LA CASA Smile Oct 22, 2015

Welcome home!

Indeed, this is what La Casa literally exudes the moment you step into this quaint, cozy establishment that specializes in Western and Italian flairs, gracing the expatriate-centric neighbourhood at Verve Suites, Mont Kiara over a year ago.

Embarked with a multi-faceted design of wooden fixtures and quirky furnishings completes with warm lightings, La Casa certainly lives up to a relaxing enclave to unwind within its comfy confines of spacious 1,900 sq ft interior and a 500 sq ft alfresco dining area.

Replete with eye-catching throw pillows and olde-worlde bookshelves filled up with bottles of assorted relishes and ceramic stacks, there is no reason why this homey establishment not going to lure you over to dine and drink splendidly especially with their awesome breakfast menu!

Not so hipster but more on cozy environment with comfort food.

Unique and enchanting chairs adorned with some curlicue element.

Befitting its name which means The House, most of the food here are inhouse prepared from scratch and sourced from the freshest ingredients without any MSG or preservatives by all means. May, the founder of La Casa, is a true advocate of eating real food and live well. After all, you are what you eat, ain't you?

Let’s check out what we sampled the other day to kick start our morning fantastically!

GRANOLA MUESLI WITH YOGURT (MYR 22)

Healthy homemade muesli consists of toasted grain, nuts, seeds and dried fruits served with seasonal, fresh fruits, honey and housemade yogurt. The strawberries are especially very sweet and blend in well with all the yogurt-drizzled companions!

BREAKFAST GNOCCHI (MYR 28)

Homemade gnocchi with pesto, spicy Italian chicken sausage, egg cocotte and wild rocket with parmesan and balsamic dressing. The inhouse prepared wurst was definitely a star-stellar with its sapidity and chewy bites. Now I need not to worry about synthetic stuff whenever enjoying my fave sausages for I knew that the casing used to hold the homemade sausages here origins from natural source. Kudos!

ONE PAN BREAKFAST (MYR 32)

Comes with choice of homemade chicken, spicy Italian chicken or beef sausage, turkey bacon, roasted cherry tomatoes, baked beans, sunny side up, wild rocket and toast.

Your ubiquitous yet not so conventionally executed Continental breakfast, surely will win you over with its tastily done bouncy Italian chicken sausage and terrific salt & pepper sausage! My personal favourite goes for the original flavor, to be paired with the fragrantly sautéed mushrooms and juicy cherry tomatoes.

TRUFFLE SCRAMBLED EGGS WITH WAFFLES (MYR 23)

Truffle fans are in treat again!

Served with mesclum salad on the side, this innovative plate of truffled-infused scrambled egg comes well-armoured with very crispy waffle on the crust that uses special fold in method of meringue, rendering a very fluffy and buttery nuance. If the mushy egg could go tad easier on the sodium, it’s a brilliant recipe from La Casa undeniably!

BRIOCHE FRENCH TOAST (MYR 22)

Fluffy brioche served with caramelized apple, crispy popcorn, cream and maple syrup, easily makes it a lovely brunch!

BERRIES WAFFLES (MYR 20)

You can never go wrong with this- waffle with mixed berries, caramelized walnut, toasted almond flakes, cream and honey. Each bites of the freshly made waffle were truly engaging with its aromatic buttery hint. Optional to top up at only MYR5 for a dollop of homemade vanilla ice cream, slurps!

And now, we’re just in time to call in the dulcet treats for the sweet tooth.

SAINT HONORE ISPAHAN (MYR 15)

Pillowy-soft profiteroles filled with a light rose mascarpone cream, fresh raspberries and litchis.

LEMON TART (MYR 12)

Mini pastry shell filled with lemon cream topped with lemon zest and glaze. Expect a moist and piquant velvet custard engulfed within the buttery tart.

SWEET PLEASURES (MYR 14)

A dainty piece of layered chocolate and hazelnut praline, coalesced with milk chocolate ganache, and light chocolate mousse- bliss! It’s not overwhelmingly sweet but each morsel bits of this gateau is just sensuously gratifying with the varlhona richness and liberally transfused with hazelnut fragrance. Couldn’t ask for more with my fave choc brand in it, yumz.....

What’s better to complement the sumptuous gourmet spread other than a good cup of Joe?

And so coincidentally, bumped into a tomodachi whose aromatic coffee I’ve always enjoyed, Masa- san. It’s nice meeting you again! Arigato gozaimasta!

