FOOD REVIEW ON THE ZUN EXPRESS OK May 12, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Porridge

When I was walking passed this restaurant, I always wonder about the price and whether it is good. Thanks to a friend's recommendation I decided to try it. There are few sets to choose for lunch and since I am curious about the Lotus leaf, I ordered Set B. It comes with few choice of drinks and dessert.

The menu at The Zun Express

interior of The Zun Express

lotus leaf rice

The rice is wrapped with lotus leaf which is presentation wise look appealing to me. I was glad that it is not small and look just like the photos. The rice is of medium texture and it is fragrant with the smell of lotus leaf. There is mince meat in it and it has a good portion for a big eater like me.

The Osmanthus Jelly

The Osmanthus Jelly is soft and it melted into my mouth. No bad and this is the first time I see restaurant use osmanthus to make dessert. I do like the taste and it is good thought that the waiter bring this the last as we were about to finish our rice. I bet it wouldn't taste good or cold enough if the desserts were brought in the same time as the lotus rice.

The green tea is not bad and luckily it is not the one with jasmine as I do not enjoy jasmine in my green tea.

Service is not bad and fast. The waiter is also courteous.

SET B

Lotus leaf Rice, green tea and Osmanthus Jelly RM18.80 per set

service tax of 10%

Government Tax 6%

So after adding it would be around RM23

Non Halal

Nice food and service Smile Oct 18, 2014
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

This is the restaurant that I will patron most of the time. The reason is because their food has the most value for money compare to other restaurant. The portion is big and the price is cheaper than the other Chinese restaurant available in Mersing. It is just next to Guardian.

This is a Chinese restaurant which is not Halal as they do have liquor and pork. If you see a closed sign, it means all the tables are full. Unless you are willing to wait outside which might take one hour for a table, then look for other restaurant. It is uncommon here as people here don't wait for table unlike in big cities.

When you enter, only seat at the table without pork or spoon as it indicate it is empty. Tables with pork, chopstick, plates and spoons on the table or different colour table colour clothes shows that the table is already reserved for someone.

I like that they have the table clothes as it looks neat and clean. It is fully air conditioned and there is also free wireless internet service. I think the decorations inside the restaurant are simple. This restaurant doesn't have a menu book but rest assured because the person who takes your order can speak and understand English. I always see other tourist coming into this restaurant for food.

What is good to eat here?

I would recommend going for their selection of dishes and not noodles as the comparison between their dishes and noodles are far. Their dishes are way far better than their noodles.

Bean curd in the clay pot

Bean curd in the clay pot is so fresh and crunchy. The vegetables is cooked just nice and the tofu was generous as the pot is fill up and enough for four person. The sauce is very fragrant and goes well with your rice. One can't help but keep on scoping the sauce up to the last drop.

kangkung

Love the kangkung with sambal belacan. I find the kangkung is cooked just nice. It is so crunchy that there is sound when I bite into it. The sauce with sambal belacan is just perfect to go with the rice and not too salty or watery. I think this is one dish that one should order if anyone wants to try the taste of Malaysian food. I love this very much and can't help but order this one every time I visit Mersing Seafood restaurant.

shark's meat with dry chilies

I ordered shark's meat with dry chilies as I prefer spiciness. You could ask for other suggestion considering that everyone may have special preferences or dislikes. The fish is very well cleaned and so the meat does not have any fishy smell. Usually, there will be too many dried chilies and onions but very little of meat in other restaurant. However, it is different here. There is a lot of the shark's meat and it is cooked just right because the meat retains it freshness and taste. I love this dish very much but this dish is not available all the time due to the weather and people here don't eat shark's meat.

A pot of chinese Tea RM3 (refillable with hot water)

Rice RM1 per plate

Bean Curd RM12

No sure about price of beer here.

FOOD REVIEW:LOADING BAY AT KLUANG Smile Oct 07, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta

This is a restaurant in Kluang. It is on the same row as KFC so it should not be hard to find.

This restaurant serves mostly western food and some cakes.

the interior of Loading Bay

The interior design is actually romantic so it is a good place for dating and also for meeting friends.

Service wise is good as the waitress can speak English and also recommend some of their famous dishes. No force or also imposing air and she would repeat the list of what we ordered for confirmation.

The portion of their food is quite big compared to what I imagined. The food is good and tasty. A good place for tea and cakes =) .

There is a lunch set which cost RM19.90 which is worth the money but since I arrived late, I don't get to order it.hahaha Well, arriving for tea is different.

mushroom soup

mushroom soup

The mushroom soup does has its own kind of right texture. It is not thick or too thin. The texture is just nice with fragrant smell of mushroom and there are bits of mushroom in the soup which further enhances the taste of the mushroom soup. The mushroom comes with the garlic bread and it is so crunchy and every bites is a moment of joy!

