assam fish Smile Dec 30, 2013
Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

1919 in the state of Perak is the original restaurant that recently opened a branch in KL
but the food is equally as good
the assam fish took the longest to prepare and was the last to be served at my table
the assam gravy wasn't as sourish as i have experienced in other restaurants
it was not as spicy either, so for those who are expecting a kick out of this, don't be too dissapointed
the asam fish had a so much long beans that it looks like long beans are the garnish for this dish and the only thing that adds color to the dish

lotus paste pancake OK Sep 09, 2013   (Related Review)

this is a typical dessert at weddings
i'm must admit that it is becoming quite boring for me
the pancake was a lot, more than we could eat
it was still nice and warm when it was served
the lotus paste was not too much and the pastry was not too thick neither was the dish too oily even though it was deep fried
this is best eaten and then washed down with a cold dessert
waiting to try if a restaurant would introduce multi filling in these pancakes one day

seacoconut dessert OK Sep 09, 2013   (Related Review)

this is a very refreshing dessert
the sea coconut are all very tender and soft
sometimes you would find some hard ones but in this bowl, we're very lucky to have it all soft and tender
it is served cold so there are ice cubes in it but unfortunately after a while to ice melts and dilutes the taste of the desert
the presentation was quite poor because it was in a red plastic bowl

sitiawan has this very special dessert that only that little town has
i believe it is a traditional foo chow delicacy and usually foo chow food is an acquired taste
the glutinous rice is shaped like a dome on the plate.
the top part is full of preserved raisines
and further on top of it, ground nuts are sprinkled on it.
inside the rice also have several other ingredients

nestum butter prawns Smile Sep 09, 2013   (Related Review)

this is one typical dish you will find at wedding dinners
apparently it gives good meaning as well because prawns in chinese sound like laughter
the prawns were gigantic and i loved the crunchy nestum
the butter makes it taste so rich as well.
the prawns are not shelled and deep fried with nestum and butter.
before it's served it's garnished with some coriander
