Potato Soup OK Nov 27, 2013
Categories : French | Café | Sweets/Snack

Last week, I had a mini foodie trip with my college mates to Bangsar. It was 11.30am when we arrived at Bangsar. It had been quite an adventurous morning, with us running around taking the KTM and taxis in fear of wasting time waiting for the bus, & also guiding our lost friend who drove there & so on.

We were famished when we arrived at Bangsar and decided to fight those hunger pangs with a big breakfast/brunch set. Walking along the famous Bangsar Telawi street, we narrowed down our choice into these two reputable two brunch restaurant, ANTIPODEAN and YEAST.

We were mulling over which restaurant to visit. Checking out the menus of both restaurant, asking everyone for their opinions, in the end we choose Yeast as it seems less crowded (hence food will be served faster) as most of us had tried Antipodean so why not give Yeast a try?

Their simple menu printed on brown recycled paper. I love the simplicity of the menu. I don't know why but I was instantly charmed by the designs. Contrary to the cafe's name, the menu is very...un-yeast-ty. LOL. I was expecting to see food items made out of yeast dominating the menu, but instead, the menu was imprinted with lots of words I can't even pronounce LOL. The menu has two different section, breakfast/brunch & lunch menu.

We were at lost. We didn't know what to order with all the French words over the menu so we asked the waiter for some recommendation and ordered what he suggested. LOL.

After we placed our orders, I couldn't help it but to admire pastries beautifully displayed at the counter. The pastries and puffs seems so soft, fluffy, and charming. So French-y like.

I loved the chic, cosy yet charming interior of YEAST. I felt as if I have teleported to France as I sat on the dining table, overlooking the lovely display of pastries. The faux flowers was so alluring, giving the restaurant a romantic & relaxing vibes.

Love the open kitchen concept at Yeast. Curious patrons like me get to witness the chef in action! Pots and pans made out of Copper hanging on the ceiling, matches the black and white tile of the restaurant perfectly, striking a harmony.

Our order swiftly arrived! First to arrived was...

Soup of the Day- Potato and Leek Soup RM14
I find the soup quite tasteless and mediocre. It was overly diluted too :/ The bread given was crusty and tasty though.

Spaghetti  OK Nov 24, 2013   (Related Review)

Aglio e Olio with Tiger Prawn RM23
Spaghetti sauteed in olive oil, slow roasted garlic, dried chili english parsley and fresh tiger prawns
Each strand of spaghetti was perfectly coated with the fragrant slow roasted garlic olive oil. The prawns were well cooked and flavourful. However, as I move on to my second and third bite, the peppery taste of the spaghetti seems to overpower the taste of this dish, resulting in a dish that was too hot too handle

Classic Carbonara Spaghetti RM23
Spaghetti tossed in carbonara sauce and bacon, topped off with a poached egg

The poached egg was slightly overcooked here, thus the egg yolk did not flow out as we expected it to. The carbonara sauce was a little too diluted to my liking too.

Shabu Shabu!  OK Oct 24, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Buffet | Steamboat/Hotpot

Jiro Shabu has been around for quite some time, but I have never tried it out before until last Sunday night.

Jiro Shabu is a kaiten style shabu shabu restaurant (revolving belt steamboat restaurant). The interior was quite stylish and sleek, with the contemporary lighting and wallpaper.

It was quite clear that it was our first time here, with the blur look we gave to the waiter LOL. The waiter immediately understood that "look" and explained to us how the restaurant "works"

You can either go for their "All-you-can-eat" Shabu Shabu at RM35 per pax, where you have access to ANYTHING the restaurant offers (sushi, tenoura, fried rice, drinks, ice-cream...) or go for their ala-carte/set which costs much cheaper.

