Meteora  OK Mar 24, 2014
Categories : Western variety | Café | Burgers / Sandwiches | Sweets/Snack

Hipster-styled cafe is recently becoming the "thing", and it is now slowly manifesting the market. My neighborhood Subang Jaya has joined in the bandwagon, finally- Introducing a new hipster cafe in Taipan Business Centre- Meteora Cafe

Located at the corner lot opposite to Murni Mamak, Meteora is very easy to spot with its distinctive dark signage & bright lighting from the inside.

Americano RM7

Meteora is a self-service cafe, where patrons are required to order & make their payment at the counter & the food ordered will be delivered to your seat promptly by their friendly waiters. Meteora menu is still quite limited for the time being as they are still fairly new. Basic things were found on the menu such as cakes, churros, drinks, & main course such as burgers and pastas.

Ample seating were available inside Meteora, and patrons get to choose to sit at their comfy sofa, basic wooden table & chairs or the bar & stool (:

The interior was really vintage, and quirky at the same time. Can't help it but to admire the cute little decorations & wall arts.

Cafe Latte RM10
The Latte was okay. Not outstanding, but definitely suffice to curb ones' caffeine cravings.

The americano was fine. Served at the right temperature, along with a piece of caramelized sugar biscuit.
Love the caramelized sugar biscuit that accompanies the coffee. It has a pleasant aromatic taste, & was crunchy in texture. The sweet biscuit and the bitter coffee complements each other perfectly, creating a bitter-sweet aftertaste.

Americano RM7

Churros with Chocolate Dip (3) RM5
Deep fried dough fritters, coated with icing sugar & cinnamon powder, served with a choice of chocolate dip or salted caramel.
The churros have a soft & chewy centre. However, I felt that Meteora has over-seasoned their churros with cinnamon, which tasted tad unpleasant.
The chocolate dip on the other hand, was way too diluted, I could barely taste the chocolate
Overall, Meteora Cafe has a nice, cosy & warm ambiance which was really welcoming. The staffs were warm & friendly. But food wise, I felt that it could be better.

Hipster Cafe OK Jan 16, 2014

With cafe being the latest food fad nowadays, it is not surprising to see so many new cafe popping up in the Klang Valley. Each has their own unique theme & style, got their own pattern here pattern there, you know lah.

So I was quite excited when I stumbled upon a few nice shots in instagram taken in Wood & Steel Cafe. Wood & Steel Cafe is a new hipster cafe, located in the hipster corner of The Strand, Kota Damansara. It took me a while to locate this cafe as I was just blindly following the mental image of the map I memorized in my head.

Walk into Wood & Steel, and you'll instantly feel as if you have time-traveled to the 70s with the vintage & retro decorations. Red bricks wall, with quirky knick-knacks & decorative item placed on the wooden shelving units & the wooden furniture, being shine upon the warm lights, it hit me that I am going to stay at this place for a while.

All those leather bags/casing & notebooks displayed on the rack is actually for sale too! Pretty vintage & cool but the price is a little too steep for me sad If you pay attention you'll notice that their tables & chairs have price tag attached to them too! Apparently most of the things in this cafe is for sale! (:

Wood & Steel cafe is a self-service cafe where you have to make your order & payment at the counter. So yay for nett price on menu smile

Our food arrived promptly upon ordering.

Hot Chocolate RM9
I was really impressed with the coffee art which was so beautifully done. However, taste wise, it was really disappointing. The hot chocolate tasted rather diluted & powdery, like a 3-in-1 drink =(

Breakfast in Bed RM9
Poached Egg & Chicken Ham on a bruschetta, topped with Hollandaise sauce & served with a side of greens
The eggs were perfectly poached as the golden yolk flowed out beautifully as we poke through the eggs with a knife. However, this dish does taste a little odd as it was served cold to us. I am not sure whether the dish was supposed to be served cold or it was left out too long as we didn't get clarifications from the waiter. My partner didn't really fancy the dish as she prefer to have it warm.

Chicken & Cheese Bruschetta RM15
Chicken Chunks & Cheese on toasted Bruschetta
The bruschetta was nice & crunchy. The tender & succulent chicken pieces, along with the hot molten cheese tasted a lot like a pizza, minusing the jelak-ness smile Recommended!

Overall Rating: 6.5
While the food served wasn't really memorable, the service at the cafe was really pleasant & welcoming (: When I asked the staffs for the WiFi password, they replied me with a cheeky face saying "nowifihere". Geddit? (: The staffs was also really attentive & friendly (: The environment was really alluring, relaxing & soothing. I could stay there the whole day.

Wood & Steel Cafe has revamped their menu recently I think, judging from the menu they posted in Living Social. Hopefully the quality of food has been improved too as Wood & Steel cafe has a fairly great potential.

Morning Marilyn  OK Dec 06, 2013   (Related Review)

Morning Marilyn RM14.90
Chicken Frank Slices in creamy black pepper sauce, mushroom and cheese omelette, grilled tomato, baked beans and toast

This dish was a little disappointing :/ When it was served to us it was already cold =(
The omelette has a buttery aromatic fragrance. However, it was overcooked and...the amount of cheese and mushroom was reaaaaaally scanty. The tomato was baked to perfection. It was sweet & juicy just the way I like it. The chicken sausage was seasoned with chives, thank goodness not chopped cilantro ^^" However, it tasted average, couldn't really taste the creamy black pepper sauce, nothing to shout about. Baked beans are the ones you get from a can. Salad was...salad. LOL. Boyfriend ate the bread and I forgotten to ask him how did it fared.

Personally, I felt that the price is steep for such a small portion.

Overall, I'd rate wonder milk a 6.5/10 smile The environment would score a perfect 5/5 though.I'd say go for the baked potatoes and wondermilk ;)

Tappers OK Nov 28, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

Tappers Cafe is a cafe serving an array of food, mostly Hainanese style and Western style. We were struck with awe while flipping through the menu. From sandwiches to omelette to nasi lemak and to laksa...Tapper's menu will definitely please anyone's palate =)

It was love at first sight. The environment, I mean. I was instantly mesmerized by its interiors. White washed walls, paired up with white garden tables and chair, with white framed windows and mirror enclosing the cafe. I felt like I am in a story book. The cafe felt so tranquil, peaceful and relaxing.

Green Tea (Pot) RM3.80

The green tea was decent and flavourful. However no one offered to refill our tea pot so I was kinda disappointed.

Caesar Salad RM10.90
Romaine salad tossed with homemade caesar dressing and parmesan cheese powder, chicken bacon, hard boiled eggs and chopped cherry tomatoes
I really liked the chicken bacon. It was fried till crisp, giving an extra crunch to the salad. However, I find the salad quite dry. The proportion of salad to dressing was slightly off.

Soups! OK Nov 28, 2013   (Related Review)

Mushroom Soup RM6.90
Creamy mushroom soup topped with crunchy homemade croutons served with a slice of toasted bread.
On first impression I thought that this would be another case of canned soup but the taste stated otherwise. The soup base, probably chicken broth, was flavourful. The chicken taste was quite overpowering- I'd have mistaken this for a chicken cream soup if it weren't for the menu. Bits and chunks of mushroom was found in the soup. Guan Ren liked it a lot. Personally I think it was not bad, but I'd still prefer soup with less cream, more mushroom puree.

Minestrone Soup RM6.90
Vegetable soup in spicy, tomato broth served with slices of toast bread

Generous chunks of carrots and capsicum in the soup
Not the best in town but it definitely hit the spot! The right degree of spiciness, balanced up with a low pH level, all come together in a flavourful tomato broth.
