If anyone post the question of "Where is the best char koay teow in Penang?" My answer never fails to be at Kedai Kopi Sin Hwa. In fact, every time I come back to Penang, I would definitely make this place my first morning/noon stop. Actually, I never really knew this is the actual name of the kopitiam till today when I decided to write a review about it and starting googling it. I always tell people it is in the middle kopitiam opposite the Pulau Tikus police station.

The char koay teow here is just nice and not too oily. There were octopus and average sized prawns. The smell is fragrant enough yet the char koay teow is not dark coloured like what people normally fry in KL which usually disappoints me.

I saw many newspaper cuttings of how the char koay teow hawker won awards in char koay teow cooking contests too.

Deer Satay at Pulau Tikus Market  Smile Aug 09, 2015

Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung

Can you believe it that, being a local Penangite, I have never been to Pulau Tikus Market at night hawker stalls for food? I guess I am too health conscious when I was living in Penang to do that. Anyway, not many Penangites will go hunting for hawker food and would usually settle for normal food near our homes unless we 'lepak' a lot. As for me, I hang out in the tuition centres more than anything!

Anyway, let's get to business. The first item I ordered when I set foot here was the Deer Satay! I mean, it is not everywhere that you see people selling this!

The verdict? Extraordinary! The venison meat was awesome! The meat was so succulent, juicy and sweet and not rubbery.

The chicken meat satay was also delicious. It was my first time eating satay whereby the meat was not oily at all and they have excluded the fats from the stick!

People say that the best satay can be eaten without the sauce and this stall has lived up to this standard.

This stall also used paper plate made from environmentally friendly sources instead of the

In essence, I am not really a satay fan but this stall has succeeded in making me its fan! Bravo!

Every time I go back to Penang, the Lor Mee next the Goddess of Mercy Temple will be a definite visit. The kopitiam only sells lor mee and it would always be very crowded. It is a family-run business where about 3 teenage daughters run the business.

The lor is very thick, in fact, thicker than the rest. There would be very little ingredients and the downside is they always forget my Bak Poi (Pig Skin). I like the organs such as the stomach. The hard-boiled egg would be half an egg. You can see a lot of egg used in making the thick soup. I also like the bean sprouts inside.

There would also be warm nutmeg drink to clear off the warmth from the heat.

Purrffect Cat Cafe Smile Feb 09, 2014
Categories : Western variety | Café | Sweets/Snack

Me and my BFF went from one coffee cafe/bistro to another at 3 pm in the afternoon around the whole Georgetown but most seemed to be closed on the third day of CNY. So in the end we decided to try Muntri Lane. We were supposed to go to Muntri cafe but since our car was cruising along this road, my sharp foodie eyes spotted a creative name called "Purrffect...." so I decided to check it out. The downstairs turned out to be a shop selling every item about cats!

The best part is when we found out that there is a cat cafe hidden upstairs for real! The sweet and friendly Indian cashier told us all we needed to do was spend at least RM 18 per person in order to play with the cats at the samee time. Although I was not a fan of cats, in fact, I hated them, my BFF said why don't we give it a try. So we did!

We ended up spending 2 hours there engrossed with playing with the 7 persian and foreign bred cats in the middle of our food.

They only serve simple cakes and also coffee and tea. We ordered a Fruit Tea for RM 15.90 which was so tasty and fragrant and served in a cute little cat shaped teapot.

The almond cake which cost RM 12.90 was very worth it because it came in two pieces. At first I was hesitant to order it because the portion was too small and I thought it would be just served in a piece. The cake was so full of almonds and very rich and thin.

The Mushroom Quiche (RM 12.90) was quite delicious and they actually made it really hot and tasty.

Playing with the cats was a great past time. And the best part is no worries about bathing them!

Every time I come here, mee udang is one of the must-haves besides the Chicken Pot Pie. But the bad news is that since today is the third day of CNY 2014, the Chicken Pot Pie stall was not open so I was forced to order other food.

The Mee Udang Teluk Kumbar was not bad and we both finished every drop of it. There was a mix of spiciness and soury taste. Very tasty. I guess this cost about RM 6 more or less.

We also ordered the BBQ Chicken sticks with BBQ Sauce, Mango Sauce and Hot and Spicy sauce. I felt there was no distinction between the sauces though and the sauce was too sweet and the meet too hard. Those 9 sticks cost almost RM 12.

The Cuttlefish Kangkung was amazing. The sauce was very thick and tasty. There was also some jellyfish included.

Today there were a group of singers singing old CNY songs and also some Malay songs making the atmosphere more lively. The best part here is eating and enjoying the scenery of the sea in front, especially since we had a strategic spot in front of the sea and had the breeze gently blowing my hair away.
