Piggy Tail has always piqued my interested with its cute sign & busy crowd whenever I walk pass it. Piggy Tail seems to be a rather popular after-work hang out spot for working adults to have their dinner & drink. I was rather elated when I was given the chance to try out this place!

Piggy Tail is located along the busy street of Jalan Telawi 3, facing Bangsar Village II & located just next to Nirwana.

Diners can choose to dine in at the el fresco area overlooking the busy streets of Bangsar Telawi or the indoor seating area. Lights are dimmed after 9.30pm to give the place more "bar vibes". I love the fact that the music here is not too loud despite having a bar scene- it gives us diners a nice "bar vibes", yet our conversation does not get drowned down by the loud music.

Pork Corn RM16

Deep Fried bite-sized Sakura Pork Cutlet with the right proportion of fats & lean meat, coated with a thin & crunchy layer of golden-crisp batter seasoned perfectly with spice & herbs.

A perfect beer food and also good with a glass of wine. Warning, super addictive! Once I popped one into my mouth I couldn't help but to reach out for an extra helping.

Wild Mushroom Soup RM18

Blend of three different mushroom, cooked with truffle oil and cream.

Creamy & flavourful, I loved this soup to bits! The addition of truffle oil certainly gave this dish an extra punch.

Premium Pork Aglio Olio RM25

Spaghetti cooked with Olive Oil, Garlic, Chili Flakes & topped generously with succulent Sakura Pork Neck meat & Sliced Bacon.

Snowy Piggy Carbonara RM22

The Carbonara served here at Piggy Tail is close to the original Carbonara, topped with a runny egg yolk and sprinkled generously with cheese. A creamy dish which is better off sharing, as it might be overly cloying for some to finish on its own.

Piggy Pork Shoulder Steak RM45

Premium Pork Shoulder grilled & marinated to perfection. Served with Unique Piggy BBQ sauce, Mashed Potatoes, Coleslaw & Greens on the side.

The pork shoulders were tender & juicy. Tasted good on its own even without dipping into the sauce on the side!

BBQ Pork Long Ribs RM55

Ribs marintaed with housemade BBQ sauce, grilled to perfection. Served with a side of Greens and Coleslaw. The BBQ Pork Long Ribs didn't quite hit the spot for me. Personally felt that the long ribs were a little dry and tough.

Signature Lamb Chop RM45

Another personal favourite of mine would definitely be this Signature Lamb Chop. The lamb meat were tender and succulent, with the sides slightly charred to give it a smoky BBQ taste in addition to its flavourful Homemade Mongolian sauce.

Signature Pork Knuckles RM86

A perfect platter for sharing. Crunchy crackling skin, encasing the juicy tender meat inside. Served with Coleslaw, Greens & Supreme Gravy.

Piggy Pork Burger RM28

Burger Bun sandwiching a thick yet juicy Pork Patty drenched in Cheese, fried Onion Rings and fresh greens. Served with a side of greens & addictive curly fries.

I challenge you to try to fit this burger into your mouth without dissembling it! I love how the contrast between textures of the juicy pork patty and the crunchy fried onion ring goes so well together.

Mixed Pork Frank RM30

Three different Pork Frankfrutters (Herbs, Spicy & Original) served with mashed and greens.

Truffle Ice Cream RM18

We ended our meal with a sweet note. Homemade Truffle ice-cream topped with Bacon Bits & drizzled with chocolate sauce. A unique combination of sweet & savoury all in one dessert.

If you're looking for a nice place for a filling & satisfying dinner accompanied with a drink, Piggy Tail would be the place to be!

Want to go for an all-you-can-eat meal but on a tight budget? Rocku Yakiniku might have an answer for this.

Rocku Yakiniku is an all-new casual, upbeat yet edgy all-you-can-eat Yakiniku restaurant located at the new Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Level 7 Dining Loft, where new restaurants such as Village Duck, Pig & Wolfs resides.

