Chewy Ramen Smile Oct 15, 2012

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen/Udon/Soba

I was attracted by the bunting which stated ‘NO MSG, NO SOUP CONCENTRATES, NO ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURING’ when passing by the restaurant.

Without thinking much, I entered and took a seat at a corner table.

It was dinner time, the restaurant was quite full with customers. However, the service crew brought me a menu once I sat down and gave me an order sheet. There were several types of ramen (soup-based). Since I had a hard-boiled egg in the afternoon, I chose the one served without egg – Japanese Curry Ramen. There were options for the ramen types: flat or thin strands.

My Curry Ramen came with thin Ramen with minced chicken and little spring onion. Their homemade ramen was chewy and tender. The soup was flavourful though totally different from local curry noodle.

There were 10 condiments that could be dipped or seasoned as personal preferences. I tried to eat with everything and I found the original Curry Ramen was the best (no additional condiments needed).

I believed they did not use any MSG or preservative in cooking since I was not thirsty after finish the whole bowl of Ramen which I used to be. The only drawback was too little greens.

Salad Bar Smile Sep 19, 2012

I purposely went there for their sandwich not salad because I like their Ciabatta. The dining area was cosy with appetizing colour – Red. The staff was helpful in guiding me to take order when she saw me confused with their menu. Just take your order at the counter, pay the bill and get a seat to have your dish serve.
I chose a set with 1 sandwich, 1 salad and 1 juice (MYR13.50). My sandwich was L.V. (Let’s Veggie) Sandwich, came with fruit salad and orange juice.

The sandwich was a combination of pumpkin, capsicum, cucumber, tomato slices and iceberg lettuce. The only spread was tomato sauce. The natural sweetness from pumpkin was well matched with the sourness from tomato slices.

The fruit salad (diced watermelon and orange with iceberg lettuce) was refreshing. It is important to use fresh ingredients to make a salad and definitely can be found here. So I will come back for their salad next time.

A Let Down ThaiUp Cry Sep 07, 2012

I love hot and sour food. Since the Korean restaurant/cafe was full, I opted for Thai food. We chose to sit at the table facing the famous Siew Long Bao Chinese restaurant – Ding Tai Fung. Huh, how a nice reality show!

I ordered Pad Thai (MYR14.90), a popular fried rice noodle from Thailand; while my brother ordered their chef’s recommended dish – Mixed rice + Grilled chicken with Green curry sauce (MYR14.90).

My Pad Thai: Stir-fried rice noodle with LITTLE bean sprout, served with 1 blanched prawn and 2 slices of blanched squid, 1 teaspoon of chili flakes and 1 tsp of pounded peanuts. The rice noodle was stir-fried until sticky, not tasty and quite greasy. It was plain with little bean sprout only. The seafood was overcooked especially the squid was too rubbery!

For the rice set, the rice was fragrant with ginger and nice to eat with the coconut-based green curry gravy. The only complaint was the cooled and overcooked chicken (They did not reheat it properly or we waited too long for the cutleries to be brought?).

We were totally not satisfied to pay the 10% sluggish service charge. Firstly, the staffs ignored us but went to take order at the table next to us even we reached first. Secondly, they did not bring cutleries to us when serving food and we have to wait about 5 min for the cutleries. We definitely will not visit here again.

Taiwanese dessert Smile Sep 07, 2012   (Related Review)

Tough I did not enjoy the warm dessert yesterday, I came back again for a cold dessert since the 20% off promotion still available.

Other than serving cold and warm desserts, they do have deep-fried snacks. However, I preferred cold desserts more than hot fritters.

I ordered a cold soya series with taro balls, grass jelly and caramel pudding as toppings (MYR6.90).

I thought it was a soy-flavoured shaved ice. It was a cold soybean curd (Tofu Fa) with syrup and toppings. I like the caramel pudding very much! It was smooth and well-flavoured, a perfect match with cold soybean curd!

I would finish reading my magazine there if they could turn down the music volume (the music was too noisy for me). By the way, it would be added into my SS2 hang out list.

Fish Head Mee Hoon OK Sep 03, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

Since I work in a vegetarian café, I have been taking vegetarian dishes as my lunch and dinner during my working days. On my day off, I give myself a good treat to take meat or seafood. This week, I went to eat Fish Head Mee Hoon.

The staff brought me a menu and asked me to write down my order on the order sheet. Other than traditional Fish Head Mee Hoon, there are Tom Yam and fried style too. You can choose to be served with fish head, fish paste, squid balls or big prawn (Sang Har) or combination of them.

I wanted to order traditional one but once Tom Yam appeared on the menu, I couldn’t ignore it! I ordered Tom Yam Mee Hoon with Fish Head and Fish Paste (MYR8.90).

The Tom Yam was a tomato-base soup which had a strong tomato flavor. I enjoyed the soup though it lacked of sourness.

The Mee Hoon (vermicelli) they served was different from the one we normally have, with thickness as glass noodle, which gave a chewy and tender texture.

The fried fish was actually from the body part not fish head. The fish slice was deep-fried to retain the moistness. The fish pastes were not my cup of tea, simply because I didn’t like the taste and the texture.

However, it’s a good dish to supply your body with carb, protein and good antioxidants from tomatoes!
