Specialty dish OK Jun 03, 2013

The Cincaluk Platter consist of squid, prawn, and chicken marinated with cincaluk (made of fermented small shrimps or krill) and are deep fried until crispy brown. It was a dish that I think if those who couldn't take cincaluk may not like this dish even though it is a pretty safe (fried) food. Personally I find the platter is slightly too salty to my preference but that can be explain as cincaluk itself is heavy in flavor.

One of the specialty dish here at Tranquerah would definitely its dish using Keluak as the ingredient. You can't get such dish elsewhere and Keluak lover should really come forward to try it out. It was however my first time trying out Keluak and I couldn't really taste the Keluak (or maybe I don't know what it taste like). The Stir Fried Sweet Potato is not spicy too according to my preference but the vegetable is very well cooked.

One of Tranquerah signature dish would be Ayam Ponteh which has a thick aromatic gravy and rich in flavor. The chicken, potato, and mushroom is well cook and the chicken is moist and tender, the way a good chicken should be.

The Tenggiri is also one of my favor dish that night. The fish was fried till perfection where the outer layer is crispy and crunch leaving the inner meat succulent. It is good all by itself but the sauces that come with it actually enhance the flavor of the dish to next level.

Keluak Bendi is yet another dish that is made using Buah Keluak, a popular ingredient famous among the peranakan community. The reason why not many restaurant that uses this is because it required a lot of time and effort just to make the Keluak edible. The steam bendi is topped with specially made keluak sambal which again I didn't feel the presence of spiciness

Dining like a Dynasty  OK May 08, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot

When I first heard about a eatery place named Bird Nest Palace, can't help but wondering what kind of food they serves, what's more when I found out they are actually serving steamboat. Eventually I set my expectation to have a bird nest soup base on my dining experience there.

Strategically located at Damansara Perdana commercial centre and it is just opposite Tropics Mall / KK Mart. They are even having a promotion (as of 1st May 2013) of RM36.90 for 2 pax steamboat set. From the main entrance, it has this very Chinese ancient theme / deco and it does feel classy like a VIP. The inner dining area is however very jungle / forest set-up which is of course refreshing and soothing, like totally separated from the hectic world.

Moving on, the soup base I had that day was actually herbal soup and tomyam, they do have "Ma La" (Extra Spicy) soup base to choose from too. Do note that they don't serve individual pot here and everyone would be sharing the same pot.

The photo above shows the complete set you'll get on the promotion set of RM36.90 and as seen, you get more of fishball based along with squid, slices of fish, and prawn among other ingredient like fish noodle, mushroom, needle mushroom, tofu, assorted fishball / crab stick, sotong ball, fucuk and ton of cabbage.

There were also very limited condiment to go along with the food shall you need to boost the flavor. The herbal soup is pretty tasty on its own and guess it is safe to say that it wasn't MSG soup as I did not felt thirsty hours after consuming it. The Tomyam soup however were pretty mild in taste, not that spicy, and were full with residual that annoy my dining experience.

You may also order some side dishes as shown above and unfortunately I don't have the price range with me. Everything seem pretty ordinary and nothing special right up to this moment except for that abalone slice, it is very sweet and chewy like the texture of meat. Can't stop but to help myself with few slices of it to satisfy my crave. So why the name bird nest you may ask? Well the owner of Bird Nest Palace actually have been actively operating bird nest business. They may want to look into improving the steamboat set, not that it wasn't good, just that it wasn't outstanding enough to attract returning customer / attention. The only thing you can't find elsewhere is that you get to enjoy a warm and hearty pot of bird nest as dessert, provided you're willing to pay extra for that.

The Bird Nest Dessert cost RM40 per bowl and the price can be justify by the authentic process of preparation and the already pricey bird nest as part of the ingredient. In case you aren't aware, there are seller that use bleach to wash the bird nest so that it have the clean white look. Thankfully Bird Nest here is 100% breed and produce in-house, using only clean water to wash and finest cooking method to preserve the goodness like it should.
You will also notice the place is 'decorated' with bird nest and for a pace of mind, it is best to get your authentic & harm free bird nest here.

An Healthy Meal Smile Apr 23, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Vegetarian

Without me realizing, yesterday was Earth Day! Earth Day is celebrated on 22 April annually, and with such great celebration, what have you done to contribute back to planet earth? If you're not creative person like me but would still love to do something to make the world a better place, why not go Vegetarian on this special occasion next year? Or if you have strong will you can go green every once a week. The number of vegetarian restaurant within KV has indeed increased as compare to the past and it is also a good sign to indicate that more people is aware that we need to do something to save the world. Beside being a hero, it is also for the better health for our own.