French fries

french fries

Frech fries are crunchy and not too salty. It is not too oily and portion is quite big given the price. It comes with tomato sauce.

mash potatoes

mash potatoes

The mash potatoes come with the sauce that is extremely yummy and the mash potatoes has the rough texture but will not get stuck in between teeth. I think it is really healthy and filling as they do not put any milk into it.

lamb Quesadillas

The main food is actually this lamb Quesadillas. It is really tasty and you could choose the type of meat, the sauce and the skin. It is hard for me to choose and knowing me, I would just choose original. The other type of skin is with onions. I love the sauce and the filling with melted cheese. There is no fat and the skin is so crunchy but no hint of being oily! The sauce is very nice and fragrant. It is scrumptious! Definitely suggest trying this dish out when you are there for tea. Don’t order too much as this is sure very filling. Looks can be deceiving so don't think that you would need to order ten plate of this to fill your stomach.

I am really thankful for the kind friend who brought me here.

Queadillas RM11.90

Homemade mushroom soup RM4.90

French fries

mash potatoes

Sorry I forgot the price of the French fries and mash potatoes but I think it is around RM4- RM6 . I lost the receipt when I was rushing back.

***Price subject to 5% Svr Charge***

No pork or lard serves. There are also Muslims workers.

FOOD REVIEW ON KLUANG RAIL COFFEE OK Oct 01, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Halal | Nasi Lemak

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE OUTLET

Since 1938, this Kluang rail coffee is very famous.

Ermm, I did not know that the Kluang rail coffee has another outlet. In my mind, it must be some very looking ancient depleted going to fall apart look kind of traditional shop so I do not expect that it is looking like this?

I am way too imaginative. Although it was a working day, this outlet is full with people and we have to wait for about 15minutes before being served. I have no idea what is wrong with me ordering nasi lemak. The waiting hour for my nasi lemak was 45minutes and I was already imagining strangling the waiter and shaking the sense into her! If she is playing the Dinner Dash, I would have left ago with a huge red face and fuming cloud over my head.

It is impossible that the next table with more complicated food has arrived and all my other friends’s food has arrived except for mine!

What is so difficult to make the nasi lemak??????? Does it really 45minutes for it to arrive? That is only after I started asking where my food is and the waiter nonchalant ask to check the receipt! How can my food not arrive when it is already paid????? Luckily a friend deals with it.

That is why I dislike eating outside. For the amount I paid, my food has not arrived. If not for the company I am, I might have left. I guess food does taste better when you are laughing and enjoyed the people you are with.

Let’s go into the food. Here is some of the food but mine is only the rail coffee cendol and the nasi lemak. The rest is ordered by friends so I have no idea how they tasted.

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE the interior

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE ROTI BUN BAKAR

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE ROTI BUN BAKAR

This their famous A must try Bread. Presentation wise, it look a little bit flatten and very traditional. The bread is a little dry but quite good in the sense that it is fluffy. The bread is already applied with generous butter. The kaya texture is just nice and not too thick but there is not much although you might there is a lot since there is some outside the bread. Kaya is not as fragrant as I thought it will be but it is okay.

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE CENDOL TEA

This is the tea cendol. The drink is not too sweet and the cendol has pandan fragrant in it. The tea on the other hand is just normal so I was actually blaming myself that I should have tried the coffee instead.

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE RAIL NASI LEMAK

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE CURRY MEE

KLUANG RAIL COFFEE PORRIDGE

This is the rail nasi lemak that has made imagined bad thoughts. Because of it as well, I managed to control myself and snapped the photos first before I get into eating mode. Normally I will just forget everything when the food is in front of me. The chicken is grilled just nice. The meat is is quite soft but it could be softer I think. The sambal spiciness is just nice but for those who dislikes spiciness, it is better not to order this. It is not hot to the extend that one have to drink few gallons of water. I think the spiciness level is probably just 2 out of 5. Rice is not bad. Anchovies and groundnuts is generous. Overall it is not bad.

I guess I am always the unlucky ones to get bad service each time I am in the restaurants.

YUEN FATT MOONCAKES Smile Aug 04, 2014
Categories : Chinese | Sweets/Snack | Bakery / Cake / Kuih

Chinese Valentine Day which is the Mid Autumn festival is coming. It is actually the celebration for the Chinese community. I remembered the lantern and mooncakes that I ate throughout the years. The unforgettable one I ate was the Green tea flavoured mooncake which tasted like eating perfume. My whole face turned red from eating it. The rest of the mooncakes were given by friends and I truly appreciated all of them.
This year, it is the first time I get a box of a very unique mooncakes and I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Let's check it out why it is so unique. =)
What is unique about this Yuen Fatt mooncakes and others lies in the pastry’ crust. The crust is similar to pies as it crumbles upon cutting. It tasted very crispy and would not stick to your mouth. The sweetness is just nice too. Eating it with tea is definitely good and well should I say one of the enjoyable moment in life.