FLAT WHITE (MYR 11)

CAPPUCINO (MYR 11)

LATTE (MYR 11)

PICCOLO LATTE (MYR 11)

On top of expanding its current offerings, La Casa is also going versatile by looking into streamlining their takeaway and corporate catering service too.

So pop by one day at the new abode of La Casa, especially if you are one epicurean who
enjoy a quiet dining in the perfect mood-setting atmosphere of this hidden gem at the commercial hub of Verve Suites Mont Kiara.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

COFFEE ME DARLING Smile Oct 22, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Café | Desserts

Having a hard time choosing between coffee or me, darling? (=

Now you need not be in this dilemma again as you could hit two birds with one stone over here at COFFEE ME DARLING, spending some precious and yummy time with your loved ones.

Nestled at the ever briskly neighbourhood of SS2, Coffee Me Darling sets forth with its unique twist of Asian fusion fare that somehow will open up your mind inquisitively while having an enjoyable savoring time within its cozy confines. This café is the brainchild of Alex who aspires to serve up a homey array of tantalizing dishes that are close and familiar to our local tastebuds, whilst spicing it up by injecting some creative Western tweaks to it.

And the coffee brewing station is helmed by a skillful barista who has crafted his name in the coffee scene after being crowned as champion at the recent latte art throw down tournament. Well, let’s adjourn the coffee stories a little while to make way for what’s fresh and tastefully been prepared from the kitchen first.

CAULIFLOWER SOUP – MYR9.90

Something new and interesting here. Instead the usual broccoli or pumpkin soup, our palate is pleasantly amused by this light and savoury veggie soup.

WILD MUSHROOM SOUP – MYR9.90

Or traditionalist, there is still tasty mushroom soup available for you.

BIG BREAKFAST – MYR21.90

Have a choice from either sunny side up, scrambled or poached egg, to be paired with Vienna sausage, turkey ham, beet bacon or smoke salmon to make a wholesome plate to kick start your day nutritiously.

TENGKU TAN BENEDICT – MYR15.90

Somewhat newfangled way of serving the crowd’s favourite egg Benedict, seated atop loads of fragrantly sautéed mushrooms, drizzled with hollandaise alongside fresh greens.

EGG IN A BASKET – MYR12.90

Temptingly encased in the middle within a fluffy loaf slice that when put together provides a delectable nuance of soft-gooey texture. Somehow reminds me of the sinful but yummy Croque Monsieur too, hehe.

TURKEY HAM CARBONARA – MYR21.90

Fettuccine is decently done al dente and served in mild creamy carbonara sauce, add on with saporous pieces of turkey ham. Light and not overly creamy.

MINESTRONE SOUP WITH PENNE – MYR12.90

Now your soup no longer a lone ranger anymore (=

Have it appetizingly now with penne pasta together with the sweet-sour minestrone soup. I find myself kinda enjoy this bowl of soupy pasta rather than with the usual macaroni. It’s not spicy thus children-friendly too.

THE IKAN PERCIK WITH LEMONGRASS PILAF RICE – MYR22.90

A healthier version of percik recipe I would say. The fish fillet was nicely grilled till perfection without any obvious charred part, while remaining juicy within. The portion was rather huge as reflected in the thickly cut slab of meat, making it a worthwhile selection.

GRILLED CHICKEN WITH OREGANA MUSHROOM SAUCE – MYR21.90

For the poultry fans, don’t forget to leave the café without trying this tenderly grilled chicken, dished up toothsomely with mushrooms, broccoli and potatoes as sides. The meat was thoroughly marinated that it tasted good even by itself without any sauce.

LOTUS ROOT CHIPS WITH WATCH CURRY – MYR8.90

Another recommended bites would be this brilliantly done lotus roots that are deep fried to perfection. Thin and crispy natural root chips that are fried till golden brown and ready to be served hot from the kitchen with light sprinkles of salt. Should you prefer some heavier taste, you could always help yourself with the promising watch curry dipping that surely will get you hooked on for more!

Chilled beverages come just in time to clear down the throat after he scrumptious feast.

WENSBERRY BLISS (MYR 13.90)

STRAWBERRY LEMON SLUSH (MYR 12.90)

Voila, soon it’s coffee time!