Together Vegetarian Restaurant is one of the place where you get not only meatless dishes, but also dishes that uses less flour based ingredient. Many had the impression that going vegetarian means consuming more flour, which really depend on your choice while ordering. Anyway was invited by OpenRice.com to an exclusive food review at Together Vegetarian Restaurant (Puchong branch).

The restaurant offer a quiet and relaxing dining environment where you could really take your sweet time after a hectic rush from work and outside pressure. Theme wise there aren't much focus on that but just so you know, Together Vegetarian Restaurant do cater to wedding dinner and buffet catering at your designated location.

Shark's Fin Soup with Crab Meat
Without delaying much, here's the first dish we had for the night, Shark's Fin Soup with Crab Meat. Without informing, one might not even know this is vegetarian as it really assemble the real deal. It even have a similar taste to it simply because shark fin itself is tasteless and it is the soup that gave the strong flavour. It was as good as you've expect it to be. Thumbs up for the Shark's Fin Soup with Crab Meat. It has a thick and sticky texture. It too had a strong presence of herbal soup but if herbal isn't your cup of tea, you can always add in some vinegar to boost up the taste.

Fried Beancurd with Fresh Mushroom
Moving on to the Fried Beancurd with Fresh Mushroom, it was indeed drooling dish with specially made tofu that is soft on the inside, and fragrantly sweet on the outside. Its soft texture of the tofu taste really good all by itself and would definitely go for more.

Butter Abalone Mushroom
As sinful as it look, the Butter Abalone Mushroom offered a strong aromatic smell while served. It was deep fried with in-house specialty together with butter and curry leaf that gave it an extra strong flavour to it. Crispy as it get, the dish got snap up almost instantly upon being placed on the table, you can imagine how good it is.

Red Enzyme with Mushroom
The Red Enzyme with Mushroom is a dish where either you love it or your can't accept the strong enzyme taste of it. For me the enzyme taste is pretty strong till a point where all I can taste is nothing but enzyme only. It wasn't something within my preference but don't let that stop you from trying because enzyme benefits your health.

Asam Fish
Asam Fish as you may guess it, has a rather sour taste. The dish was pretty spicy too but the ingredient used to replace the fish was pretty soft and tender.

One of the highlight I was looking forward was the Curry Mutton with Bread. I could easily survive with nothing but just bread and curry, they are always the best married couple. The rendang like gravy is pretty thick and tasty but surprisingly wasn't spicy to my preference. The bun was slightly fried to have that crispy skin leaving the inner part fragrantly soft. Mushroom is used to replace the mutton of course and it was pretty hard to chew on.

Spinach in Herbal Sauce
Whether you're on a vegetarian day or not, you shouldn't forget the green vegetable. Spinach according to my understanding required alot of effort. A simple dish as such may look easy but the effort took to prepare one has to be very hectic. Thus kudos to Together Vegetarian Restaurant for not only serving spinach in its menu, but also serving it with a twist. I love how they mix herbal sauce to a simple dish giving that extra and unique flavour to it. Double thumbs up!

Sweet & Sour Fried Squid
Toward the end of the dining experience, we had surprise dish the sweet and sour fried squid. It was actually needle mushroom wrapped with a layer of dumpling skin, then another round with seaweed, deep fried and serves with sweet and sour sauce. The crispy crunch at the tip of the mushroom is delightful whereas the sauce gave in some extra flavour. There is also the presence of sesame but was easily overwhelm by the seaweed.

The Grand Palace Restaurant served chinese style food. Here the environment is very grand and comfortable and their services is good. This dish is Steam Tofu and Fish with Soya sauce. It is very special dish. The tofu is very smooth and soft, home made toufu and the taste is very light. The fish is cut in slide and fresh. The fish is very soft and nice to eat. There is garlic cook together, it make the fish taste more fresh. Overall, the taste is very light but sweet and fresh. It is very well presentation and appetizing me.

Chocolate Moist with Ice Cream Smile Aug 13, 2012

Categories : Western variety | Café

The chocolate moist here is an indulge from heaven. The dish is serves with 2 medium slice of chocolate brownies and is coated with thick and sticky layer of chocolate syrup and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with sprinkle of chocolate powder. The cake is very filling and pack where every bite is very satisfying without being over sweet. If only there were sprinkle of nuts on it, it would be superb. The only down side of this is that it is kinda messy but you wouldn't be worrying about that when having this.
