Foot Long Sausage Smile Nov 28, 2013

Secret of Louisiana Pasta Buffet has been one of my favourite makan and hang-out spot with my friends after my first visit, thanks to their affordable price, quaint & relaxing environment and also delicious pastas.

Last month, I visited this place three times. Of course I didn't go for their pasta buffet for all three times lol! I have to watch my diet and also waistline! I decided to try out their Country Set Lunch for two of my visit.

Foot Long Chicken Sausage RM16.50
Two foot long sausage topped with sauteed button mushroom, served with a side of mashed potatoes and grilled tomato

The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy. I loved it because it tasted "real", unlike some restaurants who like to add corn starch into their mashed potatoes to cut cost. The tomato was grilled to perfection, juicy & flavourful.
The sausage was delightful! Each bite was so juicy and flavourful! It is best eaten on its own to savour its original taste. The sausages were really filling too! I thought that two sausages will not be enough but I was feeling satiated after I finished the sausages.

Oeufs Mollets Florentine RM17
2 Soft Boiled Eggs, topped over a bed of spinach & mushrooms, glazed with Gruyere Cheese Sauce, served with a rustic artisan bread
It was such a pretty sight, seeing the eggs burst, yolk flowing out graciously. The eggs were very well done, so well done it could be called an art. I'm sorry but a perfectly done egg makes me go emotional. The whole dish was at a perfect degree of runny-ness, jsut nice for dipping the crusty & crafty artisan bread inside. Creamy, soothing, flavourful, balanced, perfect.

Parmentier de Confit de Canard RM32
Shredded Duck Confit topped with a layer of Mashed Potato Pie, served with a side of Tomato Salad
Basically, this is a French version of shepherd pie. The only difference is duck meat is used instead of the usual beef/chicken. The mashed potato pie was lovely- each bite was filled with a pleasant buttery aroma and the taste is further enhanced by herbs. The taste was so pleasantly sophisticated, like a mystery, it was so captivating- it just keeps me from reaching out my spoon, for another bite, and another. The duck confit base was so moist, so tender, I thought it could instantly melt in my mouth. The taste was so soothing, a little salty, yet sourish, and a had a little twist of flavours which I could yet to identify. To put it simply, it was DELICIOUS. A must-try!

The tomato salad that comes with the duck confit pie.
The salad was tossed in balsamic dressing, creating a pleasantly sourish taste which was really refreshing. The tomatoe cubes were marinated well, each bite was bursting with flavours. I would like to applaud YEAST, on how they could manage to transform a simple dish into such a delicacy.

Oeufs Pochés Benedictine RM22 (salmon)
2 Soft Pouched Eggs on Brioche Toast with Smoked Salmon or Smoked Turkey, Béarnaise Sauce and Greens. The poached eggs were perfect. Egg yolk came oozing out magnificently as we poked it. I really liked the béarnaise sauce used, which is actually a herbed-up version of hollandaise sauce. It was full of flavours, smooth and creamy. The whole dish just comes together so well, so perfect. So beautiful. Magnificent!

Sorry for over-using adjectives here, but honestly, I thought that it was such a great dish it deserves extra credits.

Le Croque Monsieur RM25
Grilled Turkey Ham & Cheese sandwich served with a side of French Fries & Green Salad

The layers of cheese and ham and bread stacked together was so alluring & captivating. Don't you just feel like savouring the whole thing by your own? The bread was slightly charred on the side to give it a crisp and aromatic taste. The cheese filling was generous, yet not too much to prevent it fro being overly cloying. As goat cheese was used, there were a sharp, rustic taste when I devour the sandwich. Scrumptious!

The fries, deserves a mention too. It was deep fried till golden perfection. I don't really know what was the dipping sauce the accompany the fries was, but it tasted a little bit like tar-tar sauce, herbed up version. So fine & divine. Wei Chen couldn't help it but to eat it on its own after we ran out of fries lol.

Yeast is officially my favourite brunch restaurant, replacing Antipodean. =p The food here tasted so sophisticated, it was so alluring. Portion was generous, environment was charming, service was pleasant. (Y).

