The food here was pretty good if compare to many other halal muslim food but definitely can have more improvement! I specifically love the chicken dumpling and mushroom ramen. The dumpling filling is flavorful and texture is good. Mushroom ramen is something new to me! The smooth gravy is really delicious!!!!!

The sweet and sour fish are not bad too. One thing is the portion is rather small and for a family of four i think they need at least two servings.

Love the setting on the restaurant with jade chair and table, a very comfortable seating!

Together Vegetarian Restaurant  Smile May 02, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Vegetarian

A brisk from the busy road and situated along the row of shop lots, many would assume that this place is just another rather ordinary restaurant due to its humble setting which one would wonder why the simplicity as the reason is pretty simple, being together. Many would appreciate the calm environment for a decent dinner moment. However the unique element that makes this restaurant lays in its dishes and ingredients.
Crispy Cuttle Fish

Crispy Cuttle Fish

Given the uniqueness of the item during the game, our participant were able to guess a partial of the food fed. Dubbed as Crispy Cuttle Fish, the method of making this dish is relatively simple (Or so we were told). The outer layer is fried while retaining the soft content within the battered cuttle fish (vegetarian). According to the restaurateur, Ms. Susan, the dish is the brainchild of the chef, Master Liang which has been in the industry for well over 20 years and that makes him a veteran in the culinary field.
Shark Fin’s Soup with Crab meat

Shark Fin’s Soup with Crab meat

The dining begins with the entrée of the soup, Shark Fin Soup with crab meat. Initial glance would probably deceive many, however its strong aroma of the Chinese herbs will bring the senses back. The key ingredient would be its mushroom and the fin alike substitute which makes as real as it gets. In the likeness towards the real thing, the strong Chinese herbs had masked all taste which makes a thick concentrated soup with many ingredients, rather than the intended shark fin soup.
Fried Beancurd with Fresh Mushroom

Fried Beancurd with Fresh Mushroom

While the soup had kept the tummy warm and kicking up the appetite, we were drawn to a platter of golden bars which pique much interest towards it. Claiming the simple, Fried Beancurd with fresh mushroom, the dish wasn’t simple as the fried beancurd is combination of mixed soy beans and egg, battered together which then steamed to give it solid mass. The steamed beancurd is then tossed into the frying pan, right after dousing It with flour. With the effort, comes the result of crispy outer crust and soft in the inside which is just perfect. The vegetable and mushroom with the thick sauce is then placed on top of the fried beancurd.
Butter Abalone Mushroom

Butter Abalone Mushroom

While the dishes are mushrooming, we are served with another dish named Butter Abalone Mushroom. The restaurant had actually practice not using vegetarian byproduct which usually comprised of many preservatives, flour and chemical binders with additives to enhance the flavours. Hence most of its ingredients is gotten fresh and mainly would be its mushroom. On the first bite on the butter mushroom, gives soft but yet crispy texture along with its butter aroma that entices the mouth for more. The curry leaves is fried along to give a little spice which makes the taste unique as it closely resembles butter salted egg battered. It would definitely make a great finger food for those nights of late night snacking.
Red Enzyme with Mushroom

Red Enzyme with Mushroom

With that much of chomping down, it was time to bring down a notch. Coming in hot and in red is the Red Enzyme with Mushroom and yes, enzyme. This molten hot pot is filled with ingredients to keep the body warm as the ginger infused red enzyme gives it a slight pungent taste which is similar to the drunken rice wine chicken. Every sip tempts another sip but brought to a halt on the strong ginger after taste. It comes with variants ingredients that comprise of abalone mushroom, the soy fuchuk makes up for the chicken and it would definite give a mouth full.
Curry Mutton

Curry Mutton

Serving next up is the Curry Mutton and the curry aroma is just fantastic. They cooked the curry along with all the key ingredients that makes a curry. Lemongrass, curry leafs, and spices which makes up the taste similar to the curry mutton with the exception of the mutton. The fuchuk is used to substitute the mutton. The dish is also served with bread that is usually served along with crabs. The spicyness was just right and acceptable.
Assam Fish

Assam Fish

Well we weren’t off the hook with spicy dishes as came next was the Assam Fish. The generous amount of assam had gave its namesake justice as the taste is sourish with a slight hint of sweetness. The fish is soy based.
Spinach in Herbal Sauce

Spinach in Herbal Sauce

The last item on the menu, Spinach in Herbal Sauce was served. The spinach is picked fresh from the market which is said to be free of sediments (Normally we would encounter small amount of sediments). The serving with the herbal sauce is ingenious and unique. The herbal sauce is comprised of Chinese herbs, goji berry and dong guai. The herbal sauce is close equivalent to the normal Chinese herbal soup which makes every sip tempts another.

