly sinful. Thumbs up!

Complete the meal fantastically with the much celebrated cheers of the day!

SAPPORO (MYR 23- HALF PINT)

Sapporo- the oldest beer brand in Japan, was first brewed in Sapporo, Japan in 1876.
With lush use of aroma hops, Sapporo Premium has an amazingly crisp taste, refreshing flavor and refined bitterness, to leave a clean finish. Whether in iconic Silver Can that is long loved by American fans, or on tap, Sapporo premium can be enjoyed on any occasion. Sapporo has undoubtedly earned its place as No.1-selling Asian beer in the United States.

BITBURGER (MYR 23- HALF PINT)

Germany’s No.1 Draft Beer brand ~ “Bitte ein Bit”Note first the bright, fresh golden color and rich frothy head so typical of this elegant Pilsner beer. Its refined herbal notes are delicately poised, followed by a nutty and honeyed aftertaste. The overall impression of this gently sparkling beer is one of deep harmony, with the unmistakable bitterness of the hops balanced and contained by an agreeable, mellow sweetness in the body.

ABSINTHE MOJITO (MYR 32 ++)

More than a shot of absinthe, rum, brown sugar, lime wedge with 8 to 10 mint leaves and crushed ice.

So much so I always love my Mint Mojito, be it virgin or alcoholic based, this creative twist of absinthe with the ubiquitous mojito has taken the crown over and touted as the crème de la crème in my personal cocktail gastro-media. It’s so much more beguiling and tastefully appealing. Again, it could be a girl’s thing for it comes with tad sweetness, just like how I enjoy my sweet wine (=KG is so boldly inspiring! Much gracias!

Another pleasant vibrant surprise for this summer, from KG, aptly themed as………

MY SUMMER

A beautiful concoction of Triple sec, Malubu Rum and half vodka shot with various citrusy fruits- cubes of oranges and strawberries and lime slices. Simply enticingly presented!

Only limited portion is available daily and upon special request to KG ya (=

So what are you waiting for? Head over now for your little surprises from the cheeky bartender and you are bound to be smitten pleasurably.

Cheers for now and Carpe Diem! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

DUBUYO Smile Sep 29, 2015
Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

Anyeonghaseyo!

That’s the most common greeting that you would first come across whenever stepping into any Hanguk shiktang. Staying true to its heart and soul of Korean flair, DubuYo (previously known as Dubu Dubu) has currently just graced the new Quill City Mall in town with array of wholesome Korean recipes from delish Ramyeon, silky Sundubu Jigae to crowd’s favourite Dol Sot Bibimbap.

Unlike the conventional Korean restaurant, DubuYo is set up as a pork-free establishment, so all the food could be equally enjoyed by all walks of life as its meat produce are sought from a Halal supplier.

With an enticing menu revolving around urban food utopia of Korean cuisine with a fusion twist catch, as seen in some of the dishes which we shall review later. Dubu Dubu which essentially means tofu in Korean, aims to live up to the ideal destination for enthusiastic food lovers to taste harmony in a bowl, allowing them to experience distinct relishes of modern Korean food closer to home. The lunch sets offered here are very wallet-friendly too, starting from just MYR 11 nett! Guests could dine in anytime to enjoy scrumptious Korean fare within a cozy and brightly lit environment that is vibrantly immersed with its trademark of red and blue theme.

Assorted banchan of the day.

COLD SHIKYE (MYR 8) Traditional Korean Rice Punch

KIMCHI SOONDUBU JIGAE WITH SEAFOOD (MYR 20.75-ala carte/ MYR 23.10- set)

Each sundubu dishes is served with 3 banchan dishes of the day and a bowl of rice, with the option to have chicken or beef broth. Aptly touted as the epitome of a satisfying homey and soothing meal.

CHEESE SOONDUBU JIGAE SEAFOOD (MYR 20.75- ala carte/ MYR 23.10- set)

A rather tempting plate of light milky broth, these cheese-enriched stew seems to be much more palatably that somehow brings out more flavor from the seafood. Call it the cheeky yet appealing marriage of East and West rendition.

As for the Korean Gogi category, each set comes with 3 banchan dishes of the day, rice and soup.

HONEY MUSTARD WINGS (MYR19.60- ala carte/ MYR 23.10- set)

Crunchy and crispy deliciousness glazed in sweet, tangy goodness

KOREAN SPICY WINGS (MYR19.60- ala carte/ MYR 23.10- set)

Dubu Dubu’s version of Korean Fried Chicken

Coming up next are some delish plates of Urban Favorites to whet your palate interestingly. Each set comes with 3 banchans of the day with a bowl of soup.

HONEY GARLIC BEEF BULGOGI (MYR 21.90- ALA CARTE/ MYR 24.25)

A Seoul favourite filed with delicious grilled meats infused with Dubu Dubu honey garlic sauce. One recommended dish for its uber juiciness and tender laces of meat, enhanced with the subtle sweetness of honey garlic, masshisoyo!

DOL SOT BIBIMBAP WITH CHICKEN (MYR 19.60-ala carte/ MYR 21.90- set)

Took to be the soul food for most people, one would never go wrong with this Korean staple food where a colourful assembly of assorted veggies and healthy toppings are beautifully arranged to fill up your tummy warmly. A choice of chicken or beef to go with.

However, I would be a happier jeune fille if I could have the egg cracked raw atop the assemblage, if not more runny for that silken nuance when mixed all together evenly in the hot stone pot that will eventually cooks up the egg.

SPICY SEAFOOD RAMYEON (MYR 19.60- ala carte/ MYR 21.90- set)

Springy ramen noodles cooked in a choice of chicken broth or beef broth.

SPICY TOPPOKKI (RICE CAKE) (MYR 17.30- ala carte/ MYR 18.45- set)

Strips of chewy Korean rice cake cooked in savory-spicy sauce to kill any hunger pangs in between, which is why this snack is a hit among Korean street food goers.

PAJEON (MYR 13.35- ala carte/ MYR 14.50- set)

This Korean Pancake definitely makes a good snack and sharing platter. Lightly pan-fried till crispy on the crust while remaining soft within. Thumbs up!

CITRON DUBU (MYR 10.30)

A healthier version of Asian-styled ‘crème brulee’, this inventive creation is dished up with velvet bean curd that is topped with fruity drizzles of Korean citron rinds, which adds sweet-sourness to this dessert alongside some brown sugar syrup.

Fancy a hearty choice of toothsome and fuss-free Korean delights? Then head over to DubuYo to try out their fascinating harmonious Korean flavours using the freshest ingredients to enliven your taste buds tastefully for a gleeful dining experience.

Cheers for now and Carpe Diem! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤
