TSUBOHACHI | PUBLIKA MALAYSIA  Smile Dec 26, 2015

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Seafood | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Locating in Publika, i had bump into this place a few times until one day i paid the effort in walking into the restaurant to find out what serves in the menu.

What attracted me it was their interior at first, that is why i have got a few nice impression about this place. Everything is wood and very Japanese cultural fit out.

Then, is the food. Authentic Izakaya style which goes perfect with boost & drinks.

First & only one outlet so far in Malaysia.Let me introduces about Tsubohachi to you.

What is Izakaya?

Tsubohachi

Original in Hokkaido Japan and has got more than 300 outlet in just Japan itself for the past 42 years.

It is famous for its tranditional Izakaya style ever since it is being established in year 1973 in Hokkaido, Japan.

Why is it famous?

Because it is part of the culture in Japan. Izakaya is a type of casual Japanese drinking place which serves food to accompany with drinks after long day of working.

So if you are familiar of Publika, it is actually facing opposite of the housing area.

And also very easy to be spotted onto if you are driving on the road.

I was literally caught by the impression of the interior.

It look as if i was walking into an authentic Japan restaurant and the design just simply took my sight away.

They have got Japan iconic decors on the wall and also they display the sake bottle in aligned on the shelving. Also, the menu in Japanese text font.

If you dont understand Japanese text, it's alright.

They have got a friendly menu on every of their serving table, neatly placed in order.Their red menu is their recommended/special menu.

Because Izakaya is a casual drinking place, thus Sake is part of their menu.

Very affordable in pricing too with the quantity per bottle served.Of course if you do not wish to order any sake, they have got other alcoholic, mocktail or cocktail drinks in the menu. Asahi SubZero is a must try.

First in Malaysia, and it chills your throat down to your tummy.

Awesome. They also have got highball drink series, It's a combination of whisky & soda.

This one here is Ginger Highball.

It was a favorite by all.

Lets look into their other menu.

The Grilled | Yakitori

Their meat is very tender,

the chef itself was imported from Japan, and the grilled timing was perfect for tasting."

All their grilled comes in two type of flavour. With Sauce or with Salt.

Even though alot of us would say chicken skin is very oily.

But it's crunchy here in Tsubohachi.

They special select the skin & made some process to filter out the 'fatness'

And in their special menu, they have got a few recommended dishes that the manager would suggest for the first timer to try.

Salad Salad.

The salad is cooked and served in chilled.

Very refreshing in taste and it serves good as an appetizer.

And they have got other appetizer to start off besides than salad

Chicken Softbon was something unexpected nice in bite.

And their karaage chicken is very tender & juicy.

Also, i'm a fan of mentaiko.

The special of this two dishes is that they are both mashed potato but tasted like mochi texture.

Minched chicken with hotspring egg was awesome.

Specially after it was dressed with the teppanyaki sauce and the pot went sizzling hot.

Mackerel is a must in a japanese restaurant.

Because Japanese dont always eat salmon, they tends to mackerel and tuna in alot of cooking method.

Thus grilled atka mackerel is a must in the menu, Izakaya style.

And salmons are cooked in broth and grilled with veg.

But of course if you would like to have raw sashimi salmon, they have it in their menu too.

As part of their special menu,

they have got this cute flowing somen noodle set.

It was introduced to us that in Japan, the kids are trained to hold chopstick through the natural flowing of cold mountain water through the bamboo shoots by picking up their food fast & accurately. But not every place of japan has got mountain water thus they created this play tray where water will keep flowing in circulation and you can throw in anything into it and only pick it up after a few seconds later. So everything has to be FAST. hahaha!

And something hot, non spicy.

Pork Belly with Cabbage served in mille feuille style.

They insert the pork into each sandwich layering in the pot.

And the soup are natural sweet with the pork broth dipped.

And some of us felt that the pork was very organic sweet and they prefered something heavier in taste, thus they dipped their pork into the light soy sauce served on the table.

And they also have got Pot Rice series where the rice is cooked on the spot for at least 15minutes.

And also there is omelette & dumpling as side dish.

Very light in taste thus its the sauce which makes most of the flavoring.

Of course they are desserts in the menu.

Thin green tea crepe skin with red bean paste & vanilla icecream.

And dancing rice cake hidding the shy ice cream beneath with the red bean

A very nice combination.

Yuzu was very refreshing.

The citron tasted like natural sweetness and feels very chilling in mouth.

And i had Yuzu wine after the sorbet.

Suitable for girls who love drinking sweet wine. Recommended.

So the sake was very worthy as it is more than 1litre itself per bottle. And you can order one and share with your friends while dining there the whole night!

So we was happy with the dining experience and i still get awed by their interior on every sigh i look at.Filled with japanese art and atmosphere of culture. So they have got this promotion where you can DRINK ALL YOU CAN withint 1.5hours.

price is per pax but you will get whatever they listed there. And addition, i realize alot of japanese comes in group dining in Tsubohachi.