Bacon & Mushroom Risotto RM10.90
Bacon & Mushroom Risotto, topped with a sunny side up and a side of green.
When I skimped through the menu, this dish caught my attention immediately because of its price. I mean, where else could you find a risotto at only RM10.90?! The price of a risotto at a typical Italian Restaurant is normally priced around RM30+!
Never judge a book by its cover, never judge a food by its price. The Risotto, was IMPRESSIVE. The texture was smooth and creamy, really well-done. Each bite was really flavourful. The creamy saucy risotto tempted my taste bud for MORE AND MORE! The beef bacon and mushroom taste infused with the rice, further enhanced the taste of the dish. The greens serves as a perfect respite from the creamy risotto. It mellows the jelak-ness of the whole dish, complementing the risotto perfectly.

Upstairs Cafe is just located upstairs of Kafe Bawang Merah, a Malay cafe which is also quite famous among Subang Folks. Heard that the owner of Bawang Merah and Upstairs are actually Father and Son btw!

It was a great dining experience. And a really good place to chill and hang out. =) Will be back soon to try out their full range of breakfast menu!

Lovely Brunch Smile Oct 25, 2013

After my many failed visit to upstairs cafe, I'm finally here with my college mates!! (After cracking our head and squeezing our brain juice during our Bio paper 23) =) We walked here from our college, under the sweltering heat, cause we were bored of food at SS15, and we had no other mean of transport LOL. #cantdrive

Upstairs Cafe, as its name suggested, is actually located upstairs, on the first floor of the row of shoplots facing Ramsay Sime Darby Medical Centre (SDMC)

Upon entering, we were greeted by the friendly staffs. The environment at upstairs cafe was very homey and welcoming. Upstairs Cafe was buzzing with activities- The sound of the coffee machine coupled with the chitter-chatter of the patrons, with jazz music playing in the background. We couldn't find a table that could fit all nine of us so we were forced to sit at the balcony area, which was actually a smoking zone.

Upstairs Cafe practices the self service culture where customer would place their order and pay at the counter.

Upstairs Cafe drinks menu! As you can see, their price is much lower than the conventional coffee shops such as Starbucks, Coffee Bean and so. Where else can you get a frap for RM9? =D

Their Breakfast Menu! I was elated finally being able to try their breakfast food. All these while I had only been here for their cakes, coffee and pasta. =D
Their menu are all written on the chalk board as there's a different menu for dinner.

Upstairs Cafe's Forte- CAKES
Believe it or not I actually tried ALL the cakes from Upstairs. And I'd say all of them are pretty darn good.
Especially their red velvet, hummingbird cake and chocolate brownies! So moist, fluffy and heavenly!

Our orders took quite a while to arrive as it was full house.

Big Breakfast RM15.90

Two sunny side up on a slice of toasted French Baguette, Two Chicken Sausages, Ham, Sauteed Mushroom, Roasted Cherry Tomatoes and Baked Beans. Comes with a glass of orange juice.
My friend's order. She wanted to order the Egg & Turkey but they ran out of poached egg. I presume due to the high demand off Egg Atlantic.

The sunny side up was very well done. The yolk was still runny, the flip side of the egg was crispy, like how a perfect sunny side-up should be. It was slightly seasoned with pepper and herb to further enhance its taste. The chicken sausage was really flavourful. The cherry tomatoes were roasted to perfection, bursting with sweetness as I take a bite. The only item I couldn't care less about is the hash brown. The hash brown is your typical MCD hash brown, except this version is slightly thicker with a crustier skin. My friend and I don't really like it as all we could taste is oil, oil, oil.

Vegetable Gyudon Smile Oct 12, 2013   (Related Review)

Veggie Gyudon S RM6.90
Gyudon topped with Carrots, Ladies Finger & Cauliflower. A Gyudon with a healthy touch =)
The ratio of fats to lean meat on the beef slice is just nice, not too fatty nor too dry. The thinly sliced beef was also well marinated, goes well with the pipping hot and fluffy Japanese rice.
Although the size of my gyudon is "S", the amount of rice and beef was quite generous.
