Fusion cafe never again Cry Aug 24, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Steaks / Chops | Noodles

The thing about these fusion restaurants is that whenever they start to gain some bit of popularity, they started localizing themselves. The ingredients for some of the western or fusion dishes is replaced with the similar kind in Malaysia and by doing so, really deteriorate the quality of the dish itself. Even when not looking at sophisticated dishes, simple things like the mash potatoes can be quite a mess for them as well. The problem at this and some of the many other fusion restaurants is that they try so hard to manage so many dishes, both western and asian. In order to offer the extension of varieties on their menu, they need to have all ingredients ready in case there is a order at the kitchen. But what happens when no one ordered what’s prepared, or when something is not the best seller at the restaurant. When it is not a common dish to order, the chances is high that the ingredients would have been kept for quite a while already. So the lesson I adapted from this is to go for the common dishes many people would order. That way, at least the food is still in good form of taste and shape. The mushroom soup tasted really ordinary and almost like they are serving what was cooked two days ago. The meal was so bad, I vow not to return to this outlet.

Not so fresh seafood ?  Cry Aug 19, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Bak Kut Teh

My usual foodie buddy told me that Foodeverywhere should venture to Equine Park. There is this area where there are many famous restaurants with many reviews online. One of which is those Bah Kut Teh shops. This place with lots of shops that sells almost the same thing according to reviews online. We decided to go with Fook Hin since it seems to be getting quite a bit of reputation, and I honestly have no idea yet of which one is the best.

Upon entering the restaurant, both Juwin and I instantly got hooked and attracted with the amount of clams in the tank. My craving for the Shiong Tong Lala instantaneously prevails and that was the first thing I ordered despite our ultimate agenda which is Bah Kut Teh.

For some reason, the clams lack natural sweetness of fresh seafood, and the entire dish was disappointedly bland. On the other hand, the Bah Kut Teh wasn’t that bad. This saves their reputation from the disappointment at the first dish.

The ingredients were generously luscious for 2 people and the distinct diversity between the usual and the ones here is that it is served with quite generous amount of meats and innards. Also, instead of simple iceberg lettuce leaves, the pot is served sprinkled with coriander.

Then followed by the Salted Mantis Prawn and I didn’t quite fancy it. For some reason, this restaurant has got one major problem keeping their seafood fresh. The clamp was already a disappointment with both the taste and the freshness of those clamps and these prawns seemed to have the same problem with the freshness. The cooking method was okay, I love the crispy deep fried prawn shell with all those flavours of slight spicy and salty. However, the freshness is off. Total boo at that.

This place is simple, and caters quite an amount of dinners too. Really neat and acceptable level of hygiene. I have no idea of what’s with the whole combination of seafood dishes and Bah Kut Teh. But they should probably focus on one.

But then again, it is probably the cultural palate of residents around this area. Reason being, almost all the restaurant s here is this combination.

When looking at these tanks, I can’t help but to wonder if these are those ingredients served on our table. Absolutely off the fresh level.

Girls (ok and boys too) please spend some time at their beautifully decorated store at the entrance of the café. With beautiful natural lightings coming in from the glass pane, the blings shines and sparkles when I was browsing through it. There are cloths, accessories, bags, baseball caps and more the fashion is very street hip given how they started with passion for bikes.

Grafamama’s Grilled Lamb Chop is cheap given the portion of the dish. Selling at RM 25, this lamb marinated with special homemade herbs in white sauce gravy served with mashed potatoes is supposedly great for sharing if it hadn’t been all charred like charcoal.

Let alone sharing, I don’t even wanna eat this. Well I do hope they’ll be more consistent with the food quality.

At least the Barbecue Chicken Wings managed to redeem themselves. Four pieces of full wings marinated with herbs and special homemade BBQ sauce, served with wither fries or onion rings for RM 15. This one is not good enough for ala carte unless you are a very small eater. The chicken was ok and nicely marinated. The fries on the other hand, should be fried only when there is a order and not to be left standing too long before serving to the customers.