Coffee Me Darling currently is using a Java Sumatra blend that is of medium-dark roasted, to present diners a pleasant palate of medium body, with less acidity, fruity and nutty profile. All coffee served here are of ristretto, good news? ^^

CAFÉ LATTE (MYR 10)

TAUFUFA COFFEE (MYR 12.90)

Finally found another creative twist for tau fu fa. This time not in dessert but with coffee (=

MATCHA LATTE (MYR 10.90)

CAPPUCINO (MYR 10.90)

This doughnut dome cuppa is only available exclusively here yea! Get ready to slurp in the smooth and velvet foam, nyummm………………

Was lucky to have a quick crash coffee course with the affable barista, Ian! Thanks very much for you guidance! Guess now I have more confidence in pulling my cup of latte art for a better improvised attempt next round!

Pretty cool huh? Hehe

Ah, what’s missing? Dessert you say? Hehe

Fret not, as the meal would definitely be wrapped up on a sweet note for that memorable dining darlingly………

SMORES DIP (MYR 15.90)

Wow! After barbequed smores, now let’s try flambeaud smores instead.

Certainly the ideal way to melt your lover’s heart, no? =)

So folks, remember to check out this place with your buddies soon, be it boyfriend and girlfriend, mummy and daddy or just your usual culinary partner(s)-in-crime, for a wonderful and sweet coffee, me & darling session!

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe
Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

CHEQUERS Smile Oct 22, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Café | Burgers / Sandwiches | Sweets/Snack

Do you ever curious to find out if there is any cafes or eateries that is literally soulfully dedicated to waffle delights as their cartes du jour? Now you could satisfy your craving for this lovely and fluffy pastry over here at the quaint waffle house of Chequers, located at the ever lively neighborhood of TTDI.

Serving mainly American-inspired
dishes with waffle as their signature, be it on a sweet or savoury
note. The theme is also embodied throughout their interior design which welcomes
the patrons with versatile decoration of squarish boxes that resembles waffles
as well as numerous scenic paintings hanging at the wall, reminiscing the daily
lives of the folks in the United States.

Chequers KL aims to serve up a hearty array of not only good, tasty American staples, but also comfort food to your soul. Most of the sauces are deliciously made inhouse which includes the lip-smacking curry mayo which we enjoyed promisingly during the tasting session and several other noteworthy relish creations too. Over here, your usual ubiquitous main meals are innovatively substituted with house-specialty- soft waffles, all get executed alluringly as your ‘burger’, ‘sandwich’, ‘toastie’, dessert plate like Tiramisu too and many more. On top of that, Chequers also serve up a wholesome rendition of poultry recipes that are equally delightful to the taste bud.

Let’s have a quick rundown of the highlighted recommendations from the kitchen of Chequers KL!

DOWN HOME BENNY – MYR19.00

Savory waffle, beef bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, guacamole and watercress salad, beautifully garnished and interesting served than the usual Egg Benedict breakfast you see elsewhere.

MOO MOO – MYR28.00

Their signature waffle burger made with seasoned striploin beef patty seared to perfection. Served with homemade berry barbeque sauce, beef bacon, cheddar cheese, raisin slaw, and pickled relish. Comes with waffle fries too.

DOUBLE DECK CROQUE MONSIEUR – MYR18.00

Savory waffle, turkey ham and tomato wrapped with egg, served with cheese sauce, topped with a sunny side up- just the usual scene you would see any American enjoying their fave toastie!

CHICKEN COBB SANDWICH – MYR25.00

Now we have savory waffle sandwiching the marinated grilled chicken, beef bacon, sliced tomato, boiled egg, guacamole, curry mayo and waffle fries, for a change of tender chicken meat too.

MANGO SHRIMP WRAP – MYR23.00

Sautéed tiger prawns wrapped with marie rose sauce, tomato salsa, fresh mango and lettuce, comes with waffle fries. Light and wholesome! Love the sweetness that got exuded by the mango bits in between while chewing the juicy prawns, slurps!

POMODORO PASTA – MYR16.00

Fettucine topped with a savoury Pomodoro sauce, cherry tomato, basil and black olives, served with succulent chicken thigh meat and luscious bacon streaks!

PESTO SEABASS – MYR34.00

Pan seared seabass cooked to perfection on a bed of pesto sauce. Served with seasoned roasted potatoes and stir fried asparagus topped with crispy ginger.

MELTING MOMENTS – MYR17.00

Chocolate chip waffle hand battered banana fritters, almond nibs, vanilla ice cream drizzled caramel and chocolate sauce. However, the bananas fritter is tad oily to my liking, other than that, i really enjoyed them.

TROPIC COCONUT – MYR17.00

Coconut waffle, fresh coconut meat, roasted almonds, coconut ice cream, fragrant pandan sauce.

This was really terrific and no qualms was my best dessert pick of the day!