And their table is all filled with food & also alot of sake/beer & all sorts of drinks.

Mostly respectable, is that they tends to drink very well.

They will go sober but not totally drunk!TSUBOHACHI MALAYSIA

Categories : Korean | Restaurant | BBQ

It has been a trend that people like us love to dine in numerous korean restaurant or we tend to stick to one comfortable restaurant in which we love. But it got me curious how well do we even know the type or the differences of Korean Authentic Delicacies from different province?

I went to Korea twice and only been to Seoul & Jeju.
One of the difference in their culture is definitely their food.

Just like us Malaysia, we are all malaysians but different state serving different type of laksa & nasi.

It was a lucky to have met this korean manager & his lovely wife almost more than 6 months ago in a different korean restaurant. And being as a friend, he texted me to tell me about this new Korean BBQ Restaurant serving a rather authentic Jeju Style of Pork & Dishes.

And the best of all, it's PORK BUFFET, in JEJU STYLE, for RM29.99+ per pax.

Unlimited refill, the only limit is how much you can consume?
Donsadon at Solaris SohoKLTake the escalator up from Haagen Daz at SohoKL.

Directly you will see Donsadon on your right.

If you know barfly sohoKL, it's right at the opposite of the back unit.

It has simple facade, simple layout & simple designBecause during BBQ, we tend to mess the table up

thus their interior set up is real straight forward & simple.

Also, you can keep your bag safe inside their black chair with the cushion top cover open & closed for sitting.

No magic tricks inside no worries ;)

I was with a few bloggers along checking out with this very new BBQ Restaurant because good things needed to be shared & experience for the first time together. hahaha!

When we sit down and ordered for the Pork Buffet, immediately our table is set up with alot of different type of nice smelling Korean side dish & sauces on the table.

You can see the Pork meat is quite huge in portion on the table.

They actually 60% cooked the meat in the kitchen then only BBQ it on the pit at your table.

So that you wont need to have the long wait of hunger for the meat to get ready cook.

Also, it tends to lock the juice of the meat too.

So you can see they serve their sides very neatly according to it's category.

Left is their imported jeju style sauces or marinated dishes and Right is the typical korean sides.

But if you are a frequent korean diners, you would like to try their kimchi.

It's not sour nor sweet, the taste is simply as closest as you can find in Korea home base taste.

So they will help you to cook the meat and cut them up for you when it's ready to serve.

They even grill the kimchi in the pit so that when you wrapped it with your meat you will taste the hot kimchi spices & its juices in your mouth.

No. The chilli is not spicy at all, the korean demo on the spot eating it RAW while dipping it with the sauces on the table. O.O!

So their setting up seems very simple but the gem is actually hidden all within their sauces.

Why i am saying this?

This is because they have different set of marinated/fermented dishes.

Marinated Octopus, Fish Savory Paste, Salty Marinate & Marinate Raw Fresh Sotong.

Everything about on the left sides of the sauces on the table are all imported from Jeju.

You can keep refilling them as long as you finishes them.

One thing i would like to highlight is that their meat are not thin in slices.

They actually serve it in mouthful chunk.

Very big chunk.

Seriously.

So the inhouse korean manager thought us how to enjoy the meat with their sauces.

They would advice us to just scoop a teaspoon size of sauces and topped it on the meat.

Then enjoy it through any veg wrapping, especially on the sesame leaf.

He was explaining that alot of people feel very salty or too much flavoring in their mouth due to the wrong consumption amount of the sauces on the meat.

A teaspoon or less would be suggested so that we get to enjoy the taste of the juicy meat.

And it was recommended to eat it with their marinated sesame leaf.

Refreshing in mouth.

Of course we need to eat it in a korean manner.

Soju was a must on the table

Soju is best served in a chilled glass.

When you bottoms it up into your mouth, you will find the satisfaction in your tummy after all the meat you consumed

And we toast it for a better year to come & all the best of achievement we gained in year 2015.

*note: soju does not comes with the buffet, it's on their ala cart menu.

If you dont like soju, they actually serve you unlimited chilled water.

So we kinda enjoy our meal together.

You will see blogger betty & eddy busy taking photo of their food. Hahhaah!

And blogger adeline was camera shy with her mouth busy chewing. tongue And i was sitting next to Blogger Kakalina

We was trying to finish the meat and while busy taking all the selfie & wefie photos,

Our pit is being refilled.

And we refilled at least 4 times that night.

So with RM29.99 you will get unlimited refill of BBQ Pork Belly/Shoulder

Eventhough you only have two pax they still will serve you the same big amount of full table as shown in my blog post.

What is great is that i dont have to fly all the way to Jeju to get my craving fixed.

