Bak Kut Teh and more... Smile Jun 09, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Bak Kut Teh

I never knew what the name of the "restaurant" by the street was until I googled, and it is none other that the famous "Ah Wang Bak Kut Teh".

Their bak kut teh is just nice, not too overpowering herbal taste, and the soup is tasty too. Definitely nice no matter which part of the pork you choose, whether pork ribs, fillet or "3-layer-meat". Each portion of meat is RM10, the normal market price. It comes with the fillers such as "fu zuk" and tauhu slices too.

Their "yaw mak" vege is nice too, served with crunchy fried garlic and just the right amount of sauce.

Sawi's portion was tad bit small (both were medium). Wine chicken was normal, not fantastic.

A special mention is the famed steamed fish head, priced at RM26/RM28 depending on size. All the food came quickly, including the fish, so it was slightly uncooked inside. When we mentioned it to the server he brought us another candle to keep the fire going, but unfortunately it did not serve its purpose. Nontheless, the fish was average.

A noisy place that is always, always full. At peak hours, its not uncommon to see people standing behind some tables, hoping to book the places of the people they see (or hope) are leaving.

Recommended Dish(es):  Bak Kut Teh!

Spending per head: Approximately RM20

Fusion Kitchen Smile Jun 09, 2012

Puchong Jaya is a place full of restaurants, and Grill King is one of the better ones, in my opinion.

Its Hainanese Western fusion Kitchen is a good mash up of sorts, and I found the idea fresh.

As you can see, the ambiance is good, lighting is warm, with evergreens playing in the background.

The menu is nothing short of good choices, and they have your asian dishes apart from a variety of western food.

The hainanese sauce pork chop was good, with pork fillet and generous amount of hainanese creamy sauce. They happily oblidged to my request of extra sauce, heated up and served in a little dish. Price is good too, about RM12.90.

I liked the lamb chop the most. At RM16.90, the portion was big, with delicious fried rice that contained pieces of ham and Chinese sausage, coupled with greens.

Beverages there were ok , soup was average. Overall, a nice place to go for a family dinner, a date even, with good food and ambiance.

Japanese buffet  Smile Jun 09, 2012

In Taman Desa, there is this place with Japanese buffet. It also offers ala carte, but if you're in for a feast, its not too bad a place.

Pricing is around 40++ for lunch and add another 10 to the number for dinner buffet.

The list of food to choose from. I find the list ok (you will be full with just a few mains anyway). However, there are a few things they restrict you to, like 2 scoops of ice cream each, and a limited number of freshly cut sashimis and handrolls, which probably makes other places such as Maiu better.

Ambiance is not too bad, apart from the fact that you have Indonesians serving you in a Japanese place smile

The staple such as various miso soups and chawanmushi. Hearty enough smile

Garlic fried rice and various sushi's. The quality is not too bad, but with the amount of Japanese rice they put at the bottom you get filled up pretty fast smile

My conclusion? Took me a while to find the green sign board, it just blended so well with its surrounding. It's not too bad a buffet in itself, but having tried the likes of Maiu and others, this place will only be my second(or 3rd) choice smile

Spending per head: Approximately RM40

Hartz Chicken Buffet @ Pyramid Cry Jun 09, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Buffet | Steaks / Chops | Seafood

Hartz Chicken Buffet recently renovated and shifted to a new site (facing sunway lagoon). Ambiance did look better than the previous location, and if I may say so , the spread at Hartz did not look too bad.

But first sights do lie. After choosing from their limited amount of food,we tucked in hungrily. But to our horror, the spread at 5.30pm was really bad, to put it mildly. Both the soup choices were sour, all their salad with mayonaise was sour(I can't imagine how many days they left the food there!) and the Asian dishes were just...bad and unappetising.

The only edible (and perhaps nice) was the Chicken, especially the country fried ones. But service was slow, and they did not replenish it with new stock eventhough the chicken was halfway gone. There were limited amount of chicken drumstick and thigh, and the other parts were just...dry. sad

They gave me a voucher saying that if I come back, I can get 40% of my next meal. My verdict? Not a chance. I'm just relieved I did not get a tummy ache.

Italian food close to home Smile Jun 09, 2012

Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta

Veneeze Restaurant looked warm and cozy from the outside, with a friendly atmosphere inside.

Asparagus soup. (Soup of the day). It was thick, good, and the portion was good as well. No complaints. Now why do other shops have to water down their soup??

Garlic fried mushrooms. Recommended. I spoke to the manager about it being a tad bit oily, but he reassured me saying that the mushrooms were fried with olive oil (which I guess is more healthy than normal oil). RM4 the last time I checked.

Took a pizza as well, but since I was so hungry I tucked it, and by the time I remembered it was gone! I took the recommended pizza with lots of stuffing's on top.
Their pizzas in general are not too bad, and most are priced under RM20 for a standard 12 inch, which is the normal rate I guess.

Would I go again? Probably smile Try going during lunchtime, they have some offers like set lunches that make it all the more worth it smile