DECONSTRUCTED TIRAMISU – MYR14.00

Disassembled into waffle sticks, mascarpone cheese with chocolate shavings and a side of espresso shot. Definitely not your average joe- as opposing to the usual crowds, where tiramisu is served only in a cup or cake.

Now is the perfect time to down the meal with some good cup of coffee. Currently brewing fresh from the La Cimbali is the primo quarto- a balanced blend of Indonesia Mandheling, Papua New Guinea, Brazil and Ethiopian. Greet your palate with a smooth, aromatic body, and ends with a robust, nutty aftertaste.

MOCHA (MYR 12)

LATTE (MYR 10)

MATCHA LATTE (MYR 12)

I particularly enjoyed their house smoothies, which uses real nutritious yogurt to be blended with fresh fruits of your choice. Am glad that there is no ice creams blended miserably in my beverage but just a pure toothsome healthy yogurt drink. Available at MYR 13 each.

BERRY BERRIES

MANGO
MANIA

It was definitely a ‘food-full’ or a rather ‘waffle-full’ night that everyone went back with a happy tummy in addition to newly-acquired culinary twist that certainly would tickle the taste buds amusingly. Remember to check this place out for a delish and homey meal with family members and buddies alike.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ❤ℒℴѵℯ❤

PINCE & PINTS Smile Oct 22, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Seafood

After its first reputable flagship in metropolitan Singapore a year ago, PINCE
& PINTS has now made lobster delectation a much more easier and affordable affair for us here over at Bangsar Telawi, a well-known spot for riveting smorgasbord of gastronomic delights. Serving classic and contemporary lobster dishes, Pince & Pints Restaurant and Bar is the definitive destination for lobster bar quintessentially, offering freshly succulent and quality lobsters at accessible prices.

Decking out with a swanky 1,500 sq ft interior and multi-faceted chicness of 55-seater, this prestigious lobster epicureanism is set to wow bon vivants of Klang Valley over for its immaculately poised cartes do jour which served up to only 5 lobster-centric menus, along with motley of time-honoured wines, beers, house-special cocktails and other alluring beverages alike. This underlines Pince & Pints dedication in doing lobster right, hence the compact lobster specialty bill of fare in 5 sensational ways- a first-of-its-kind concept in Kuala Lumpur.

Each lobsters come at an average 600g – 650g, freshly wild-caught and flown directly all the way from Boston and Maine. Upon arrival to Malaysia, those crustaceans would be first kept at a state of the art cool-temperature sea tanks before get transferred and dwelled at their new home at Bangsar outlet. The live lobster would then be adeptly handled and culinary crafted by experienced chefs upon order, thus guarantees a truly lobster indulgence unfeignedly. More top-notch logistic assurance by Pince & Pints here: http://bit.ly/1MWTaTK

Let’s check out what’s instored for you by the lobster maestro to titillate the discerning palates of yours.

THE LOBSTER ROLL

Hearty chunks of fresh lobster meat tossed in mayonnaise and salt, stuffed in a ‘top-split’ homemade bun, and served with straight-cut fries with skin, garlic aioli and house salad. The bun itself is already a humble enjoyment, boasts with rich buttery fragrance, apart from the engaging bites of lobster meat.

LOBSTER NOODLES (exclusive to Pince & Pints KL only)

Large chunks of shell-on lobster, wok-fried with scallions and ginger in a lightly seasoned sauce atop freshly homemade egg noodles, and served with chili oil. This homey yet gracefully illustrated local’s favorite fare, boasts a very flavourful sapidness that is simply scrumptiously reassuring with its sweet oceanic taste.

CHILI LOBSTER WITH MANTAO

A homage to its Singaporean roots, a special house blend chili gravy envelopes a whole portion of fresh lobster and is served with a side of mantao, a.k.a. fried buns, the perfect Oriental pillow to soak up the mouth-watering sauce. This bounteous pot would definitely triumphs among spicy-food enthusiasts for that unmistakable mild kick of tempting hotness.

WHOLE LIVE LOBSTER (STEAMED OR GRILLED)
A whole portion of lobster, steamed or grilled to perfection, and ready to be dunked on the house specially made herbed butter sauce, served with straight-cut fries with skin and house salad.

Steamed Whole Live Lobster

Grilled Whole Live Lobster

For those who enjoy some smoky hint, ideally the grilled version would suit you more.