Their sandwich is very homely and that’s great for those craving for mum’s cook. Using simple slices of white bread, and cucumber slices with fries served by the side, this grilled chicken sandwich is sufficient to satisfy hunger but not the palate.

Slow eaters should never order this because by the time you are done with half the sandwich, the other half would be soaking wet from the sauce already.

The oriental menu looks promising, but the Garlic noodle that we ordered tasted exactly like commercially produced instant noodle. With no extra ingredients except some ham slices in the noodle, I’ll do better ones at home.

Dessert cakes are not their forte, and they don’t make their own cakes. I tried the Red Velvet and it was horrible right from the presentation, to the texture, and the taste of it. First of all the colour was way too much and secondly, the cream wasn’t fresh and lastly, the texture was bad.

Hidden in a corner at the SS15 in Subang Jaya, the Grafa Café is decorated with lots of wood to create that warm and nature ambience. With the wide open area inside what seems to look like a tiny boutique from the store front, the café is always cheerful with natural sunlight making the otherwise really dull café really comfortable and warm. This café recently expanded into a designer restaurant and is one that is really different from the usual cafes or as the matter of fact, any other cafes in Subang.

Moving to the food, I do like the portion and the affordable prices. This applies to what you ordered. What I had didn’t quite do them justice. But I reckon myself paying one more visit to finalise my verdict then. Starting with the Chicken Kiev which in fact is similar to chicken chop, this one was quite some disappointment. Selling at RM 20, this chicken breast stuffed with garlic butter is served with mashed potatoes and coleslaw.

As a matter of fact, the only difference between this Ukrainian dish and the very common chicken chop everyone is familiar with is the sauce. Chicken chop is served with black pepper sauce where else the chicken kiev with white sauce and parmesan on top. Also, chicken breast is used instead of chicken tight. The mash potatoes are really brilliant, but expect a lot white pepper in it. When eaten with the sauce, which by the way does have a little black pepper tarnishing it when it’s really not supposed to.

The salad on my plate has already turned sourish while the stuffed garlic butter in the chicken has got quite a bit of black pepper in it too and that sort of empowers the garlic flavour in it.

Ice Mint Tea is such a great thirst quencher on a hot day.

Worst cafe ever Cry Aug 09, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Western variety | Café | Steaks / Chops | Noodles

Cafe One 6 five is probably one of the worst restaurants I have ever reviewed in a long time. Having entitled to RM 100 worth of food and beverages, I couldn’t bring myself to proceed with anymore orders after the third dish.

First off is the Salmon fish steak which sells at RM 19.80. To begin with, the Salmon is served in the most pathetic size I have ever seen on any serving plate. Secondly, the salmon is horrible and I was really worried that I would probably get food poisoning after the first bite. I didn’t bother finishing the rest cause I was really worry I’ll get food poisoning from the fish fillet.

Next is the Fish & chips selling at RM 10.80. The taste of the deep fried fish fillet was not too bad, but too bad the fillet slice was so thin and stingy.

Then I decided to try the oriental menu so I picked the chef recommendation, but was told that some ingredients were not available hence they were unable to make that for me. I went with the Sizzling claypot yee mee instead. Selling RM 7.80, I thought it was quite a fair price given the ambience and the location. However, it was not extraordinarily delicious or outstanding.

Even the cappuccino and tea was ordinary but yet overpriced for something so ordinary. The cappuccino tasted really bland even for someone who does not appreciate caffeinated drinks. With RM 4.20, I recommend using that amount of money for a can of soft drink instead.

The cafe one 6 five was nicely decorated with posters of their signature dishes. One must not be fooled by those pretty photos. But the seats and lightings are quite comfortable.

I wish them best of luck and I am real sorry but you can’t pay me to return to this place. The food is not bad in taste, but I appreciate the cook to maybe put in a little more effort in selecting fresher ingredients. It is almost like there is no passion what so ever in cooking. If indeed giving up, please have some courtesy to not try and poison the customers with lousy food.