We opted for the ala-carte and the waiter presented us their menu. There were various sets for us to choose from, from chicken set to mushroom set for the vegans, pork, beef, Seafood or even combo set for the indecisive ones lol and the price was really affordable too! Each set is served with a hugeeee bowl of veggies (white cabbage, bok choy, mushroom, crab stick, tofu, cheese sausage, sweet corn, fish cake and much more!) and a carbo side (choice of Rice, Udon, Instant Noodle, Ramen, Pan Mee, Vemicelle and Bamboo noodle!) so many choices @@

Various condiments for customer to dip their food! I really liked the garlic chili sauce! I took one full bowl of it and finished it LOL

Besides steamboat, Jiro Shabu also serves a variety of other food such as Tenpura, Fried Rice, Garlic Mussels and French Fries & Nugget drenched in mayo & cheese!

SUSHI!! One piece of sushi cost RM2, except for the California Sushi (2 pieces for RM1)
This plate cost us RM4 smile The sushi tasted OK. Like the ones you could get from supermarket. The coloured ebiko doesn't taste as bad as it seems.

The various raw food on the conveyor belt! Each plate cost RM2, any colour lol

One of the thing I love most about Jiro Shabu is their individual pots! I don't need to worry about my meat getting stolen by anyone hahaha lol

There's three type of soup to choose from: Clear Soup, Kim Chi Soup and Tomyam Soup. I opted for the Tom Yam Soup.
If you think that the soup looks really "clear" you're right. The taste of the soup was really minimal. I guess you could say it's healthier as the soup wasn't oily at all.

Our vegetables bowl! The bowl was really deep! I couldn't finish the whole thing and dumped some into my brother's pot. The soup tasted a lot better and flavourful after dumping the food in =)

Slices of Pork! Pork Set RM11.90
The pork was sliced thinly to perfection. The pinkish colour of the pork was a good indication that the pork was fresh.
My dad loved it a lot. He said the pork was tender

My seafood order! Seafood set RM16.90 I'd rate a 5 star for their presentation.
Taste wise, the squid, prawns and fish were quite fresh. However, the scallops, I don't think it was scallops :X it tasted like fish paste rather than scallops and their texture says otherwise too.

Overall, Price was decent, service was prompt, food was average but fresh, but my dad loved it a lot. However, I'd drop by again if I have any steamboat cravings.

Potion for a good health Smile Aug 16, 2016

Categories : Stall / Warung | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt

With the rise of healthy eating regime, more and more cold press fruit juice shop have been mushrooming around Klang Valley. Everyone seems to acknowledge the benefits and nutrients a cold press juice have. However, there's a barrier to enjoying a nice cold bottle of cold-press juice, that is the PRICE. Potion Factory is the solution to this barrier, selling cold-press juice at a really affordable price!

Unlike conventional juice, cold-press juice is juiced, well, cold, which retains most of the nutrients in the juice. Potion Factory juices are served without sugar and perservatives!

I tried out three different "Potions", Health, Life and Ice Potion.

My favaourite would be the Ice Potion: a blend of guava, apple, lime and chia seed. Refreshing and sweet on its own! The Health Potion is another noteworthy juice, featuring a blend of beetroot, apple, lemon and ginger - not for the faint heart as some may find the ginger taste tad strong, but I'm definitely loving it!

Delightful HK Snacks! Smile Aug 16, 2016
Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung | Sweets/Snack

Daan Daan is a food kiosk located on the 1st floor of Evolve Concept Mall specialising in Hong Kong street snacks such as egg waffles and milk tea.

The menu at Daan Daan - Daan Daan only offers waffles & drinks for now. However, from a chat with Daan Daan owner I learnt that he is planning to expand Daan Daan to (hopefully) two new branches at Genting Highland & Subang Parade, where he plans to offer more food items such as curry fish ball, another HK delight.

Egg waffle and Milk Tea & Yin Yang (Coffee & Tea mix)

Delightfully addictive! The egg waffle is a must-try at Daan Daan - One can't have enough of this crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside egg waffle. Best consumed when hot!

The waffle offered at Daan Daan has a slightly different texture compared to the western-styled waffles you usually have in a cafe. Daan Daan's waffle has a crustier exterior, and is served with a generous slab of peanut butter. Perfect for peanut butter fans.
