Dessert OK Sep 04, 2013   (Related Review)

For dessert, we had the sweetened sea coconut with nata de coco and lemon, as well as the Sweet Fancy Duet. The sea coconut is young and boiled quite well. The nata de coco provided a good chewy crunch to the dessert, together with a hint of lemon. A bit sweet, which made the other dessert, Sweet Fancy Duet pale in comparison. The duet is essentially wor peng, fried Chinese pastry. I thought it was a bit oily, with not much of lotus paste filling. There was also some cendol-like jelly served, which was also not very impressive. I would probably not order this dessert from here again.

The fried rice with anchovies and salted fish in Oriental Pearl Restaurant was just so-so, nothing to shout about. The rice was fried slightly wet, though still fluffy

. I would normally prefer my fried rice drier. There were quite a bit of ingredients such as prawns, chicken cubes, bit of long beans and small pieces of salted fish topped with fried tiny little anchovies. The taste was quite mediocre. Probably good for just filling up the stomach.

Wan Tan Mee OK Sep 03, 2013

Wifey and I were at Mid Valley Megamall a couple of weeks ago to attend an exhibition. Since we were there early, we headed towards Old Town White Coffee to have a hearty breakfast before braving through the throngs of people in the exhibition. I ordered the nasi lemak, my staple breakfast. It comes with sambal sotong. The portion wasn't very big. The rice was fluffy and had a good coconut milk taste to it. The sambal sotong was above average, though not spicy enough for me. Usual condiments include peanuts, fried anchovies, quartered egg and some cucumber slices. Pretty decent meal, but nothing to shout about.

Barley Drink OK Sep 03, 2013   (Related Review)

Barley drink is good for its cooling properties, especially on a sweltering afternoon. Wifey would normally order this when we go out lunch in kopitiams. In Restoran New Yew Sang, there is no exception. I thought that the barley drink was rather watered down, though it was quite well chilled by the ice given. It has a mediocre barley flavour, due to the fact it was slightly diluted.

Priced at RM1.50, it was a decent amount to pay.

Teochew Chendul OK Sep 01, 2013

Recently opened in Paradigm Mall, Penang Road Famous Teochew Chendul had cendol-lovers flocking its premise. Wifey and I were also excited to have our fill, as we tried the original one, and we liked it very much. First thing you would notice is the price tag of RM4.90 a bowl, just for the original one without anything fancy. It was only RM2.50 per bowl in Penang. Nevertheless, we ordered, and the bowl of cendol was delivered to us. It is quite a large portion, with a generous helping of cendol and red bean in it. The sweet

gula melaka was mostly in the ice, so we had to chip it a bit and mix it around before consuming. I thought that there were too much ice, and not enough brown sugar. Also, the coconut milk was a bit diluted. All in all, I think the Penang one is still much better in comparison.