ROCKU Yakiniku defies convention by melding a traditional style of Japanese dining with modern entertainment, perfectly characterizing Japanese pop culture, which is quite evident from it's interior which emits a really lively & upbeat vibe.

Unlike other BBQ restaurants, Rocku Yakiniku does not reek of smoky BBQ smell. Rocku Yakiniku has a modern smoke-free BBQ system where the ventilation is installed below the BBQ pit, thus the absence of ventilation fans dangling from the ceiling! I left the restaurant with my hair smelling fresh and smoke-free! A really great plus point smile There is a mini podium at the center of Rocku Yakiniku, where live bands perform every day from 7.30pm onwards. The bands rotate on a daily basis so do keep a tab on Rocku Yakiniku's Facebook Page to see who's performing! Magic shows are available every Friday night too!Rocku Yakiniku takes pride in their really affordable all-you-can-eat lunch & dinner. RM39.90++ for weekdays lunch and RM49.90++ for weekdays & weekend dinner and weekdays dinner! Patrons are given 100 minutes to dine in & grill as much food as you can. You can top up an additional RM9.90++ for an extra 20 minutes dining time if you wish to eat more.

The price are inclusive of a free flow of meat during the dining period. What is not included in the price: Drinks, Alcohol & Ice-Cream.Fret not, as The Last Polka ice-cream is available for only RM3.90 per scoop! Flavors available are Coconut, Deep Dark Chocolate & Mango.Rocku Yakiniku constantly have promotions for their beer and sake too, so you get to enjoy your hot grilled meat with cold beer at an affordable price tag!

The free-flow meats are done ala-carte style but you can head on to their buffet bar while waiting for the charcoal to be heated up!

The Cold Bar: Salad leaves, Kimchi, Chuka Idakko, Edamame, Sweet Corn...

Hot Food Bar: Fried Mushroom, Chawanmushi, Pasta, Karage, Daikon Soup, Fried Rice...

There are also various sliced vegetables for the grill too!

As it was our first time here and we wanted to get a taste of everything, we ordered the Seafood Platter, Meat Platter & Pork Platter which consist a little of everything for our first round.

Seafood Platter: Clockwise from Top Left: Butter fish, Salmon, Scallops, Squid, Mussel, Shishamo & Prawns

I loved how fresh the seafood were! The sauce that goes with the seafood complements it perfectly, not too salty , just nice to my liking.

Pork Platter: Pork Collar & Pork Belly

Pork Bacon

Love how the ratio of lean meat & fats are proportion- we were advised to start cooking the bacon first as the lard oil will prevent the sticking of the meat on the grill.

Meat Platter: Beef Ribeye & Beef Striploin

Lamb Slices

Chicken Thigh

The beef & lamb served here at Rocku are all imported from Australia. Hence, you can expect quality tender meat here at Rocku smile The meat were lovely- perfectly seasoned & tender! Be vary though, as the meat are thinly sliced, the meat only takes a while to be cooked so do watch your meat!

It is really fun being in a yakiniku restaurant cause you get to cook your meat all to your liking- rare, medium , or well done!

The seasoning sauce used at Rocku: Ponzu, Chili & Miso sauce

Verdict: Really affordable & quality all-you-can-eat Yakiniku buffet, with a wonderful ambiance & live band. Would love to drop by here again one day!

Nosh, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar Smile Jun 24, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta

NOSH, a dessert place which is definitely familiar to all the deserts-lover out there.

Located at Jalan Telawi 3 at the ever so happening Bangsar (same row as Dip n Dip), NOSH has won the heart of many desserts lovers out there with their palatable & divine desserts.NOSH is run by this lovely lady, Judith, who spent almost two decades in Japan working as a pastry chef. After returning to her homeland Malaysia, she worked alongside with her two trusted bakers in a hotel until she decided to open her own humble shop two years ago with her two loyal bakers working alongside with her.

