Soft Shell Crab Salad OK Jul 07, 2013   (Related Review)

I have heard much about the soft shell crab pasta in Plan b. However, since we have already consumed the hearty breakfast platter and the turkey ham omelette, we decided to order the soft shell crab salad to see what is the fuss about. Pasta sounded too heavy, so we didn't want that. Also, we wanted to have some greens to balance out the carbs. The soft shell crab salad took a while, but that was fine. The watercress leaves were definitely very fresh, and gave our palate a good cleansing. There were slices of Japanese cucumber, sliced lengthwise, and they were long! We had to curl them up before consuming. A couple of slices of green apples were hidden underneath all those leaves, which were very ripe and gave the salad a tart flavour. The star, soft shell crab was slightly below expectations. Although it is freshly fried, and very crunchy, somehow it doesn't taste very fresh. It had a fishy taste to it, which was slightly masked by the orange mayonnaise sauce and chilli flakes. Wifey enjoyed it very much, but for me, just so-so. Acceptable, but not great. Pricetag of RM20 didn't help either.

Wu Kok OK Jul 02, 2013   (Related Review)

The past couple of times when I dined in Pun Chun Noodle House, I didn't notice that they served wu kok, which is essentially a ball of deep-fried yam with cha siew filling in it. I saw it this time, and didn't waste time to order one to try. The yam with batter was very light and delectable, almost a melt-in-your-mouth sensation. The char siew filling was just so-so actually, as I felt the one served in Bidor was way better. Priced at RM1.60 a ball, it was a reasonable amount to pay.

Three Layer Tea OK Jul 02, 2013   (Related Review)

Wifey wanted to have teh ais, but we saw an advertisement on the wall about three layer tea, hence we decided to give it a try. The three layer tea came relatively quick, but to our horror, the bottom layer of brown sugar looks really thick. The tea is actually quite nice, however, the waiter put too much brown sugar, which made the drink diabetically sweet. Priced at RM2.50 a glass, it was a decent amount to pay. Note to self, kurang manis next time.

Fried Mee OK Jul 02, 2013   (Related Review)

A friend ordered a fried mee to share. It is basically fried like char koay teow, but using the yellow noodles instead. The fried mee came fairly quickly, and we all had a taste. It was fried full of wok hei, quite delicious. The only setback is that the ingredients seems fairly lacking. There were some prawns, cockles, beansprouts but not much eggs. Priced at RM4.50, it was merely OK.

Mixed Rice OK Jul 02, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam

Wifey and I were around the Subang Jaya area with a couple of friends after visiting a friend in the hospital. We decided to go to Chuan Kee Restaurant for a quick lunch before heading back home. I wanted to have rice, so I headed over to the mixed rice stall. There were a myriad of dishes to choose from. I took the sweet and sour pork, a stewed hard-boiled egg, some fried beansprouts and vegetables. The sweet and sour pork was a bit chewy, but the taste is quite alright. The stewed hard boiled egg was flavourful. The beansprouts and vegetables were just so-so. Priced at RM5, it was a decent amount to pay.