I still could not forget the fresh octopus sauce i eating 5years ago in Jeju and it was rather like a gem when i get to eat it now in Solaris SohoKL.What is the difference?
Aint all the korean restaurant taste the same with chilli paste?

I would say mother nature does it best through the process of fermenting all the korean sauces and it was a trick on human nature itself on how to take care of the process.

I was talking to the inhouse manager about their kimchi style of fermenting why it is different than others as it is really tasted like homebase style where it is not salty nor sweet but rather unforgettable and delicious. Then the manager explained to me part of their process is to observe on the weather and also fermenting it with cold & heat routine daily to achieve that taste.

I really have to give credit to some thoughts i gathered & understand.

If a restaurant can go all the hassle of method in fermenting a kimchi, it is not hard to see that they only want to serve people what's closest to their home taste and also the local best recipe to us.

If they can make all the hassle to import their sauces from Jeju to Malaysia. That means they simply focus on their quality of their food especially some are rather served in RAW so freshness is very very important.
So it was quite a worthy of my money to try out on this new Korean BBQ, Jeju Style. I will also definately return this celebrating my year end with my friends.

Why not give them a try since it's gonna cost you less than RM35 in total bill for per pax?

The Champ Kitchen | Kepong Smile Nov 14, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

This is a Non Halal Post,

This is going to totally flood your cravings in both your tounge & tummy

Let me write you this entry about this thick savory pork shop in Kepong.

The Champ Kitchen 猪多宝

It started off years before we were born and tradition being passed down from the ancestor.

The Champ Kitchen is somehow a family business which keeps the originality style of cooking & method into their cooking. Instead of specializing just only in pork itself.

It also specialize in overall of the body part of the pig itself. From every part of the pig, they are being used & cooked in it's best method for a dish.

Left is the facade of the restaurant, locating in the heart of Kepong where all the good food gathers in that area.
Right is where they actually cooked their braised pork knuckle. A huge pot where they slow cook for days just to serve you ONE satisfying dish.

The effort that they put into this pot is quite mesmerizing.

They have to keep stirring it between hours to hours to ensure the pork is well cooked or to check see if there is something lacking. For days it will be cooked. And guarantee it is worthy for your money.

Because the Pork Knuckle is being tied up with strings to lock up it's freshness and juice in it's originality. Then it was marinated in it's special thick sauce, and the end result was very awesome.

They will cut & slice up the meat for you. And you can totally smell the thick flavoring so yummy in the air.

And the meat is very very tender. The pork literally melted once it entered into your mouth.

And they have got Fried Bun for you to dip the pork sauce so that you can enjoy every bit of your dish.

So what if you dont have a big crowd and yet you want to try the infamous pork?
No worries, They have got ala carte meal & it's very affordable less than RM10 depending what you order.

They even have got some fusion japanese curry pork rice in their menu

And to those who really love Pork Lard

So what if you are not craving for any rice but noodles?

The Champ Kitchen has thought it all for you.

They have got some noodle series in the menu too!

If non of the above noodle are in your craving,

you can choose between from cha soba, zaru soba, inaniwa udon and they will be served in their clear hot broth soup.

Not to mention,

There are some sides that you can top up.

But mostly comes along with the ala cart menu in the rice series.

Something Salty on your side dish

Something Salty & Spicy

Besides than Pork, They also serve Slow Braised Beef Brisket with RICE or without.

The beef is very tender too!

Besides all the main dishes shown above. They also have got glittering century egg ginger.

I call it glittering because it looks like watering in my eyes & my saliva is already dropping.

They also serve the century egg with cold tofu.

Perfect combination!

They also serve Grilled Lamb Belly with Szechuan Pepper.

They grilled it only they pour the pepper sauce over it

And the fish is good too!

The Pork Neck Skewer is tender and i couldnt get enough of it.

Well, this does not look quite appetizing but then it's really delicious.

With salted fish in it, the dish is very thick in flavoring and it somewhat not too salty but yet very very delicious. It goes better with rice too.

And they have got minched meat omelette

Every bite you will taste the minched meat, so tender.

Of course, so much of the meaty food above,

The Champ Kitchen also serve some selective of soup in their menu.

Best of all, they have got 'SOUP OF THE DAY'.
This is to guarantee that you get to drink the freshness out from your soup.

So you have got to check out what's out of the menu or special of the day all posted on their wall of fame. They dont just cover meaty dishes & recipe.

They also have got some awesome ice cream.

Something simple but yet very very satisfying.

To Me: I think The Champ Kitchen is somewhat being fusion in their menu but at least they are not serving dishes in weird mixing but somewhat simple in base but heavy in sauce.

The Porks are very tender & very enjoying. And for a simple bowl of Pork Knuckle Rice just cost from RM8 and above up to your selection. You can even consult the waiter/waitress if you dont read chinese. Even though the shop seems busy but they will put up their best service for you as per request. Not bad for a place to crave on with loads of meat with tradition recipe.