Judith is a creative and lady who often come up with new desserts which are inspired by the four season in Japan, namely Summer, Spring, Autumn & Winter. NOSH only uses quality & fresh ingredients in their desserts and the sugar content in the desserts is kept low as Judith believes that fresh & good ingredients brings the best taste out of a dessert and sugar-coating the dessert will only cover-up the original taste of a dessert.

NOSH's Hot Food Menu

Being a dessert-centric restaurant, don't be surprised that NOSH has a proper dessert booklet menu but only a page long of hot food menu!

In conjunction with Mother's Day, Judith has came up with a marvelous new dessert plate that sets to delight all's taste buds...

Introducing the ROSE PALETTE (RM36). Featuring FOUR type of desserts incorporated with rose petal & lots of love. The Rose Palette is available from now till 31st of May 2015 and only a limited quantity of sets are served daily so be sure to make a booking beforehand!

The Rose Palette is beautifully plated by NOSH's skillful bakers. Each and every single details are meticulously handcrafted to perfection.

Rose Berry Pavlova
Sweet, melt-in-the-mouth Meringue topped with soft Rose mousse & tart berries.

This would definitely be my favourite among the four rose palette dessert. The meringue is on the sweeter side but it was balanced off by the sourish berries and mousse. A perfect match of taste and flavours.

Rose Truffles

Rose infused white chocolate with almond ginger & sea salt. A mochi-like dessert with a chewy interior.

Valrhona & Rose Chiffon Cake

Light as a feather chocolate chiffon cake garnished with sea salt rose butter cream & touches of raspberries. Each butter cream rose was meticulously piped on the airy chocolate cake by their talented pastry chef, ensuring perfection.

Cross-section view of the Valhorna & Rose Chiffon Cake.

The light & airy chocolate chiffon cake complements the creamy butter cream perfectly, with a hint of rosey taste. NOSH's desserts always hit the spot, with a sweetness that is just right and not overly cloying.

Rose Jelly

Organic rose petals in a rose infused tea jelly with a basil seed sauce . The jelly has a soothing feel which was really refreshing.

Broccoli Soup RM14.90

Broccoli gently simmered down topped with Parmesan Cheese. Served with a slice of fluffy garlic bread. A healthy soup to kick-start our meal. The soup was creamy and thick just the way I like it.

Prawn Mame RM13

Prawn and edamame fritter. Crunchy on the outside and juicy prawns on the inside.

NOSH Ribeye RM62

Juicy grain-fed Angus beef served with red-wine sauce on a bed of roasted potatoes & mushrooms & seasonal veggies. We requested for our steak to be medium and it turned out just the way we wanted it. Steak was cooked till perfection, and it tasted good on it's own. Tender & not too tough. Thought that it would be better if the steak is served without the sauce though.

One can never leave NOSH without trying out their desserts. Feeling greedy, we decided to end our meal with a sweeter note.

If you're wondering why NOSH doesn't display their cakes and desserts out at the counter, that's because all desserts at NOSH are freshly baked & crafted upon ordering!

Apple Rum Raisin Cheese Cake RM18

Plum Apple & Plump Rum soaked raisin, baked to perfection with Cream Cheese, sitting on a bed of buttery crumble. The creamy texture of the cake and the contrasting crunchy texture of the crumble just go together so perfectly, with a hint of alcohol in the cake.

Peanut Butter Heaven RM18

Peanut butter combined with cream cheese, topped with salted peanuts served on a bed of crunchy chocolate crumble.

Peanut butter fans do not miss this. The cake has an evident peanut butter taste which was a perfect match to the chocolate-y crumb. I find this cake a little too cloying though, just my personal opinion and preference but nevertheless it was a good dessert, just that it wasn't up to my preference.

Valhorna Heaven RM36

Signature & best-seller dessert at NOSH. A platter featuring (from left) Gourmet Chocolate Ice-Cream, Molten Chocolate Cake & Tart Au Chocolat!

Do yourself a favor and order this if you're a chocolate fan. The chocolate ice-cream was rich & creamy, molten chocolate cake was perfect, and the tart au chocolat had a crumbly rich chocolate-y crust, and a molten chocolate filling which was just heaven, Each bite was simply divine. Words can't describe how good this palate was.

