No Frills! Smile Dec 06, 2013

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops | Private Party

Some time back, a group of friends decided to check out a newly opened restaurant called the Kitchen Creatures… and I was one of them to storm the place for the 1st time! Such a perky name, methinks.
Loved how notepaper-ish their menu resembled

Heck, it was really catchy too! Try reading it when you get there

I took a liking to their concept of a No Frills Dining. Nothing too fancy-pancy, yet delivers the bare necessities every hungry person yearns for. Food at no extra cost. This means, you’re only paying for your meals – NO GOVERNMENT TAXES, NO SERVICE CHARGES AND ETCETERA.

But tipping is certainly welcome! smile

We mingled around for a bit and took pretty pictures of the cosy and home-like outlet. Heck, there was even a Spiderman poster all framed up against the brick wall! And a chalkboard hung from the top.. pretty old skool ey!

The first appetizer came - it was Stuffed Mushrooms on the house specially for us! Such sweethearts, no? smile Perhaps it’s their method of a warm welcome. We were given plenty of these.

Was warm and juicy!

After skimming through all the food in the menu, I placed my dime upon the Carbonara Spaghetti. A personal favorite since childhood. And lookie here! A reasonably portioned plate of pasta of my choice arrived quite quickly with a couple of mussels and fresh shrimps too!

Certainly exceeding my expectations for the price that comes with it!

Apart from the Carbonara Spaghetti, there were many variants of our favorite pasta. Someone else at the table ordered Oglio Olio, which came with succulent shrimps as well.

Pretty soon, more yummy delights came a-knocking at our gastronomic gates! Similarly, the pizza was also specially made by Kitchen Creatures just for us. Soft melted cheese baked with a crunchy base no one could resist! They had a few toppings that came along with it too.

The other main courses that the rest ordered came in a jiffy too. The Monster Platter consisting of fried shrimp, calamari rings, mushrooms, fried chicken wings and nachos was a real combo! You certainly will not expect this for the price you’re forking out… more than what you bargained for!

Sirloin Steak, Monsterized Burger, Monster Platter and Bolognese Spaghetti

I liked how the Chicken and Mushroom Pie came in such bite-sized pieces! There was mash potatoes accompanying it too. Being a huge fan of pastries, I must say that these babies were relatively fulfilling lol Kudos

Can’t exactly remember what this was or who ordered it… but it looks pretty satisfying to me!

A good mixture of meat, veggies and pasta smile

After all that warm good meaty aftertaste, it’s good to flush them all down with some ice-cold drinks. Check out the Slimey George! It’s a mixture of Sprite + Ribena + Lemon. Mocktail much? lol The color that accompanied that concoction was really interesting too

Someone else ordered soup, and it arrived in due time as well. What a huge plate! It looks thick and rich, reminds me of beef stew! The noms lol

No complaints at all. Very good and quick service, witty staff, reasonably delicious food but most importantly, WORTH EVERY PENNY YOU’RE PAYING FOR!

All in all, it was a very pleasant dining experience! I would certainly recommend this to anyone planning to indulge in good food without having to make your wallets echo the next day. Perfect for a simple meal and even more perfect for that huge gathering of friends!

The outlet in which we sat snugly was Sanook, a Restaurant & Bar set in a very serene stretch of other thriving food outlets by the Kelana Jaya lake.
But hey, if ya think beer ain’t enought to satiate your appetites, check out their other finger food too. There were also main courses, but it was already time for supper! So yeah, here’s what we ordered

Showdown! Pepperoni Pizza
Did I hear a soft tummy growl? tongue

Onion Rings!

Sautéed button mushrooms

Spicy sausages

Potatos in their jackets

A Hong Kong Encounter  Smile Dec 06, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Hotel Dining | Buffet | Dim sum

For those not in the know, Tai Zi Heen is an award winning Chinese restaurant in Prince Hotel.

Tai Zi Heen will be presenting ‘A Hong Kong Encounter’ featuring Ricky Thein, their Chinese master chef ‘s sign
ature Cantonese cuisine delicacies.

Imma share my very own Hong Kong encounter with yall right now. Let’s begin with the quadruple dished appetizers

Foie Gras Yam Puff
Shredded Beef with Dried Tangerine Peel
Wok-fried prawn with Asian Tomato and black sesame dressing
Steamed cod dumpling with crab meat glaze

My fave was the Foie Gras Yam Puff! Imagine, something so westernized met with the oriental Hong Kong style of yam combinations.

A duo of duckling and organic yin choy broths with sun-dried seafood, prawn and hairy gourd was next. The gourds was imported from Hong Kong itself! (Hairy too haha)

Anything with fish will definitely stir me up! Honey and soya baked salmon with fragrant crab roe, soya beans, broad beans, honshimeji mushrooms and wolf berry sauce came in next.

