Frisson Coffee Bar OK Jan 22, 2015
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

I was supposed to go to Good Batch but ended up coming here because there was too long a queue. There were quite a number of people at Frisson, mostly trying out since it was only opened two weeks ago.

Anyway, the Hazelnut Cappucino was a disappointment as the heart was incomplete. I felt 'pantang' as a half-heart is not really that lucky on New Year's Day. It seemed like  I may be doomed to be broken-hearted the entire year. The coffee was ok, since they used quite quality beans, apparently African ones.

My friend ordered the Hot Chocolate drink which just tasted normal and not thick enough.

My friend ordered the Chicken Baguette which turned out to be Chicken Bak Kua, Bahu (Chicken Floss) and also an egg in between the baguette! I felt it was too easy to make and not worth the price paid, for more than RM 20. I felt that the egg should have been a bull's eye instead of just normal egg, with the egg yolk over cooked.

The Baked Eggs were the worst and calling it that name, was almost unbefitting. The eggs were overcooked, the egg yolk was hardened instead of runny like how most baked eggs should be. And they are even naming the place Frisson, almost like Frisky Goat in TTDI which has the best baked eggs in the world. The fillings were ok but the main item of baked eggs were done wrongly.

It is weird that even though this place is called "Kari Kepala Ikan," not a single person was eating curry fish head inside. SUPER WEIRD! Did they mis-spell the name? Anyway, since there were so many people there and I was already hungry and too sick to eat at a western cafe which sells cheap spaghetti and food, I decided to go with the crowd and order the steamed tilapia fish soup. It turned out to be just normal steamed fish with more diluted sauce which was served in boiling condition.

The only thing I did not like was that there was no sambal which I needed badly since it seems too plain.

This fish (RM 35) and one Loh Han Kuo (RM 1.50) which adds up to RM 38.50 was pretty ok since it was air-conditioned too. The fish is quite fresh but I would not come all the way here just to eat this and it is not worth the journey.

Try Me  OK Jan 05, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Café | Noodles | Porridge

I have been exploring Kuchai Lam outlets for quite a while. We came here with mother and her old friend from Penang and it was raining that time. So we ordered something warm like soup noodles.

Mum ordered the Pork Herbal Soup (RM 8). The soup was a tad too thick and not very tasty and the herb was overly strong. Moreover, the pork and intestines added to the thickness.

I ordered the Rice Wine Noodle Soup with Chicken drumstick and pan mee (RM 9) which again, was a tad too thick and strong for us. The taste of the wine is not enough.

Tonkatsu OK Jan 05, 2015

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba

OK, if you are health-conscious freak or organic type of person, you might want to refrain from coming here. We had no choice but to eat here as all the restaurants in Publika were fully booked on New Year 2015 Eve due to their countdown event. Every food item here is deep fried and most of the meat is pork. The deep fried fish is more expensive than the other meat.

So in order to save money, I ordered the RM 25.90 Deep Fried Pork Katsu. Every set comes with free green tea (a plus point since the food here is very expensive), a lot of shreded raw cabbage and a radish soup which is sweet. I had to drench my rice with a lot of soup as I am not used to eating rice in dry style. I also ate mine with a lot of the signature sweet and not-even-spicy sauce. The table for all 8 of us is quite big and is special as it is in triangle shape.

I could nto even finish 3 other pieces of my meat and had to share with another friend. So I guess this is just a try-once place for me.

Nana's Green Tea  OK Jan 04, 2015
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen/Udon/Soba | Desserts

We happened to go to 1 Utama to watch "Seventh Son" today and we had lunch at Nana's Green Tea, my first time here at Old Wing of 1 Utama. This place is easily missed as it is located inside an alley.

My friend ordered the Every Day Set Lunch for RM 18.80 which comes with any drink of your choice from a range of matcha, latte, tea etc. My friend ordered the Oroshi Set with Beef meat burger patty and multi-grain rice and also some salad and also of all things, brinjals!

My other friend who ordered the Loco Hamburg chicken burger with multi-grain rice set had a most beautiful half-boiled egg which I envied so much.

I ordered the Mentaiko Seafood Udon (RM 28.80) which was too creamy for me, though not as creamy as carbonara. I ordered that because it looks special but the taste was disappointing. In fact, I found it quite a challenge to finish it. The colour was awful as well, being pink in colour. There were scallops, peeled prawns and also squid inside. The Salmon Cream Udon (RM 18.80) set my friend had did not taste good as well.

Since my eyes went green seeing all  things matcha in the menu, I also ordered 2 Matcha drinks. One of them being, Matcha Latte (hot) with red beans and also mochi. I did not like the mochi which looked and tasted like tang yuan and also the red beans did not go well with hot latte. The biggest spoiler was the whipped cream on top as  I hated whipped cream. So this is definitely not recommended for RM 9.80!

My second item was a dessert, Matcha Shira Parfair (RM 18.80) which came with so much whipped cream with Matcha syrup on top and some vanilla ice-cream in between that I felt like puking. This is because I did not like cream but a cream lover would not say this. There were Matcha jellies, matcha ice-cream, red bean paste.

After today's meal where the cream feeling lingered with me till I finished movie and till dinner time, I am definitely not going to have any Matcha with cream for at least a few weeks. I would declare myself Matcha-unfriendly for few weeks!