And of course, we wouldn't forget the mother of all dessert, ice-cream!

Rum & Raisin RM8

Each scoop of gourmet ice-cream is priced at RM8 and is served two scoops in a martini cup. The rum and raisin perfectly hit the spot with the right balance of alcohol taste, sweetness, and creaminess.

Vodka Lime Sorbet RM8

My favourite ice-cream. The Vodka Lime Sorbet is basically like a frozen cocktail ! Refreshing with a tangy taste.NOSH

Ramen Kanbe, Empire Damansara Smile Jun 24, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Ramen, is often associated with the creamy Tonkotsu soup base here in Malaysia. I do love ramen a lot, especially the rich, flavourful Tonkotsu soup base ramen. But sometimes I crave for a change, like shoyu-based ramen or miso-based ramen.

Which is why I am glad to have discovered Ramen Kanbe, a Ramen shop in Empire Damansara specialising in shoyu-based ramen.

Nestled behind Epique Coffee, Ramen Kanbe is hidden from the one's eyes at the Heritage Lane. Ramen Kanbe is only accessible via the outdoor area of Empire Damansara. Just head towards DPAC's direction and walk along the shops area and you'll spot Ramen Kanbe.

Owned by G7, a fully Japanese company, Ramen Kanbe sets to bring the culinary trend from Kobe, Japan, here to Malaysia.

The interior of Ramen Kanbe is pretty simple & humble. One can peep through the kitchen to see the chefs in action through the bar counter that separates the dining area & kitchen.

Ramen Kanbe offers limited choices of Ramen & Rice dishes, to ensure the quality and taste of all its dishes are maintained & uphold.Wantan Ramen RM21

Ramen served with lean cut of Char Siew, Wantan, Bean Sprouts, Black Fungus & Scallions

The shoyu-base soup consist of a fine blend of Japan's finest soy sauce combined with high-quality kombu kelp from Hokkaido, simmered with vegetables and chicken for more than 7 hours to produce a full-bodied, robust & flavourful shoyu soup base.

The soup was refreshing and flavourful, a respite from the usual creamy & rich tonkotsu broth. A rather simple yet comforting dish that leaves me feeling guilt-free & not leave me feeling "jelak" after the meal.

Noodles are made from scratch here, using the finest ingredients.

Spicy Ramen RM21

Minced meat & scallion in a spicy broth.

The Spicy Ramen contents the right amount of spiciness and "kick". I found the broth wonderfully flavourful.

Boiled Egg RM3

Karage RM10

Deep fried breaded chicken served with shredded cabbage and mayo. The chicken is brined in shoyu before deep-fried. Crispy on the outside, soft and tender on the inside. A perfect side dish to go along with our ramen. Only qualm was that we find the karage tad too salty.

Fried Rice RM12

Ramen Kanbe's own signature Japanese fried rice. The fried rice here is cooked till soft so expect a mushier texture. Each grain was packed with flavours but my friends thought that the dish was a little too salty.

Tenshin-Han Rice RM15

Egg-wrapped rice served with Ramen Kanbe's signature shoyu gravy. The shoyu gravy is the same as the shoyu broth used in the ramen.

The creamy omelette went well with the fluffy Japanese rice & flavourful soy sauce. A simple comfort food which all of us unanimously thought that it was the best dish here at Ramen Kanbe.

Pork Rice RM17

Japanese rice topped with generous amount of pork cooked with ginger and scallion. I was taken aback by the amount of meat served on this dish! The dish tasted rather Chinese to me. But nevertheless, it was a comforting and satisfying dish.Verdict: A healthier version of ramen, simple & comforting Japanese food. A fresh respite from the usual tonkotsu base soup.

Star Cafe, Taman Desa OK Jun 24, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Café | Bar & Pub | Steaks / Chops | Private Party

Looking for a after-work hangout place? Or a place to chill while listening to live bands, with a drink in hand?