Impressive presentation, no? This dish was named the Citrus Marinated Lamb Rack Roasted With White Sesame Seeds, Wok-fried Baby Cabbage, Fresh Lily Bulbs and a Spicy Minted Plum Sauce

The next dish was Dan Mee With Soy-Braised Beef, Carrots, radish and leek topped with splash of red wine. I took d spoon and dunked all the wine into the noodles!

The desserts were a great fusion of Hong Kong cuisine as well. Fancy some Chocolate Whiskey Siew Mai, Vanilla Ice Cream With Fresh Mango Puree, Sago and Pomelo? Yum.

The chocolate whiskey!
Gosh.. a real craving
A wholesome dinner would not be complete without a glass of premium wine, yes? Like I previously mentioned, I fancy my meals topped of with a dash of wine.

To further enhance this Hong Kong Encounter, Pernod Ricard Malaysia introduced their fine selections of wine – Jacob’s Creek Reserve Shiraz to complement Chef’ Ricky’s exquisite, festive menu.

For those who appreciate the finer things in life, this wine is for you! Tastes really good to the tastebuds. I bet all of us loved it to bits! From one to a group of more than ten, this fiesta really rocked out evening.

We enjoyed every morsel of your gastronomic escapade to Hong Kong.

Neo atop the hill! Smile Dec 06, 2013

Categories : Thai | Western variety | Restaurant | Fine Dining

I was intrigued by the settings of Neo Global Tapas & Luxe Lounge, atop Tamarind Hill. It totally gave me the feel of a pan-asian locality, some parts of it even reminded me of Siam!

Give me one darn good reason why I shouldn’t come back here for a delightful date atop a hill! I’d like to walk up to an appetite of fusion & international delights smile

However, this awesome-possum place was previously located in Ampang. It recently relocated and refurbished itself to what you see today.

Peeked at the chefs busy preparing our dinner

What else can I say? I loved it. It was full of suspense, dramatic and in-depth of the things that goes behind those kitchen doors to present us dish after dish of sumptous meals, of those we have in prestigious hotels.
Our dinners were inspired by Daniel Boulud’s recipies!
Let’s grab a bite

Tuna Belly with veggies smile
Omg! The otoro was really strong with flavour

Loved the tender beef & those mad huge scallops

Dessert to end the day
You’ll never go wrong w chocs & strawberries

We left when night fell – see how picturesque Neo, Tamarind Hill looks after the sun has set!

Vintage Bulgaria Smile Dec 06, 2013
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Burgers / Sandwiches

Here’s the dirt on what I was up to one night – having gastronomic voyages as usual, but this time it’s in no where else but Bulgaria.
Families enjoying their dinner on both the levels separated by a semi-spiral wooden staircase

Very authentic aye? I adore the wooden furnishings, pebble walls and the wheel-shaped chandelier. Makes you feel so at ease – just like in the comfort of your own home. Now, this is the kinda setting that completes a wonderful dining experience.

We were served an entire set meal which consists of a few choices of entrees, main courses, desserts and drinks. I OBVIOUSLY chose fish as my main course being a hardcore fish lover – but Imma share all the dishes that we had anyways.

Choices of :
Mushroom Soup served with vintage garlic bread
and
Seafood soup
I preferred the Seafood Soup anytime, very much better than most Seafood Chowders I’ve tried. The Mushroom Soup was not to bad as well, with that piece of vintage garlic bread, they can never go wrong.
Time for the main course!
Here were the choices :

Chicken Stroganov
It was boneless chicken drumsticks cut into strips cooked
with mushroom, cream, wine, herbs and spices
Chicken was relatively tender and I absolutely love those capsicums. The sauce had this tangy and unique taste too. Not a bad choice for poultry lovers!

The Bulgarian Platter
There were a mixed grilled trio of Bulgarian sausages and pork fillet
I found this rather bland, which tasted like almost any other pork fillets and sausages. It wasn’t a favorite among my tablemates as well. It wasn’t bad though as it was pretty filling, but could be better.

Plovdiv Ribs
They were tasty pork ribs grilled till tender
My grandma would love this. Pork ribs had always been a usual for our family dinners back at home, and this one was grilled to its finest and had the authentic taste of how pork ribs should always originally be.

Baked Codfish with Creamy Mushroom sauce
Two words – AMAZINGLY FRESH. Love the texture too. Sorry but hey, I’ve always been partial to fish. So what else can I say but give a biased opinion about this dish? LOL anyways, the peeps at my table had a bite of my fish and all of them agreed in unison.
But as much as a hardcore fish fan as I am, nothing comes close to this winner

Bulgarian Pork Djolan
It’s their traditional roasted pork knuckles
Succulent, bursting with flavour and unlike any other. All of us gave this Pork Djolan a thumbs up and even requested for more. This was all before I was told that it was an all-time favorite among the previous crowds of customers.

Good till the very end
A must try – no doubt about that!
As a wrap to our heavy portions of main courses, came the desserts. We had choices of Chocolate Soup and Chocolate Creme Brulee. They were both cocoa based, but my choice would definitely be the Chocolate Soup… hands down!

The smooth and creamy taste of chocolate
is now drinkable!
