Sweet Treats. OK Oct 27, 2015

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

Ever since I've had a not too pleased experience with the sub-par food at Delicious, I told myself that I wouldn't be back there anymore. However a friend wanted to have some dessert and especially those that she could get at Delicious. So I followed along but refrained from ordering anything even if they did catch my eye off the menu because I've been fooled before and was not falling for that again.

The service at Delicious at Midvalley's branch is significantly better than the one at Bangsar Village. However with that being said, we paid a visit during tea time so there weren't too many people dining there so it wasn't too hectic which gave the wait-staff ease in serving the patrons.

We ordered the Caramel Milkshake to share. I didn't really like this because ever since I've been cutting down on sugar, any sweet drink just tastes like a mouthful of sugar to me which is off putting. Which is exactly how this drink tasted and it felt like there was a whole lot more milk/cream than anything else.

Though my friend who has a really big sweet tooth enjoyed it.

For cakes we ordered this Pineapple Carrot Cake with Walnuts. I have never really been a fan of carrot cakes but this was alright, just a little bit on the dry side. It's more of the kind of dry where it's been sitting in the fridge for a while than anything else. We didn't finish this.

We also ordered the Berry Pavlova because it's one of my favourite desserts. I like the berries that come with it, super tangy to counteract the super sweet meringue. But then I wasn't too happy with what I got at Delicious because it was just mountains of whipped cream and super scarce amount of strawberries.

I ate almost half and then gave up because it was just too much cream.

Dome's Cafe.  OK Oct 21, 2015

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches | Coffee | Business Dining | Group/Family dining

For lunch, the colleagues wanted something western for lunch so we made our way to Dome's cafe to grab some. I remember visiting this establishment when I was younger cause it was a family favourite, especially the pies and dessert. So I was definitely hoping to get the same kind of food that I did many years ago.

As always the service at Dome's is pretty good. The wait-staff greets you at the entrance and leads you to an empty table with a smile. No sour-faces to be had anywhere, plus they were all very attentive despite the place being quite crowded due to the lunch hour.

We ordered our food and I was slightly disappointed by what we got. Quality wise.

A friend got the Egg Hollandaise with ham. It sounded promising and the paoched eggs looked good when it arrived, especially napped with the creamy hollandaise sauce. Though one egg was way beyond overcooked which was off-putting especially when it's supposed to have a super runny egg yolk. After that, my friend barely finished this dish because the sauce was apparently bland so she was sorely disappointed with this as a whole.

Another colleague got the Creamy Seafood Pasta. At first I was thinking of ordering this too, but since they got it I decided against it so we can try more things. Though when the dish arrived I was secretly glad that I hadn't ordered this or else it'll be such a struggle for me to finish.

The seafood was scarce and tasted a little bit like the frozen kind. The sauce was WAY TOO CREAMY which made this dish so cloying that taking more than two bites felt like torture. Plus it was lacking in any sort of flavour other than those that came from the heavy cream that was used to cook the pasta in.

But that's just me I guess, cause the colleague thinks that it was still alright and managed to finish it.

As always, my go-to order is the Chicken Pie. This just brings back so many nostalgic memories of my mom feeding me this while I continued reading my book. So imagine my excitement when the dish arrived and it looked exactly the way it did in my memory.

The puff pastry was really good, crisp and buttery with every bite especially good when dunked in the stew inside. However we come to the not so pleasant part which was the filling in the pot. Not only were the chicken bits and other ingredients rather less than what I am expecting, especially considering how much I am paying for this dish. But the sauce was so watery that it borderlined soup rather than actual chicken stew.

Disappointing because I was really hoping that this will be as good as I remembered it to be. Knowing that I can make something much better at home without the price tag, I was even more disappointed.

Perhaps standards have lessened a lot over the years. But I think I would just stick to their sweet drinks like the hot chocolate rather than ordering their meals unless it improves.

On the road. OK Oct 08, 2015

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

On the way back from a mini roadtrip to Ipoh, a friend brought me to this restaurant for dinner before going straight home. Apparently he's tried this place before and found the food there to be quite good so was determined to bring us all there to try. So we can validate his point.

