BAGEL! YOGURT! Are you craving for some freshly made bagel as well as yogurt? I would recommend you to head over The Mugshot Cafe (Address: 302, Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang) to fix your crave. Bagel and yogurt are what they famous for. Special thanks to my friend for bringing me to this awesome cafe which then marked another worthwhile experience to my Penang trip. Both the bagel and yogurt were sold out during our first visit. Then we paid a second visit to The Mugshot Cafe.

You will definitely notice this huge eye-catching signage just right before you enter into The Mugshot Cafe.

The Mugshot Cafe with very nostalgic feeling of interior design. They are using wooden chairs and tables. Please take note that only limited seats are available. The chairs and tables are kinda low, so for tall people, I hope you wont have problem sitting comfortably. It should be alright. lol

For your information, there are only five types of bagel to choose from: cream cheese (RM5), cream cheese and smoked salmon (RM10), bacon and egg (RM10), turkey ham cranberry sauce (RM10) and corned beef and rocket (RM10). We ordered the bagel with cream cheese. It was quite plain but mouth-watering, with poppy seeds toppings.

As for yogurt, there are only four types of yogurt available: jackfruit and gula melaka, kiwi and honey, mango and walnuts and walnuts and raisins. RM10 for each. We ordered the yogurt with mango and walnuts. This was the first time in my life to eat such THICK and CREAMY yogurt. Too thick and creamy until I stunned after the first spoon. I'm not a yogurt lover, but then after a few spoon I think the thick creamy texture of this yogurt is acceptable and goes very well with the mango and walnuts! I believe a yogurt lover will like this very much.

After eating, we then walked around The Mugshot Cafe to do photo taking. The man is preparing the bagels with bacon and egg. Notice the oven which they used to bake/ heat up the bagels? They are using firewood for the oven, not charcoal.

Then, a mug shot is a must when you pay a visit to The Mugshot Cafe. Fun seeing people taking mug shot and fun reading their written criminal charges. lol

Soohongry! which located at Armenian Street serves delicious homemade muffins, cakes, homecook dishes as well as a selection of teas and gourmet coffee.

This cafe is small but cozy. With many unique DIY decorations such as postcards, baskets, special lamp etc, this cafe on the other hand, gives us a feeling of this is the place where backpacker or traveller gathers.

Knowing that they are specialize in simple baked treats, hence we ordered their muffin of the day - Lemon poppy seed muffin, and a piece of chocolate rum cake, as well as a pot of rose with French vanilla tea.

Lemon Poppy Seed muffin (RM 3.50)
This muffin has a good real lemony flavour, not overly sweet and not too "eggy". We enjoyed the tangy lemon flavour which fills every bite of this muffin. In addition, the blue-grey poppy seeds which have a natural affinity for lemon, were blended in the muffin at a right amount, offering a pleasant fruitiness and slight crunchiness. This is one of the best muffin we had ever tried and we also like the texture of this muffin which is not too moist.

Chocolate Rum Cake (RM 12.00)
Other than the lemon poppy seed muffin, this is another great baked treat by Soohongry!. This cake is dense and moist. The chocolate and rum flavour are balanced. The sweetness is just right to our taste.

Rose with French vanilla tea (RM 12.00)
This was our first time trying the Dilmah rose with French vanilla tea. It has a very great natural scent and we can smell its rose aroma with a hint of French vanilla. And to our surprise, it is not too bitter and we enjoyed drinking it without having any sugar. Refreshing and relaxing.

We had a great afternoon tea treat. Scrumptious muffin and cake accompanied by aromatic tea.

Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang (Ikan) Smile Dec 30, 2013

Categories : Malay | Stall / Warung | Nasi Lemak

Nasi lemak is one of the Malaysian popular breakfast dish. Located at Lebuh Pantai and right in front of Sri Weld Food Court, Ali Nasi Lemak is one of the famous nasi lemak in Penang.

There are six different types of nasi lemak wrapped in banana leaf for you to choose from: anchovies + egg, fish, prawn, cuttlefish, chicken and salted fish + egg. Each pack of nasi lemak costs only RM 1.50.

During our visit, we were amazed by the speed of how are they preparing and packing the nasi lemak. Fast and steady.

Each pack of nasi lemak is prepared fresh right there. Steaming fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk was scooped onto the banana leaves, topped with fish/prawn/cuttlefish/etc followed by the red chilli-spiked gravy, then folded and packed into a conical-shaped packet.

