Pickle & Fig is interestingly a suitable name to suit the concept of the café. Starting with their many interesting mixes of smoothies and juices, it offers a wide range of choices for an extended range of customers who loves healthy and natural ingredients in their food and beverages. Caffeine addicts and coffee lovers would be able to enjoy their choices of caffeine and non caffeine drinks along with a spectrum of creative menu of sandwiches.

It is calmly soothing and spacious in the café, and there are assorted furniture of various design to ensure maximum comfy for dinners. Whether you like it on stool, cusion, or bench, which ever gives the perfect comfy to chill and hang out. There are lots of space in the café and some fun for the creative ones to be explored.

Something to be given a deep thought off at the wall of “conscience”….What would you like to do before you die…

I did not try much of their drinks but I tried quite a bit of their sandwiches. Eunice had the Mocha at RM 9, where else Ben ordered the Latte which sells at RM 8

As many already know, I am no fan of coffee so tea and juices would be the next in line for beverages. We tried the Mango Mint, Avocado Dates and the Bananalicks which happens to be my favourite. The mango mint is a mixture of mango, mint leaf, banana and pineapple. As for the avocado dates, there is obviously the avocado and dates with some milk and yogurt. It was their best seller and I find it rather bland despite the ice cream yogurt in it. Dates are used to substitute honey for the sweetness in the usual avocado smoothie. That probably explains the lack of sweetness in this. As for the bananalicks, it was a genius combination of horlicks, banana, milk and yogurt. Do note that they don’t use natural yogurt but ice cream yogurt instead. I love this one and got carried away without a photo. My apology….

But, I did get the Goji Me which is a combination of strawberry, goji, apple, pineapple, and yogurt for RM 12 as well as the Blue Healer which includes the blueberry, blackberry, banana, and apple. The later is priced at RM 10 . Their smoothies were great and smoothly flavoured with creative and rich ingredients.

If smoothie is heavy in flavour, there is the Gryphon Artisan Tea with assorted flavours at RM 8, and served with a tea pot. I love my Marakesh Mint mainly due to the green tea in it.

With the mint and lemongrass, the ordinary green tea becomes extraordinary.

Tea and coffee is good after meal, but smoothies should ideally be taken in the morning.Something to look forward to is their sandwiches.

Lots of Meats and Sides!  OK Aug 13, 2013

The Solaris Dutamas was one of the best thing ever and I am really glad that they are so much more happening now compared to when I have to be at the showroom. I wish there were this much eateries then. I recall feeding on subway almost every other day. But then, it is a whole new world over there right now. Every few months of so, there is something new. The Chargrill Express is one of them.

Starting with the meats at the Hot bar, which sells mainly chicken, lamb and beef, their chicken comes in two flavour and if like the conventional grilling, then you would appreciate the charcoals.

There are two choices of chicken both of which are unique. The Seasoned Chicken is stuffed with rice seasoned with fresh herbs and spices. I am not sure if it is the chicken marinating the rice or the rice marinating the chicken. Either way, the rice will be stuffed inside the chicken and wrapped with paper for days before grilling it.

The chicken is not dry and I love the skin being slightly crispy and yet not much chicken fats underneath the skin. But then again, I did not explore the chicken tight. There are probably lots of chicken fats there though. The rice was soft and lightly fragrant with mild flavour.

Next is the Protuguese Style which is amazingly flavourful. There is an explosion of flavour mixes of herbs and spices with a gentle spicy that not too much so the original flavour of the chicken meat is still quite well preserved. The Protuguese style chicken is marinated in Chargrill’s protuguese marinade for at least 24 hours before grilling.

These two choices of chicken flavours sell at RM 17.90 for ½ (4 pieces) chicken packs and come with choices of 2 sides (hot/cold). Add RM 2 to for any can drink of your choice.

And speaking of those sides, the choices of sides are amazing. Reminds me of Kenny Rogers a little but the pasta salads are tastier than that of the Kenny Rogers.

Myself already being a fan of their healthy beverages has been eagerly waiting to redeem this new and latest mix of delicious and tasty mix ever since I received them. I finally got the chance to do so few days back and I must say that they have certainly come up with something extraordinarily creative.