It was a weeknight when we reached the place and a little after dinner time, but still the place was quite packed. As always an early sign on whether the restaurant serves good food or not is by the crowd that they have. Already from this I can tell that I was in for a good meal. Though slightly disappointed by the rather sour-puss looking staffs who were not too pleased with serving us whenever we called them over.

We got the Claypot Braised Pork Belly with Salted Fish. I have to say that not many places can cook this dish well and I've had my fair share of this, considering that this is a family favourite. But Triple Round cooks this very well as the meat is nice and tender, the sauce is very well flavoured without being overly salty.

Then we also got the Steamed Grouper in Soybean Paste. This was only so-so because the sauce was one-dimensional and very little despite us telling them that we wanted more. However I do enjoy the freshness of the fish as the meat was juicy and tender.

Because we were all in the mood for some Lala, we order their steamed Lala in wine sauce. I did not find this particularly good because I had better ones before. It wasn't that this was bad or anything like that, but really nothing much to shout about as the lala was on the smaller and most of the shell were empty.

Seeing as they had this that night, we also ordered their Sang Cheong with dried shrimp and chillies. Again, this was pretty good but  nothing to shout about. The cheong was less crunchy and chewy than I  would have preferred and lacked quite some flavour. But my friends enjoyed it very much, even the one that never tried sang cheong before.

We must always have something green for a balanced diet, so we ordered sweet potato leaves stir-fried with garlic. This was also so-so only though I liked that the vegetable was not over-cooked which would make it mushy.

Actually the food served at Triple Round is pretty good. If I were somehow to be around that area or driving back from Ipoh again, then I'd stop by for a meal. But I most definitely would not drive all the way there from KL town just to eat there.

No seafood dinner  OK Oct 07, 2015

My mom's friend brought us to this place for dinner because she's tried the food there before and found it pretty good. Also it's not super expensive - at least the dishes we ordered were not but I am not too sure about thir seafood so I can't vouch for that.

The first dish that we order was the steamed Siakap in Ginger sauce. At first I was quite excited when this arrived because the whole fish was literally submerged in ginger sauce, which I quite liked. Though when I tasted it, I was quite disappointed cause there was quite a scarce amount of fish and the sauce was bland. Aside from the ginger taste, there was not much other flavour to it.

Since this place had 'sang cheong' which is pig's intestines, we ordered it to be stir-fried with dried shrimp. This was my favourite dish of the nice because the flavour was good, spicy from the chillies that they add in it and also just the right amount of saltiness. Also the cheong was not soft which is a sign that it isn't fresh but it's nice & chewy. I liked this a lot.

We also got their claypot kangkong which apparently is one of their popular orders. I don't know why but almost every restaurant is determined to make this vegetable in a claypot, maybe it enhances the flavour or something but to me it is just a gimmick. Maybe.

This turned out to be merely so so only. Even though I love kangkung, this was only ohkay.

Prawns & Crab for lunch OK Oct 07, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Seafood | Noodles

A colleague have been giving rather amazing reviews to this establishment and decided to bring us there for lunch one day. Despite it being a work day and late in the afternoon, there were still quite a number of tables filled. Mosftly people in working clothes and maybe one or two families.

Apparently a pretty popular order is their tao fu stir fried with mushrooms. This I really liked because the sauce tasted really good while the bean curd was nice and soft, with a nice juicy crunch from the mushrooms. Though I wish this came in a larger portion considering that there was quite a few of us at the table.

Something that came highly highly recommended is the Big Prawns Sang Har Noodles. At first I was a little skeptical because the seafood that we're often served is always small and not super fresh. But at Green View, the prawns were really huge and super succulent where the meat peels right off the shell, a clear sign that it is indeed fresh.

The noodles were nicely crisp at first and perfectly al dente when it has soaked up all the yummy sauce. I had second helpings of this.

We also ordered the Kam Heong Crabs which was also pretty big in size. This also tasted pretty good and flavourful without being overly spicy. The crab meat was nice and juicy also, especially at the pincers. Though I had plenty of the leg portion as the meat there is more tender and flavourful.

As always no meal is properly complete without some vegetables. They only have a selected amount of choices when it comes to greens so we picked the Cheng Loong Choy stir-fried with garlic. It was alright but nothing too much to shout about and like always, slightly on the oily side.

The bill came up to quite high because of the two seafood dishes. But if there's a need to try some good seafood and have the money to splurge, give this place a try. :3
