Not feeling brave enough to face the blazing heat on a Sunday afternoon in Bandar Baru Ampang, I decided to miss out on its more popularly known food places, and settle for lesser known, but no less yummy Restoran Han Han (涵菡五味馆). Clean, air-conditioned and with ample car parking outside its doors, HanHan is the perfect place for a hassle-free lunch away from the afternoon heat.I opted for their signature rice dishes which are usually topped with minced meat, two sides of vegetables and an egg.Do not be fooled by the humble appearance of this simple dish! I usually have doubts about pork belly because I get squeamish if the pork taste is too overwhelming or the fat is cooked to a gross solid jelly. But here at Han Han, the fat melts in your mouth while the meat is tender- execution PERFECT!

Meaty, savoury fried porkballs that could deliciously well be eaten on their own.And if you feel like chicken instead, try out the fried drumstick with rice which carries hints of ginger as you bite into the crisp skin.If you worry about the rice being too ‘dry’, not to fear because the minced pork actually has sauce which is dribbled through the rice. Yums! And if you aren’t the 饭桶 (rice bucket) like I am, they have a variety of noodles as well, from curry mee to pan mee.
I managed to try out their loh shi fun which was tasty, with enough of the taste of fire behind it (or claypot hei). I would have liked the egg to be runny instead of solid, but no matter because the juicy prawns were enough to distract me.The perfect drink to cool off in the sweltering heat- cucumber juice. I highly recommend this.Serving humble, unassuming food at reasonable prices that will not fail to satisfy:

Chicago Rib House is a restaurant where pork takes the center stage. Their tagline boasts that their rib house is built on Love, Peace and Bacon Grease.

This Chinese New Year, I had the opportunity to try out their more-than-affordable CNY Signature Platter.The plate was loaded with Grilled Freshwater Prawns, Grilled Mussels with Salsa, juicy Spare Ribs and vegetable sticks served with a creamy cheese dip. At RM39.90, this was a total steal! Seafood AND pork ribs, talk about value for money!

I would definitely return again to try their regular menu offerings.
