Reasonable price, decent dishes Smile Jun 09, 2016

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | BBQ

Whenever I’m watching Korean variety shows such as Running Man or Roommate, their Korean cuisines always make me drooling, including tofu stew, bulgogi, bimbibap, kimchi and etc. Talking about Korean Cuisine, the flourishing of Korean restaurants no doubt makes us spoil for choice.

San Nan Duel restaurant, hidden among the shop lots in Publika, serve you authentic Korean cuisine where you can get your craving fixed. Besides serving you an array of Korean cuisines, they have free flow side dishes, which is also a plus point.

We went for this squid and beef bulgogi set. This set is meant for sharing and we really didn’t expect the portion to be so big. Both squid and bulgogi are well-marinated and grilled to perfection, not too dry and not too raw, while you are chewing them you can still feel that the juices keep oozing out. It has strong flavor and mild spiciness, super piquant.

You can choose to wrap them with raw lettuce, where the fresh and crunchy lettuce gives you a different sensation, it helps you to balance out the oily level of squid and bulgogi at the same time. Or you can choose to eat with a bowl of steamed white rice, I’m sure that you will clear your rice real quick.

Their Tofu seafood jjigae stole everyone’s heart at the dining table. The stew soup comes with tofu, seafood such as clams, sea crab, mussel, prawns and squids, top with enoki mushroom, spring onion and an onsen egg. It’s served with a bowl of white steamed rice.
The soup has rich texture and it gives you an umami taste.

The fiery red color might scare you but fret not; the jjigae is not as spicy as you thought, even a person like me who don’t like spicy food, I can easily sipping down a few spoonful of the soup, it goes super well with white steamed rice too! We almost finished “drinking” the whole bowl in the end.

Their spring onion pan cake tastes average. I expected it to be crispy outside and moist inside, but it turned out too moist and too much starch. You might want to skip this as they serve pan cake as one of their side dishes as well, which you can refill unlimitedly.
We had squid and bulgogi set, spring onion pan cake, tofu seafood jjigae and kimchi fried rice, it costs us Rm30 per pax, we find it pretty reasonable as the taste is decent and the portion is big enough to make you stuffed.

Cakes and Macaroons. They serve both sweet and savory dessert, you name it, and they have it.

They are good in coffee making as well! A cuppa of hot cappuccino with beautiful coffee art, alongside with a small piece of biscuit to go with your coffee. Super aromatic and it’s indeed something perfect for a chilling afternoon.

Blue berries crumble tart. Crunchy crust with blue berries pastes stuffed in between, surprisingly it’s served warm! The blue berries are sweet and it matches well with the tart, it will get you hooked on your first bite.

Plat Kitchen OK May 24, 2016

Even though the café is not located at the main road, Plat Kitchen still draws many café-hoppers to drop by and have a sip of coffee.

Upon entering, you will be attracted by their unique interiors. Navy blue is their main decoration color and almost every spot over there is photo-worthy.They serve a wide range of food in their menu, ranging from pasta, desserts, breakfast set, sandwiches and many more! Besides typical coffee, they offer an array of milkshake, chocolate drinks and tea as well.

As an ultimate fan of matcha, I went for their sizzling matcha brownie. A piece of matcha brownie is served on a sizzling hot plate, topped with a scoop of ice cream and biscuit. The staff then poured one small cup of matcha sauce over the dessert, and you can enjoy the “sizzling” sound while letting your brownie to slowly absorb the sauce.

The matcha brownie was a bit overrated. The brownie turned out to be a bit dry, it would be better if it has moisture-er texture. Sweetness was just right, the sauce can be more matcha-ish to create a heavier taste of matcha.

Besides, I ordered their matcha latte as well. The latte was super rich and have strong flavour of matcha, it tasted really silky. The price is reasonable for a rich latte like this.

You will be able to enjoy serenity here during weekdays, where a few tables are occupied by the patrons, chatting over their daily lifes and random thoughts. Indeed an ideal place for you to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Spending per head: Approximately RM18(宵夜)

We always refer Kajang as Satay town where the signature dishes of this small town. Besides satay, there's actually many hidden delicacies which is only well-known among the locals. I used to study at Kajang and today I would like to share about one of my favourite restaurants there.

Tien Pin restaurant, located at Jalan Bukit near NEC college, offer you a wide range of food made from fish, such as fish ball, fish paste and fish noodles. Moreover, they serve main dishes such as mee pok and desserts such as cold tau fu fa, rice dumplings and tong shui.

I love love love their fried chee cheong fan and fish noodles, you can hardly find this kind of combination at other places. The chee cheong fan which we usually have them for breakfast, is fried together with fish noodles, beansprouts and generous amount of pork lard.

The fish noodles are really chewy and bouncy, pair with chee cheong fan it offers you an unique combination, the pork lard makes the dish extra flavourful and aromatic.

Their signature mee pok, Tien Pin Mee Pok. Serve along with pork lard, minced pork and a bowl of their soup with fish pastes. Their fish pastes worth a try because it tastes so fresh.

Wash it down the main dishes with cold tau fu fa serves with brown sugar. Super refreshing!

Delectable Pork Chop Noodle Smile Jun 22, 2016

Heng Long Taiwan Mee, located at Gajah Berang near Catholic High School, serves the best pork chop noodle and beef noodle in town.

This coffee shop has more than 40 years of history, they draws local patrons as well as tourists everyday to try out their noodles. Even the taukeh boss is 84 years old but he still be at the shop everyday to manage the business and guide his workers.

The shop is not that spacious and it consists of limited tables, be sure to come earlier because you might have to wait for empty tables during lunch hour, even on weekdays.

You can get a bowl of small size pork chop noodle at RM5, comes with deep fried pork chop with spring onions sprinkle on top. Their noodle is one of the best noodles I've ever tasted, it looks like flat pan mee, but way more silkier than pan mee, you can just slurp your noodle and eat, the texture is so good and sprincy.

I like to soak the fried pork chops into the noodle sauce for them to absorb the taste of the sauce, though it becomes not that crispy but it tastes super juicy and succulent, the meat is tender and the juice keep oozing out in your mouth.

Their home-recipe chili sauce is also their highlight, it's so aromatic with a mild spiciness, it spices up your meal as well as your appetize.

Besides pork chop noodle, they serve spciy beef noodle and pork trotter noodle as well. You can also opt for their side dishes such as fried pork chop, salted vegetables and pork trotter.