As for purist who enjoys their food au naturel way, then the juicily steamed interpretation surely warms the cockles of your heart. It’s literally bursting in juice once you bite in. I really revel in the firm texture yet succulent nuance that easily gets me hooked on for more. Double thumbs up!Steamed Whole Live Lobster

All food items on the menu are priced at a standard MYR 158++, and every dish comprises of a whole lobster portion.

So after the Pince, where is the Pints? (=

Fret not, be prepared to relish exuberantly in the enticing potpourri of drinks selection, be it handcrafted mocktails, cocktails, artisanal beers or boutique wines from all over the world.

In times of such fast-paced life the metropolis is riding now, it’s not easy to really find hearty, wholesome dishes that are deliciously served while keeping prices reasonable and yet raising the bar in terms of freshness and inventiveness. Unless you have a bigger budget to indulge in daily, most city folks would resort to fast food as the current world dictates everything to be speedy execution from food preparation to work. Thankfully, there is once café that actually takes the pain of cooking from scratch everyday so to live up to the motto of eating fresh and staying healthily. Residing along one of the many busy streets of TTDI is the home for CAFE LAFAYETTE, which has been gracing the neighbourhood early this year. Founded by a passionate and whimsical entrepreneur-cum-barista, his shrewd wittiness is reflected in both his culinary menu as well as decoration of the interior itself.

Securing either a dim and cozy lighting at one corner or a romantic set up perfect for some vis-à-vis session at the other nook, both absolutely makes a comfy dining of this Italian fusion-stemmed concept establishment.

Most sauce are inhouse made, aptly acknowledged for the effortfully work of heart and soul, whereby the sauce is only freshly made upon order, unlike the common commercial way which most would prepare the sauce in bulk quantity beforehand. Hence creating the balanced nuance, perfecting the overall taste in each dishes. Even the pesto sauce is also freshly blended from basil leaves. This definitely deserves a great kudos!

All coffee here are served double shot- medium roasted house blend with mild fruity body of Tanzanian and Sumatra.

For appetizer, you could start off with…………

FRIED MOZZARELLA (MYR 12.90)

MUSHROOM RISOTTO (MYR 15.90)

Italian mixed herbs with mushroom risotto using Swiss cream. Good stuff here and highly recommended!

SALMON SPAGHETTI (MYR 18.90)

Chunky bites of salmon cubes with tomato puree and olive oil in a light creamy gravy.

PESTO DI SALMON (MYR 24.90)

This has got to be my favourite as compared to the tomato gravy type, for its lighter and less fishy taste. Springy pasta is done al dente, and generously mixed with the fragrant green herbs.

HAWAIIAN CHICKEN CHOP (MYR 19.90)

A huge slab of meat served bounteously with savoury gravy, pleasing bites of mashed potato to go with the thoroughly marinated succulent chicken meat, and garden salad as sides.

RETROMARCIA  CORDON BLEU FISH (MYR 26.90)

Love the uber juicy and moist fish. It was cleverly executed that if I wasn’t been told, I wouldn’t have known it was a Dory for the fish meat is toothsomely marinated with herbs. Good camouflage but a pleasantly surprise one!

Up and coming new dishes for weekend grubs!

BALSAMIC MUSHROOM BEEF (MYR 24.90)

Beef pan fired with button mushroom, oyster mushroom, onion and balsamic vinegar and served with mashed potato and croissant.

Using specifically tenderloin cut, diners get to savour a delectably juicy meat that is adequately soaked with the relish flavourfully alongside savory curry gravy. All in all, it creates a smooth composition and zestly appetizing with subtle tartness to the taste bud.

The croissant actually reminds me of the oriental fare- dipping mantou bun with curry like at Pince & PInts or any thick gravy at Tim Ho Wan, hehe.....

CHICKEN ROULADE (MYR 20.90)

Chicken rolled in sautéed mushroom, red pepper and onion, served with mashed potato and nachos.

Again, a heavy dosage of herbs is used to complement the sapid dish gracefully as well as tastefully too. The nicely rolled poultry is stuffed with assorted spiced fillings that lends a very vibrant and saporous hint, that goes really well with their inhouse prepared chunky mashed potatoes. I just can’t get enough of the mashed spuds! Hehe……………………….

BBQ CHICKEN TIKKA (MYR 20.90)

Spiced chicken grilled with green peppers, pineapples and onions, served with croissant.
Would be better if the pineapple cubes have been served more, for that engaging savoury-sweet bites!

After the delightful feast, time to clear the throat with some cooling beverage along some brilliant presentation of cup of Joe too (=

CHOCORUM (MYR 13)

One of my fave beverage pick!