With that, we had concluded the dining experience. Special thanks to OpenRice and Together Restaurant for the dining experience. It is recommended as they have wide selection of dishes and also does catering for functions including wedding dinners. Their ingenious method and ingredients usage that distant them apart of some places that uses much of the vegetarian byproduct. Till the next dine out.

That evening it was raining and everywhere is jam. Me, Mokky & Jane reach pretty late to Chang Rai Thai Food organized by Open Rice.

When we arrived food has already served on the table. So, I missed out the photo opportunity for the whole tom yam pot. So this is it, Thai Seafood Tom Yam Soup on my bowl.

Thai Seafood Tom Yam Soup

The Tom Yam is very concentrated and the seafood flavour has infused into the broth. Fresh Seafood is the key ingredient that made this Tom Yam so delicious.

Oh well, Green Curry Chicken doesn’t look appealing so does the taste! It’s just plain and plain.

Butter Prawn comes in a super thick yellowish gravy. It’s slightly sweet in taste and prawn is very fresh. The curry leaf does not really improve the taste of the gravy!! However I still prefer the butter prawns with egg floss.

Butter Prawn

Prawn Cake is a common dish in Thai Food, Otak-Otak cake (Mixture of Fish Meat & Spices) was something new to me. Both taste alright crunchy and all but no WOW factor. I prefer the one at Jimmy & Nom Thai Restaurant.

Prawn Cake & Otak-Otak Cake

The beautifully garnished Steam Fish with Lemon served on our table. Sadly the lemon flavour does not infused onto the fish meat. Good thing is the fish is very fresh so it’s original meat does taste good.

Steam Fish with Lemon

I was a bit sceptical to try out this Barbeque Pork Neck because I don’t really like neck or organs… However, they say it was good and taste super yummy. So I surrender and give it a try!! Wow it was good…..The smoky aroma of the thin layer of the pork meat is so good!

Barbeque Pork Neck

Fish Maw with Seafood Soup was the one I really love that night! I drank two bowl of it. The starchy soup is so smooth and all the egg, crabstick, prawn, scallop and fish just so nice to chew!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant!

Fish Maw with Seafood Soup

The last main dish of the night was Braised Crab Glass Noodle. The glass noodle is tab bit too oily and salty, it was a let down when the crab taste does infused onto the glass noodle. The crab was quite satisfying though. Huge and meaty!!

Meaty Crabs

The Coconut Jelly is a chewy stuff!! They also incorporated the jackfruit slices in between the jelly. Yummy..

Coconut Jelly

Well there is hit and misses. Overall, it’s a great place for family gatherings.

Kechara Oasis Fine Dining OK Feb 24, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum | Vegetarian

Kechara Oasis has few other branch but this branch in Viva Mall is very spacious. I love the set up here with very calm and peace environment.

Kechara Oasis Grand Entrance.

The interior is very grand and I supposed this is how Fine Dining Vegetarian restaurant look like. The first feeling entering the restaurant gives a little chill as the air conditioner was really cold and filled with Buddhist Goddess Statues. This is my personal feel, to other it may not affect much as I don’t quite like the mantra or Buddhist song in temple. It’s just me! We were being escorted to the VIP dining room. Entering this room feel much better. Some of Openricer has arrived and were chatting. The room on the other hand was filled with very grand furniture such as Suede Leather chair, huge dining table and beautiful lighting.

Huge Dining table at Kechara Oasis.

Seriously I do not know where to begin with as the eating experience here wasn’t bad nor good. That night we were serve with only 2 main meal which is steamboat and fried rice.

To begin with, I must admit the idea of boiling the soup inside a Winter Melon was really creative.

The soup taste almost close to Bah Kut Teh soup but minus the meat sweetness. The soup flavour is good but there is no elements of winter melon in the soup. The winter melon serve more like a decoration instead of adding flavour into the soup. Creativity alone does not impress me much if the taste was not there!

Winter Melon Pot filled with ingredients.

My other concern are this Winter Melon soup alone cost a bomb!! RM 69.90 for this small pot that can only be filled with 3 plates of ingredient before it is full. While the other ingredient are by ala carte and the portion are quite small considering it’s meatless I think for a family of 4 you may need at least 10 plates to fill your tummy.

