Salmon Month at Sakae Sushi  Smile Apr 22, 2014

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba | Private Party

Since I am a member of Sakae Sushi and there is a member's day promotion of 20% off the bill at all Sakae Sushi outlets, I could not stand not going there.

My friend ordered the Haru Teishuku which was quite worth the RM 25.90 price tag as it came with Salmon with Teriyaki sauce and also chicken teriyaki. The grilled salmon was nicely thinly sliced, and just nice and juicy. The teriyaki chicken was so succulent and juicy where the juice came out on the plate. There was also miso soup, mushroom chawanmushi and white sushi rice. In fact, my friend enjoyed the meal so much that he ordered an extra bowl of rice which cost RM 3.

As usual, I ordered my favourite monthly specials. The Salmon Natsu Itame was actually stir-fried small pieces of salmon cooked, atop vcery thinly sliced eggplant and placed on french type of crackers. Teh result was quite amazing.

The winner was definitely the Fruity Salmon Maki, which I believe, is the best of monthly specials at Sakae Sushi which I have tried so far. The wondrous fusion of the strawberry slice with juicy fresh avocado and fish roe has infused the sweetness of those fruits into the raw salmon. The result? The most amazing marriage of fruits and salmon. It was like the Garden of Eden.

Since I am a member, I could eat the monthly member's sushi promo for only RM 1 and this month's happen to be Honey Ebi which was actually big dried shrimps fried with honey.

Happy 8 at Baskin Robbins  Smile Apr 20, 2014

My stomach was growling, a little for some food since I just had Yoga class and dinner was before the class. At this time and place in Uptown, there is not much snacks available. In addition, we were again on a tight budget. I realized Baskin Robbins has Wednesday promotions and we went there.

I ordered the Happy 8 ice-cream set which came with 8 flavours (4 set by Baskin and another 4 can be chosen by the customer) and also a chocolate waffle.

Do be reminded that the scoops are mini versions but still for the price of RM 9.90 for 8  mini scoops oBaskin Robbins was worth the price. I ordered 2 scoops of my favourite Jamoca coffee, Love Potion, some chocolatey flavours, Pistachio. We had a great ice-cream to end the day sweetly.

The Planters @ Danna Hotel Smile Apr 13, 2014

I would say that the best lunch buffet I even had in Langkawi would be here! The view of the infinity pool is also as great as the food. At last somewhere where the food is as good!

There is a range of Thai food like som tam, papaya salad, seafood glass noodle salad, mango salad, tom yam soup and even green curry sea bass. I would say the star item is the green curry sea bass is the star item as it was very spicy and the fish was very tender. The brinjals were a tad hard and uncooked though.

The papaya salad was also delicious and spicy enough.

It is strange that the fact that the guests are mostly caucasians and some of the employees are Caucasians, that they have such spicy food for a lunch buffet. Anyway, this is great news to me.

The dessert - fruit tarts were tasty. The tiramisu with white chocolate sticks served in a cup was very sinful and superb. Suitable for any chocolate lover. The peach tart is not bad too.

Strangely, I found myself liking the pumpkin sago bubur which was quite unique and tasty. At first, I squirmed when I saw this item on the menu.

Four Point Sheraton has an amazing view. A very breathtaking and pictureque scene of the wide sea that looks without a horizon with an infinity looking pool greets us when we reached Langkawi, just 5 minutes after arrival at the airport. The Eatery Restaurant at this hotel has  ceiling to floor glass so that diners feel fuller when dining here.

We had a lunch buffet specially catered for us. The winning item is definitely the seafood chowder with fresh wheat french loaf. It was so tasty that I had two bowls of it, one thing that I seldom do with fattening and creamy western style soup. I admitted I digged out all the mussels, fish and prawns inside!

The lamb/steak was not bad, and not too oily and quite tasty.

The cakes are just ok, though they do look too whitish. I would prefer the puddings.

Seasonal Taste @ Westin Langkawi Smile Apr 13, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Hotel Dining | Buffet

Every time we come to Westin Langkawi, I always enjoy the buffet breakfast here. The view of the pool and sea is amazing and breathtaking. There is always a myriad of varieties of food be it fresh raw salmon, English Western Breakfast items like fried eggs, sausages, beans etc, and Asian food like Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, Murtabak, Dhall curry etc.

The fried egg is cooked in the shape of a heart. Very cute and great for photos.

This time round there were mini lamb sausages rolling on the machine which was an amazing sight and had amazing taste too. I also like the button mushrooms grilled till succulent as well as the thinly sliced grilled eggplant.

The yoghurt choices were many too from original to berries. We could also mix the original yoghurt in jugs with blueberry/kiwi/mango sauces and also almond chips, wheat flakes, chocolate chips, dark chocolate pieces (10 cent sized).

There were also crispy waffles and also pancakes freshly made by the chef which we could drizzle with chocolate sauce, kiwi/blueberry/strawberry/mango puree with chunks of the respective flavours. I also love adding a lot of chocolate chips, colourful rice, almonds and other nuts.

The salad selection also contains many varieties. The best part of course is the raw salmon. The sourish salad with purple cabbage was also great to go with the salmon.

The most elegant part of this buffet was the sparkling wine that can be drank with mango puree ala-Bellini way. The sparkling wine is unlike those cheap ones found at the malls but cause a bit of dizziness when drank.

The tea in Westin, I would say, is the best, I ever drink, when we talk about tea bags. The tea is very fragrant and the tea bags in the shape of a pyramid.
