Creative Dining Concept OK Sep 01, 2013

Monster In The Hauz, a new pork burger player in the market. They opened not too long ago, operational for about four months. Wifey and I chanced upon this place when we decided Tai Lei Loi Kei wasn't worth the long queue. Situated on the first floor, it would be quite easily missed. When we arrived, there were no patrons in sight.

The decoration was pretty sparse and simple.

On every table there were some bottles of chilli and tomato sauce, salt and pepper shaker, as well as a box of tissue for our messy gorging.

Since the place was ours for the time being, we decided to walk to see what was behind the closed doors. Apparently, this restaurant is a pet-friendly one, where one can bring their cats or dogs and dine. The pet area is separated by the doors, so for the patrons who were there for the food, they will not be bothered by the pets. I thought it was a nice concept. I would probably recommended this to friends who are pet-crazy and want to bring their beloved pooches everywhere. After a long while, which was surprising as we were the only customers there, our food came.

Wifey's Hawaiian Monster Burger. The portion was rather small. The patty was quite dry too. The only redeeming quality was that there is a slice of pineapple in the burger, which helps which the moistness. The fries were overly fried, and was tooth-breakingly crunchy.

My Crispy Bacon Monster Burger fared a bit better. Probably because I asked for an additional layer of fried egg in it. In actual fact, other than the creative dining experience with pets, there isn't much pull factor for patrons as the food is nothing to shout about.

Shoyu Ramen OK Sep 01, 2013

Last month on a Saturday, wifey and I wanted to have some BBQ pork rice, hence we decided to head over to Glenmarie Industrial Park to Meng Kee for a sumptous lunch. However, upon arriving, we were dismayed to see the long line queuing for their delicious BBQ pork and roast chicken. We didn't really want to wait, as we had plans after lunch. Then I saw something that baffled me. A shop named Meng Kee Ramen. I didn't know Meng Kee had ventured into another cuisine. Nevertheless, we decided to give it a try. We walked in, not that many customers.

Their tables were round, and the chairs were designed in such as way that they sort of hug the table. The chairs only had three legs, which I gingerly sat upon, just in case I embarassed myself by falling. I ordered a Shoyu Ramen from their limited menu, and waited a while before the dish came. The picture of the dish in the menu looked like they offered the same type of char siew that Meng Kee Char Siew offered, so I was expecting the visit wasn't a total loss.

The bowl of noodle came piping hot, and it was huge! The noodles were done OK, a bit too soft for my liking. I was slightly disappointed when I saw the char siew, but when I bit into it, it wasn't that bad actually. Not the same type of char siew in Meng Kee Char Siew, different, but quite acceptable. Two halves of an egg, hard-boiled. Not the soft yolk type of eggs, so not impressive there. There were lots of sliced black fungus, which I like very much. A slice of seaweed and a piece of naruto completes the ensemble. The soup is quite flavourful, made spicy by the dollop of chilli oil put on top before serving. Priced at RM6.80 per bowl, it is a decent price to pay, but nothing to shout about.

Ice Mango Tea OK Aug 27, 2013   (Related Review)

We ordered an ice mango tea to share, as we found that the drinks were pretty expensive. The ice mango tea took awhile to come. It was basically ice blended mango cordial with some weak tea taste. However, it was quite sweet. We had to wait for the ice to melt a bit before it was acceptable to drink. Priced at RM9.90 a cup, it was quite expensive, and not really worth it.

Mee Hoon Goreng OK Jul 26, 2013

Categories : Malay | Food court | Mixed rice

Wifey and I went to KL today to do run some errands really early in the morning. I was feeling a bit hungry, and decided to visit Food Channel to see what they had to offer for breakfast. I wanted to have some roti canai, but the stall wasn't open yet. So I looked around and saw that Serai Nasi Campur was open, and they were offering some fried meehoon. I ordered a plate, added a bulls eye egg and some sambal sotong. They gave some additional sambal as well. The fried mee hoon was so-so. The spices used were not tossed properly in the mee hoon, hence there was a wad of it in my plate, making that mouthful very salty. The bulls eye egg looked rather insensitively made, hence looked more like an omelette than a bulls eye. The sambal sotong was quite nice, the only highlight in my meal. It was nicely cooked, not too spicy, just good enough for me. The extra sambal given is quite spicy, so I didn't have much of that. Priced at RM6, it was quite expensive, I thought.