Star Cafe would be the place to be. Star Cafe is a cafe-bistro which occupies a two-storey shop lot here at Taman Desa for 19 years! Star Cafe also has a few more branches across Klang Valley (TTDI, Plaza Damas & OUG).

Tucked away from the busy Old Klang Road , The Star Cafe's branch in Taman Desa has ample parking space (& they even have private parking bays for Star Cafe's patrons!), which is really a plus plus brownies point. One can choose to dine in & chill at the quiet outdoor el fresco area, or inside where live bands will delight your ears & warm up the atmosphere.

At Star Cafe, there will be different live bands playing different genres musics EVERYDAY from 9pm onwards! We were there on a Thursday night & we really enjoyed the performances. Most of the songs played were classic oldies rock which was truly nostalgic. It was nice to see old people getting on their foot dancing & moving up to the stage singing with the bands tongue Picture taken from Star Cafe FB page

The different bands performing at Star Cafe Taman Desa from Monday-Sunday. Time to time Star Cafe will have special band guest performing so do stay tune to their FB page for the latest update! All the chef here have many years of experiences in the F&B industry. You can get a peep on what's cooking in the kitchen by looking through the glass window that separates the kitchen and the dining area!

Fresh Salmon Cerviche RM22

Fresh Salmon Sashimi slices sprinkled with Asian Herbs & finished off with a Citrus Dressing.

A great dish to kick-start our meal, with the sourish citrus dressing that delivers a kick of spiciness. Warning: Super Spicy

Tofu Salad RM18

Silken Tofu & crispy Wonton skin on a bed of Salad Leaves. Served with Peanut & Japanese Sesame Dressing. A Japanese-inspired salad. I love how the contrasting texture of the crispy wonton skin & soft tofu come together in this dish.

Beef Wellington RM59

Juicy Beef Fillet smoothered in a blend of Mushrooms and wrapped in a Puff Pastry. Served with Red Wine Sauce & a side of Steamed Vegetables and Baked Potato

The Beef Wellington is definitely my favourite dish here at Star Cafe. the juicy & succulent beef slices wrapped in the buttery, flaky pastry puff definitely won my heart & taste buds.

Slow-Cooked Lamb Shank RM39

Lamb shank cooked for 4 hours in a red wine marinate. Served with Creamy Mashed Potatoes & Steamed Vegetables.

Hainanese Lamb Shank RM42

Tender Lamb Shank in a traditional Chinese Roots & Wolfberry soup. Served with white rice. Definitely something you can't fund elsewhere. The lamb shank here was also really tender, and the soup tasted really homey. It tasted like a traditional Chinese Herbal Soup (with a huuuuuge lamb shank!)

Chicken Deminoff RM26

Quater Chicken cooked in a cream sauce.

Otak-Otak Snapper FIllet RM32

Traditional Malaysian Otak-Otak Spiced Coconut marinate fillets of Snapper served with Rice

Star Pork Knuckle RM65

Crispy Pork Knuckle served with Sauerkraut & Potato Wedges

Spring Chicken

Fried Half Chicken Served with a side of Fries & Vegetables.

Oyster Fried Kway Teow RM20

Charred wok-fried flat rice noodle with oyster fried in eggs and tiger prawns.

The Oyster Fried Kway Teow was surprisingly quite decent and it was loaded with generous amount of prawns!

Mantis Prawn Yee Mee

The huuuuge size of the mantis prawn!

Bittergroud Fried Glass Noodles RM18

Glass Noodles fried with generous amount of Prawns, Squid, Bitter Gourd & Egg. Not really a big fan of bitter gourd hence I can't comment much on this dish.

Curry Mee

We ended our meal with a sweet note with their homemade Sarawak Layer Cake. Star Cafe has a Sarawakian pastry chef who made these dainty layer cake from scratch here!

Verdict: Decent fusion food generous in portion! Lively performances by live bands at night not to be missed.
