Tea Break @ Edelweiss Cafe Smile Aug 06, 2012

we stumbled upon this quaint little cafe while we were exploring around Penang heritage trail. what intrigued me was the outlook of this cafe.
Ice Lemon Tea | RM 4

Ice Lemon Tea | RM 4

Chocolate Brownie | RM 12

Chocolate Brownie | RM 12

brownie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. the texture was alright. but my friends said it was a lil’ too sweet for their liking. i wish the brownie was warmer upon served.
Edelweiss Special | RM 19.50

Edelweiss Special | RM 19.50

banana and peaches poached in a rich butter sauce, topped with almond flakes, choco sprinkles, served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
it’s like a wet version of banana boat, fruits submerging in the sauce which was something new to us. everyone prefer this over the brownie. the only complain is, it got really messy after few spoons as the ice-cream melted.
Edelweiss Pork Sausage Wrap | RM 24

Edelweiss Pork Sausage Wrap | RM 24

pork sausage cheese, ketchup & mustard in a tortilla wrap, with salad as side.

in each wrap, there’s two halved juicy and firm sausages, one ordinary and one with mustard. i personally thought the mustard brought out the the smokiness of the sausages.

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Burgers / Sandwiches

i haven’t been to New York Pizza since ages. so it’s a nice revisiting when they invited a bunch of bloggers for a food review on their new item on the menu, which is the Charcoal Burger! you can either opt for a chicken or the beef patty. oh they do delivery too! call +604 6584640 to enquire and order!

i flipped through my old archives, and this was exactly how i described the interior of New York Pizza.

‘..kinda rustic, unpolished, simple and errr bold…’

i still felt the same…

this time there’s more posters on the wall.

the preparation desk. that chap clad in red and white at the back is the louban!

Chicken Charcoal Burger | RM 10 (set)
the set comes with a glass of soft drink and fries. chicken breast meat, a slice of cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato slices are sandwiched between two charcoal bun. the patty was flavourful and juicy. and the black buns tasted exactly like normal white buns but somewhat more fragrant and sweet (?). the charcoal buns are made in house!

posted this photo on facebook and my friends thought it looked scary wtf. black is the it colour what do they know.

this introductory promotion is valid till 31st of March! so be quick ya!

Beef Charcoal Burger | RM 10 (set)
comes with soft drink & fries

if you prefer red meat, there’s beef patty for you!
equally tender and juicy.

we were also served some of the other items on the menu!

Fried Platter | RM 19.60
assorted fried stuff with a mayo dip which has nothing to shout about.

Cheesy Garlic Bread | RM 8.00
thin and crispy garlic bread. i was so used to thick garlic bread so i didn’t aware that this was actually bread when it’s served =.=

BBQ Wings | RM 5.60 (S) RM 10.50 (R)

Baked Macaroni Carbonara | RM 12.80

creamy macaroni covered with cheese, ham and mushroom.

Beef Pepperoni | RM 21 (R)
chicken/beef pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, BBQ sauce on a thin crust.

BBQ Chicken | RM 21 (R)
chicken chunks, onion, pineapple, mozzarella cheese, BBQ sauce on a thin crust.

all the sauces are made from scratch as well. kudos to them for their efforts!

Tuna Delight | RM 23 (R)
tuna, green pepper, onion, pineapple, mayonnaise, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese on original crust.

yummy Nyonya Cuisine Smile Nov 30, 2013
Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

Nyonya Curry Chicken Rice | RM 8.80

Tom Yam Chicken Rice with Tom Yam Soup | RM 9.80

East Coast Nasi Dagang Curry Chicken | RM 9.30

every plate comes with your choice of meat (curry/tomyam/rendang, chicken/seafood), a serving of rice (white, lemak, dagang) shaped diagonally, a piece of keropok and slices of cucumber.

We have no complain with the food! they were overall good! Generous serving of meat! And the nasi dagang and curry was so rich with santan (read: sinful)! Will definitely come back again!

Japanese! Smile Nov 30, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Ramen/Udon/Soba

the last time i dined in Azuma was a year ago with the boyf, and i have never stepped in since then. mainly because its posh-looking facade that prevent me from going in, not without the companion of (working) adults. i am a poor student with limited pocket money, hallo? but LC told me that some of the dishes are actually quite reasonably-priced, so i thought of giving it a second chance hence, the birth of this post. it was really crowded on a Saturday night, so the staff asked us to leave our number and she would call us once seats are available. we did some shopping while waiting for the call. i think other restaurants should do this *cue Sakae Sushi* instead of letting your customer standing there waiting.

apparently they have revamped the whole restaurant. i remembered it was really cramped with dark lighting last time. now, cubicle are brightly-lit beside the entrance, perfect for couple, but not so muchy for privacy since everyone who walks in can practically see what you all are doing.

this is what you’ll see on your left once you step in. i fell in love with the ball lighting thingy. i wanna have that in my dining hall in my future home! but i hope it won’t emit too muchy heat.

and this, on the right. the sushi conveyor belt has extended to reach more tables. and chef working station has moved to the back with a golden classy looking backdrop.

took some sushi off the conveyor belt while waiting our mains. what’s your must-have sushi? salmon has always been my favourite!