Fish Nasi Lemak in banana leaf (RM1.50)
The moment we unwrapping the nasi lemak, we can smell the fragrance of rice with a little hint of spiciness. The rice was moist, soft (unlike the dry version of other nasi lemak) and not sticky. We love every bite of it. The fish was deep-fried, the skin was slight crispy but the meat was soft and juicy. The red chilli-spiked gravy on the other hand, spicy but very aromatic. This nasi lemak overall in combination, is definitely an enjoyable and flavourful breakfast to kick start your day. A small pack of nasi lemak like this can bring great satisfaction.

Highly recommended for people who likes nasi lemak.

curry fish head Smile Dec 06, 2013

I'm not a big fans of spicy foods, but occasionally to have some spicy foods is okay for me. Heard from a friend that there is one restaurant in Subang SS15 which serves very nice curry fish head, hence I decided to drop by to try. Pangkor Curry Fish Head Restaurant is the name of the restaurant (Not sure if it is originally from Pangkor -.-). And picture shown below is the front page of menu of this restaurant. Besides, if you are observant enough, you should have notice the blog link on their menu front page. http://pcfhr.blogspot.com/ If you are interested, maybe you can visit their blog for more information especially the menu of foods.

Looking at the picture below, the curry fish head looks tempting isn't it? When it was served, first thing I get attracted was its aromatic curry smells. Make me can't wait to taste the curry. The curry is very thick, doesn't like those diluted one that selling outside in any food stall and it tastes really delicious. In term of spiciness, I can't really bear with the spiciness and gulp down many chinese tea. But according to my friend who is a spicy lover, the spiciness level of this curry just like the hot peri-peri of Nando's. -.-" Our taste bud is so different and mine spiciness tolerance damn low. Not to forget to mention, the fish head is actually the Grouper fish head (portugese name, Garoupa), tender and mouthwatering.

And for the vegetables, I ordered this spinach cooked with prawn. Never try this before and surprisingly it tastes really good, especially the gravy with eggs and mild alcohol taste. Just nice to match with the curry fish head.

Overall, a palatable dinner.

Dark Vader and "Hot" Chick OK Oct 26, 2013

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches

At present, there are uncountable burger joints in town serving decent burgers. Not sure if you know there is one in Kota Damansara too, the Bert's Jr. Gourmet Burger.

The first thing which caught my eyes when I step into Bert's Jr. Gourmet Burger was the colourful artwork on the wall. A really big piece of wall art done by a group of volunteered art college students. After several attempts to capture the whole piece of wall art by using the iPad panorama app, it turns out to be quite good with exception there is one part which blurry a little bit due to the light reflection.

Here is another photo to show you the interior of Bert's Jr. Gourmet Burger restaurant. The design is rather simple with no special theme. Please take note that you have to go to the counter to place your order and make payment. For your information, Bert's Jr. does not serve pork or alcohol on its menu. They serve only beef, lamb, fish and chicken.

Another good piece of art on the wall located next to the counter.

There are seven burgers under "The Big Eat" menu, burgers with special name which specially crafted for your craving: Dark Vader, Steamed beef burger, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Jaw Breaker, Grill'd Chicken, "Hot" Chick and Finding Dory (those in bold are the top sellers). Prices range from RM 13.90 to RM 21.90 for regular size, RM 9.90 to RM 17.90 for small size. You can add another RM 5 to make it a combo which comes with a soft drink and a side order.

"Hot" Chick RM 14.90 and the side dish, steakhouse fries. A burger of grilled chicken thigh marinated with black pepper sauce topped with chicken mushroom cold cuk and cheddar cheese, egg, green leaves, peeled tomato and caramelized onions. The buns were soft but best with charcoal bun. The grilled chicken thigh surprisingly turned out to be quite soft and juicy. The black pepper sauce somehow does not taste the same as any other black pepper sauce out there, not too pepper-ish. The other ingredients, especially the egg, added another flavour to the burger which make the burger overall an awesome combination. My friend enjoyed the burger very much. I never like chicken thigh burger this much too. Not to forget to mention, the fries were served fresh.

Dark Vader RM 16.90. A 200g premium beef patty burger topped with beef pepperoni cold cuk mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese, green leaves, peeled tomato and caramelized onions. As for the side dishes, we opted for coleslaw and potato croquette. The beef patty is made of minced beef, hence it is really soft. Savoury, however, not juicy enough. There are two types of cheese but still the cheesiness not up to my satisfaction. Overall, this burger is still desirable. As for the cold coleslaw and potato croquette, they both taste good.

I will visit Bert's Jr. Gourmet Burger again for their Baa Baa Black Sheep because there are so many good comments on this burger.