The ingredient including soy product like Tofu and Beancurd Skin, Cheesy Ball and Vegetarian Fish Ball, Vegetables, Mushroom as well as Vegetarian Seafood Product. The ingredient wasn’t really memorable to me perhaps I’m more meat eater!! LOL.

Winter Melon Steamboat with ala-carte ingredients.

A plate of Greenish Fried Rice arrived on the table. It got me thinking for a while!! What is this dish made off??? It’s called Xiang Chun Fried Rice, fried with Tuna Leaves which gives a really good herb aroma!!

Xiang Chun Fried Rice.

Each grain of rice is well separated and filled with the strong aroma of the Tuna Leave as well as the strong wok hei!! Apart from that, the tiny cutlet of long bean gives this really crunchy texture!!! Uniquely delicious!! This is one good plate of fried rice.

A spoonful of Xiang Chun Fried Rice.

Overall, I would think it will be better to try out their other fried dishes instead of the steamboat. I briefly run through Google and read a few good review on their fried dishes. Special Thanks to Open Rice for the invitation.

Food : 4/10 for steamboat 7/10 for fried rice
Price : 4/10 (It’s rather pricy for me maybe I just doesn’t know how to appreciate Vegetarian Culinary)
Facility : 5/10 (Located inside Viva Mall, not much amenities unless you want to look for furniture)
Ambient Environment : 4/10 (Too cold)
Service : 7/10

Full review can be viewed here: http://www.cindysplanet.com/2013/01/open-rice-makan-venture-tasty-pot.html

I was invited by Open Rice for makan venture with other members at Tasty Pot Sunway Mentari.

As far as I remember the last I been to tasty pot they do not have so many soup flavour and food choices. I was suprised to see a big pot where you can select 3 soup flavour, perfect for someone who is greedy for more choices like me!!

They have like 8 soup for you to choose from!! The Soya Bean Soup totally won my heart over other soup base. Don’t got it wrong, its not time for dessert okay!! This soup actually is not sweet instead it is in salty version! Something that I never thought is the bean curd or best known as “ Tau Foo Fa” is included in the pot! The soya aroma is perfect!! I love all bean curd related food!!! While I’m typing now my saliva is dropping already slurrrppppp….

“Tau Foo Fah” along with my clams..

Another soup that worth mentioning is the Thai Style Tom Yam Soup!! The intense Tom Yum flavour in the soup good to go down along with all the sweet seafood! I just can’t stop drinking the Tom Yam soup while chatting with open ricer!

I heard the Curry Soya Bean Soup is delicious too. I have yet to try that.

The HK Satin Porridge is a disappointment!! No rice aroma and i prefer it to be more sticky as in more porridge rather than more soup as in the soup will be smooth and with rice bites!

The Chicken Soup and Herbal Chicken Soup are all tasteless!! Perhaps the soya bean soup is too good!! LOL Other soup available are Chong Qing Spicy Soup & Pumpkin Porridge.

Ok let the soup boil a while, I gonna talk about their Chicken Wing! In the past, everyone go to Yuan Buffet for chicken wing and now almost every steambat buffet will serve chicken wing and Tasy Pot does too. They have two type the grilled and the barbequed type! Barbequed type was not crispy and rather bland! I like the grill type though the honey glazing is a bit overdose but I love the aroma!

Since me and Senri were late, we did not get to try much of their BBQ corner. They stop producing after approx 9.30 pm. I seriously think they should continue to serve the food at the Barbeque corner or else what BUFFET are for right?

As for other ingredient to dump into our soup, there are all quite common. Similar to other steamboat buffet in Klang Valley! They serve more than 180 pork-free ingredients consist of fish balls, seafoods, meats and vegetables.

Scroll down for all the food we pick from the spread!!

Clams and mussels, big and fresh!

Quail Eggs, Fish and more clams!!

Oh they have Shimeiji mushroom & King Oyster mushroom too..

Green Peas are rare in steamboat!! If they could do the peeling it would taste better!

Meat Slice only serve after 9.30 pm where most open ricer has stop steamboating. So late comer have advantage too eh? Me and Senri enjoy dipping the meat in our Tom Yam soup.

Yam and Sweet Corn Ice Cream, smooth and taste good.

I enjoy steamboating at Tasty Pot and thanks to Open Rice for inviting me to this yummy makan venture. The makan venture are also meant to group people from all over the place to get to know each other. So I did not sit with my BF but with some newly met friends. Seriously I enjoy meeting people and having a great steamboat time with them. As for Tasty Pot I will certainly will revisit for their Soya Curry Soup!!

Sorry not much picture as my hand and mouth is occupied with eating and chatting! Stay tune for more updates from me!