When reading about the ingredients, I’m already imagining the flavour and I came up with soya bean mix with banana. When I tasted it, I’m even more ascertained with that description. Plus a little texture from the blended muesli oats.

Here is the fresh tofu mix with banana, milk, low fat vanilla ice cream, sorbet and mango for that natural sweetness on top of the blended muesli oats for the amazing fibre you’ll need to keep you healthy and feeling good. One thing I can’t quite accept would be the texture of those blended oats. Apparently the oats are not cooked so it is very subjective to different individual as to whether they can accept that. I cook mine for breakfast every morning.

Of course I must thank the Juice Works at Publika for being so friendly at service while I redeemed my Tofu Magic. I love the space at this outlet because they offer quite a few comfortable seats if you ever want to hang around for a bit while enjoying those healthy choices of juice.

Mum's Place OK Aug 09, 2013

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles | Halal

Mum’s place has all this crazy dishes that would almost drive you nuts when looking at their very homely and localized dishes. With the very extensive choices of poultries, vegetables and seafood, I would say the dishes are real suitable for communal eating but not individual or solo eating. The mix of choices is somewhat a whirled up combination of Chinese, Malay, and Nyonya dishes. Starting with the Protugese “Devil” Curry which is not entirely devil. In contrary, it was lovely tangy spicy selling at RM 16.80.

Followed by the Fried Cencaru Fish with Chili Padi Paste and Petai, this one doesn’t have very complicated flavours. But the petai would be distinguish and outstanding along with the piquant gravy paste.

Next is the Lemak Kuning Pedas Prawn which sells at RM 29. The flavour is great with lots of spicy sensation. The prawn lack freshness so that did not quite make this dish a star that night.

This Fried Otak-otak Cubes served with Thai Sauce is a good dish for appetizer. Selling at RM 16.80, the cubes are addictively tasty with the cube size just nice for bites.

To balance off the meal with some plants, the Daun Keledek with Lime Juice, dried Shrimp and chili padi is great at RM 13.90. Very mildly spicy despite the chili padi in it and instead the lime juice enhances the dried shrimp flavour and brings out the sweetness in this dish.

Also similar to that is the Four Angle Beans with Belacan or with garlic. Also selling at RM 13.90, this could be slightly pricier given how this dish is so commonly sold everywhere else at a lower price.

And as mentioned earlier, the whirled mix of dishes comprising of many choices which happened to also include some for those who do not fancy piquant flavours. There is the “Foo Yoong” Tan (Chinese-Style Omelete)(RM 13.60), and the Steamed Egg (RM 13.60). All of which have milder flavours in contrary to the intense flavours to the previous dishes.

It was a good place for family meals and is a great choice to experience all authentic local dishes.

A great place for occasions OK Aug 08, 2013

Silverspoon lands themselves at the perfect spot in Publika right at the open area. And with both the indoor space and the outdoor dining ambience, they manage to keep new customers curious and old ones returning for more. Celebrating Siew Wei’s birthday this year at the Silverspoon, we indulged in the Chicken Liver Pate served with toasted bread at RM12 and the Baked Escargot at RM 26. Those exquisite French Snails, baked in garlic herbs butter and served with toasted bread is least impressive than the first.

The Creamy Wild Mushroom Soup and Roasted Pumpkin Soup sells at RM 15 and RM 10 respectively. The trio of wild mushroom, puree, blended in vegetable stock as well as the oven roasted pumpkin puree, blended in vegetable stock.

TThe Caesar Salad (RM18) is charmingly served with crisp baby romaine and Caesar dressing, topped with tandoori chicken, parmesan cheese and the lovely quail egg.

Main course showcase the Italian Western culinary skills and we had the Millefeuille of Chicken al Parmagiana at RM 38. Generous crumbed chicken fillet, served with layer of turkey ham, aubergine and mozzarella cheese on the bed of broken potatoes. I thought it looked much prettier at invited reviews.

Followed by the Linguine Alfredo where there is the creamy pasta, cooked with turkey toast, grilled Portobello mushroom and poached egg topping for RM 26. Apart from the beautifully poached egg, the flavour of the creamy pasta was slightly bland.

Heavier course of Braised Lamb Shank sells at RM 45 and served with silky garlic potato mash and sautéed snow peas. Lamb was not soft and succulently moist while it also lacked artistic culinary skills.