Salmon Temaki | RM 3.80
salmon hand roll

i ordered this during my last visit, and i thought the salmon serving is really generous at only rm 3.80, slightly cheaper than Jusco’s. recommended it to LC, and she loves it too! one complain is that, the salmon slice was chewy and it’s hard to bite it off. so it got messy after the first bite and messier the following…

Gyuniku Chahan | RM 8
this beef fried rice is LC’s must-order whenever she dines in Azuma. i had a spoon and boy the rice was light and fluffy and fragrant! all grains were separated from each other plus generous slices of beef hidden underneath! and amazingly it’s fulfilling despite its small serving.

Soft Shell Crab Jyu | RM 13 (M)
my soft shell crab rice was equally great. i thought i would just get a halved crabbie manatau it’s a whole HUGE crispy one! i gave quarter to LC and still found it hard to finish :/

Chawan Mushi | RM 3.80
lastly, our long-awaited steamed egg custard to complete our lovely satisfying dinner! our bill came up to RM 20+ per head, no so muchy damaged to wallet so yay can plan for next visit jor, i saw many ordered the pizza thingy! hmmm gotta gather more of us so that we can order more stuff to mum!

quirky cafe in Muar Smile Oct 27, 2013
Categories : Western variety | Café | Sweets/Snack

i went to Muar again when i was back home last weekend! my bff with balls (bffwb) had some errands to run in Muar and i shamelessly tagged myself along he invited me to go along!

our initial plan was to have brunch at this POPChuco cafe when we arrived but to our dismay it only opens at time 1600 so we tried our luck at this nice cafe along the same road which bffwb visited few weeks back. it’s closed on Monday. bloody hell. must be bffwb no shower that morning! so we resorted to Old Town White Coffee wtf. we did go back to this lovely cafe in the evening!

we were so glad that we came!

POPChuco Art Gallery Cafe is like a hidden gem among stones wtf. we almost missed it as i didn’t expect it to be a two-storey wooden house. when Waze told us that we have reached the destination we both were like WTF? where’s it? we had to park the car by road side and search for it on foot, fearing that we might miss it again. =.=

how could we even miss this huge singboard? i had no freaking idea.

there’s three dining areas altogether, alfresco, indoor at ground floor and upstairs. it’s an old wooden house where you have to climb the stairs outside of the house in order to gain access to the first floor. the upper level only opens after time 2000, we left earlier than that, so didn’t manage to have a look.

POPChuco Art Gallery Cafe is a creation by 7 youngsters. each of them experts in different fields (law, food technology, psychology, photography etc) but they share one interest, i.e. art. and they welcome art lovers to work with them, whether you’re an artist/photographer/composer.

pachuco means any young hispanic/Mexican-American males perceived (through similarity of garb, haircuts, etc.) to be members of a street gang (source). and that is what POPChuco is, nonchalant, rebellious, whatever with some pop elements.

there’s surprises at EVERY nook and cranny of the building, the wall, the lamp, the divider, the window, the fan, the eberythingyoucanthinkof are all skillfully quirkily decorated, handmade using recycled thingamajigs with aplenty creative juice, effort and love.

apparently, they are not that good at food art. food was unfortunately disappointing, not as interesting as their art creation. only ONE main dish every day, good thing is they rotate the main. they have wider choices for side dishes and beverages though.

and oh you are welcomed to bring your own food (which is a rare scene in restaurants/cafe) for birthday celebration/gathering/anyoccasion/evennooccasion, but you have to order the beverages on their menu.

we ordered a rice set meal and one side dish and a dessert for sharing.

i ordered Dragon Fruit Juice for myself while bffwb had Pop Why which comes together with the set meal, i remembered mine was really refreshing but i couldn’t recall the taste of Pop Why. but i do remember the POP drinks series have cute Chinese name like 随便,都可以, 一样,不懂叻,and 有什么. that’s 有什么 on the table, which literally means, got what?

Sweet & Sour Rice | RM 10.90
an ordinary 咕噜肉饭 with sides of fried egg with runny yolk and veggie.

Fried Mushroom | RM 4.80
battered abalone mushroom deep fried to crispy! nice snack to munch on on a lazy (late) noon!
